Free NHL Picks Today for Sunday, October 17th, 2021
Sun 17th October 2021

We are so excited that the NHL is back, and today there is just one game that gets our full attention. The Dallas Stars take on the Ottawa Senators, who will both be playing their third game of the season.

What will today’s game bring? Which team will be able to from their loss last time out? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain, we are in for a great game! So gear up, sit back, relax and watch. And if you like to have a bet, then you have certainly come to the right place.

Look below to find our free NHL picks, as we preview the only game on today’s schedule.

Dallas Stars @ Ottawa Senators – 5.00PM EDT

The Dallas Stars are on the road again, as they travel to Ottawa for their third game of the season, and take on the Senators. The Stars are playing back to back road games, as they took on the Bruins in Boston on Saturday and lost 1-3. Last time out, the Senators played the Maple Leafs, for the second time in a row, and also lost 1-3.

Denis Kirilov

Both teams lost their second games yesterday. However, they both faced contenders for the title in road games which was definitely a hard task. Watson, White, Bishop and Gaborik are out indefinitely for the Senators and they will be highly missed in the upcoming games when the cycle tightens and the rest between matches become more and more critical. However, so far it seems manageable for the team from Ottawa as they have found themselves victorious in their first matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Dallas Stars also have some troubles with injuries as the veterans Ben Bishop and Blake Comeau will also miss this fixture. John Klingberg and Jason Robertson are also sidelined. The Stars are without a doubt the better team overall, but such games can be really unpredictable. Therefore, I will choose a more unorthodox pick for this game and this is going to be a tie after the 1st Period at (+176). I believe that the teams will come into the match with something on their mind and both of them will be cautious not to make any mistakes in the opening period.

Denis’ NHL Pick: 1st Period Result – Tie (+176)

Tony Battalio

Both teams came into Friday night unbeaten at 1-0-0. However they both faced tough opponents on the road and lost. Dallas lost 3-1 against the Boston Bruins. Scoring for the Stars was Glendening midway through the 2nd period, it was assisted by Kero. Meanwhile Ottawa were beaten 3-1 by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hitting the back of the net for them was Norris, assisted by Batherson and Ennius.

Now Dallas and Ottawa will look to get a bounce back win against each other. With both teams coming off of road games on the end of a back to back this one is certainly hard to predict. Since the game is in Canada and the Senators will have home ice advantage, I have to go with them in this game.

Tony’s NHL Pick: Ottawa Senators (+124)

Michael Lantz

Dallas impressed with a “grind it out” win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. That pulsating victory was followed by a 3-1 loss against a rested Boston Bruins team on Saturday night (this was the Bruins season debut). Meanwhile, the Senators have had two games—both against the Toronto Maple Leafs. They won Thursday’s game 3-2, only to follow with a 3-1 loss on Saturday. Regardless, they’ve looked incredibly competitive in two games against one of the NHL’s premier offenses.

Veteran Tyler Ennis had been making big plays so far in his debut season in Canada’s capital, racking up three points in these first two games. On the other side of the rink, the Dallas Stars have generated most of their goals from guys on bottom-six lines/ blue liners. They’ll need vets like Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn to start picking it up if they have any hope of returning to their 2020 Stanley Cup form. In this one I think the franchise formerly known as the North Stars, will have a successful trip up north.

Michael’s NHL Pick: Dallas Stars (-146)
