 Ottawa Senators @ Winnipeg Jets – 3:00 PM ET

Ottawa loss to Winnipeg on Thursday, 5-1. That is their fourth straight loss, dropping the team to 2-12-1, last in the North Division. The team has scored 32 goals while giving up 63, a -31 goal differential, worst in the NHL.

They are 1-7-0 on the road this season. Both Marcus Hogberg and Matt Murray each played time in the net on Thursday, and neither performed particularly well. Combined these two have done an inadequate job, with Murray (3.69, .882) being the better of the two. Josh Norris and Brady Tkachuk are tied for the team lead in points with eight.


Connor Hellebuyck stopped 41 of 42 shots to earn the victory. Winnipeg is now 8-4-1, allowing 36 goals while scoring 46. Hellebuyck has started 10 of the team’s 13 games and has been excellent, posting a 2.39 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

Mark Scheifele had a goal and an assist against Ottawa, giving him a team-leading 17 points. Nikolaj scored his team-leading ninth goals of the season against the Senators.

Vegas Golden Knights @ San Jose Sharks – 4:00 PM ET

Vegas saw their three-game winning streak come to an end when they lost to Anaheim on Thursday, 1-0. The Golden Knights got outstanding goaltending out of Marc-Andre Fleury, who stopped 27 of 28 shots.

Vegas is now 8-2-1, still tops in the West Division. They have scored 37 goals while allowing 27. Fleury (1.68, .929) is expected to be between the pipes on Saturday. Mark Stone is a team leader in points with 15. Two other players have at least 10 points.


San Jose lost to Los Angeles on Thursday, 6-2. That moved the Sharks to 5-6-1. They have scored 34 goals while giving up 46, the most in the division. Their -12 goal differential is the worst in the division as well.

San Jose has yet to win two games in a row this season. Martin Jones will be between the pipes for San Jose. He has a 4.09 GAA and a .865 save percentage and eight starts. The Sharks are led in scoring by Logan Couture with 11 points. He is the only Sharks player with at least 10 points this season.

Boston Bruins @ New York Islanders – 7:00 PM ET

The Boston Bruins will play the New York Rangers on Friday night but this preview was written prior to the end of that contest. Boston is red-hot. They defeated the Rangers on Wednesday in overtime, 3-2, making them 8-0-1 in their last nine games.

They have won their last four. Boston is 9-1-2 overall, tops in the East Division. They have scored 39 goals while allowing 26, giving them a +13 goal differential, best in the division. The combination of Jaroslav Halak (1.72, .923) and Tuukka Rask (2.31, .906) has been fantastic. 


This is quickly shaping into the best goaltending tandem in the league. Rask will likely be in net for this contest. The Bruins have two players who are tied for the team lead in scoring. Brad Marchand (8 G, 8 A) and Patrice Bergeron (6 G, 10 A) each have 16 points.

New York lost to Pittsburgh on Thursday in a shootout, 4-3. That dropped the Islanders to 5-4-3, tied for fourth in the East Division. They have scored 28 goals while allowing 31. Semyon Valarmov allowed three goals on 35 shots to the Penguins.

He now has a 1.98 GAA and a .924 save percentage, recording three shutouts and nine starts the season. Goal scoring has been a major issue for the Islanders. The team leader in points is Matthew Barzal with 13. He is tied for the team-leading goals with five and leads the team in assists with eight.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Florida Panthers – 7:00 PM ET

With Steven Stamkos sitting out, the Tampa Bay Lightning lost to the Florida Panthers on Thursday, 5-2. That snapped the team’s winning streak at six straight games. The Lightning are 9-2-1, first in the Central Division.

They have scored 44 goals while allowing 25, a +19 goal differential, which is the best in the league. Andrei Vasilevskiy took the loss, allowing four goals on 28 shots to the Panthers. He now has a 2.00 GAA and a .929 save percentage. With Stamkos sitting out, Brayden Point now leads the team in points with 16.


