Colorado Avalanche @ Buffalo Sabres – 1PM ET

Tony Battalio

It has been a fantastic start of the season for the Colorado Avalanche, and they will be looking to keep the momentum rolling here on Sunday afternoon against the Buffalo Sabres on the road in Buffalo. Colorado is picked up a total of 12 out of a possible 14 points as they have picked up six victories and their first seven games of the season and they will be looking to keep them a minimum rolling here in this game as they look for their seventh victory of the year already. Colorado is coming off of their first loss of the season as they were blanked by Pittsburgh on the road and they will be looking to get back into the winners column with a victory here on Sunday afternoon in the third game of this road trip.

The Buffalo Sabres will be looking to pick up a solid victory at home over a tough Colorado team here on Sunday afternoon as they look to get the momentum rolling early on in the season. It has been a below average start of the season for the Buffalo Sabres as they have lost five out of their first eight games of the season, and they will be looking to get back on track with a victory here on Sunday afternoon over the Colorado Avalanche. They currently sit in last place in their division, and they need to string some victories together quickly before they once again end up towards the bottom of the standings at the end of the season. Unfortunately for Buffalo I don’t see that happening. I look for Colorado to grab the victory here on Sunday afternoon.

SportsTips’ NHL Pick:

Colorado Avalanche (-155)

Minnesota Wild @ New Jersey Devils – 5PM ET

Tony Battalio

Minnesota will be looking to pick up a solid victory on the road in New Jersey here on Sunday evening as they look to get the momentum rolling early on in the season. It has been a less than impressive start to the season for them, but they have managed to take a few of their losses into overtime, which has helped them earn some crucial points here and there throughout the early part of the year. They will be looking to pick up their fourth victory of the season here on Sunday night on the road in New Jersey and they will have to be a lot better on the defensive end of the ice if they want to get the job done against a high scoring New Jersey Devils team. They are currently on a two game losing streak, and they have lost four out of their last five games on the season so a victory here in this one would help them get out of their funk.

The New Jersey Devils will be looking to further add to Minnesota’s misery with a victory here at home on Saturday night. It hasn’t been the best start of the season for New Jersey either and they could really use a momentum boosting victory here in this one, as they look to gain some footing throughout the early part of the season. They come into this game with four victories to their name and they do have a winning record at the moment, but they would like to be performing a lot better than they currently are and they could do so with a victory here on Sunday night at home. They have won three out of their last four games on the season and they come into this game on a one game winning streak. I expect them to pick up their second consecutive game here in this one on Saturday night.

SportsTips’ NHL Pick:

NJ Devils (-175)

San Jose Sharks @ Washington Capitals – 5PM ET

Tony Battalio

The San Jose Sharks have been absolutely awful this season, and they will continue to likely be awful throughout the remainder of the regular season unless something changes rather quickly. They have yet to pick up a single victory on the year and they will be looking to grab their first win of the season on the road against Washington here on Sunday night. They have been awful on both ends of the ice and it seems like there is no end sight or light at the end of the tunnel for San Jose this season. They seem to be in full rebuild mode at the moment, and they will be looking to at least gather some victories along the way throughout the regular season. San Jose’s losses have not been close either and they will be looking to turn their fortunes around with a victory here in this one on Sunday night.

It has been a less than impressive start to the season for the Washington Capitals, but they have an opportunity to build some momentum with a victory over the San Jose Sharks here on Sunday at home. San Jose has been a punching bag for the other teams on their schedule throughout the first couple of weeks of the regular season, and Washington will be looking to take advantage of that and take some frustration out on the San Jose Sharks as well. Washington comes into this game with three victories to their name on the season, and they will be looking to even up their record with a victory here on Sunday. That is exactly what I expect as I have the Washington Capitals grabbing the win here in this one at home against San Jose.

SportsTips’ NHL Pick:

Washington Capitals -1.5 (+110)

Calgary Flames @ Edmonton Oilers – 7PM ET

Tony Battalio

It has been a relatively awful start of the season for the Calgary Flames, and they will be looking to turn their fortunes around with a victory here on Sunday night on the road in Edmonton. This is a very heated rivalry game, and this game could get very interesting and ugly if things go astray for either one of these teams. Calgary has only managed to pick up a pair of victories through their first eight games of the season and that is something that will have to change rather quickly if they want to keep themselves firmly established in the middle of the Stanley Cup playoff race early on in the season. Calgary will also be looking to snap their four game losing streak in this game on Sunday night.

The Edmonton Oilers are having an awful start of the season as well, and they are hurting without superstar Connor McDavid in the lineup every night. Some nights it does go unnoticed that the majority of the time he generates a lot of their offensive firepower, and without him in the lineup, they have looked lifeless at times, and uninspired. Edmonton comes into this game with only one victory in their first seven games of the season, and they are in the same situation as Calgary as they will need to string some victories together to keep themselves alive early on in the year to avoid falling too far behind in the rat race as the season comes and goes. When both teams look this bad, it’s hard to pick a winner and that is why I’m going with the safe route of the over on the total goals as both of these teams are giving up plenty of goals each and every night.