With the victory, Florida moved to 8-1-2, one point behind Tampa Bay in the standings. They have scored 37 goals while allowing 30. Alex Wennberg led Florida to the victory with a goal and an assist.

Sergei Bobrovsky earned a victory on Thursday, stopping 19 of 21 shots. He now has a 2.90 GAA and a .899 save percentage. Bobrovsky is expected to be between the pipes on Saturday. The team leader and points is Jonathan Huberdeau with 15. Carter Verhaeghe leads the team in goals with seven.

Montréal Canadiens @ Toronto Maple Leafs – 7:00 PM ET

Montréal was shut out by Edmonton on Thursday, 3-0. That was their second straight loss, dropping the Canadiens to 8-4-2. They are now tied with Edmonton for second place in the North Division. Montréal has scored 50 goals while allowing 38, a +12 goal differential.

Jake Allen performed well against Edmonton, but was simply outdueled by Mike Smith. It is expected that Carey Price will be between the pipes on Saturday.


Price has started eight games and has a 2.84 GAA and a .896 save percentage. Montréal was led in scoring by Jeff Petry with 14 points. Five different Montréal players have at least 11 points.

Toronto defeated Montréal on Wednesday, 4-2. That was the Maple Leafs fourth straight victory, and they are 8-0-1 in their last nine games. Toronto is now 11-2-1, tops in the North Division.

They have scored 52 goals while allowing 36, giving them a +16 goal differential, second best in the NHL. Frederik Andersen was excellent in the victory over the Canadiens, stopping 33 of 35 shots.

He will be between the pipes on Saturday as well and has a 2.59 GAA and a .908 save percentage in 12 games. Toronto also has five players with at least 11 points, led by Mitchell Marner with 21. Auston Matthews has 11 goals.

New Jersey Devils @ Philadelphia Flyers – Postponed

St. Louis Blues @ Arizona Coyotes – 8:00 PM ET 

St. Louis will take on Arizona on Friday night, but this preview was written prior to that contest. Both teams have faced a series of postponements. St. Louis had both of their games canceled against Minnesota this week, so they will take on Arizona for the sixth straight time on Saturday night.

St. Louis is 7-4-2 overall, second in the West Division. They have scored 43 goals while allowing 43. Jordan Binnington has seen the majority of the work, starting 10 of the teams 13 games. He has a 2.64 GAA and a .913 save percentage.


With these teams playing each other on Saturday and Monday as well, Binnington will likely be between the pipes on Friday and Monday. Four players have at least 11 points led by David Perron with 13.

Arizona has been playing extremely well against St. Louis, winning three of the four games. The Coyotes are 6-5-1, fourth in the division. They have scored 34 goals while giving up 33. The Coyotes are 3-2-1 at home this season.

Arizona has been getting solid goaltending out of Darcy Kuemper, who has a 2.50 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Antti Raanta (3.00, .922) recently joined the team and will likely go on Saturday. The Coyotes have two players who lead the team in scoring. Christian Dvorak (7 G, 6 A) and Conor Garland (5 G, 8 A) each have 13 points.

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Chicago Blackhawks – 8:00 PM ET

Columbus defeated Chicago on Thursday, 6-5. That is the second straight victory for the Blue Jackets and they have won three of their last four games. Columbus is now 7-5-3, scoring 45 goals while allowing 50. Cam Atkinson led the Blue Jackets with a goal and three assists and Jack Roslovic scored two goals.

Elvis Merzlikins is expected to be in net for Columbus on Saturday. He has a 2.76 GAA and a .913 save percentage in five starts. Oliver Bjorkstrand leads the team in points with 12. He is tied with five other players for the team lead in goals with four.


Chicago got a goal and two assists from both Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat in the loss. The Blackhawks are now 6-5-4, tied for fourth in the division. They have scored 44 goals while allowing 47. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Blackhawks.

Kevin Lankinen will get the start in the rematch. He was led up by the Blue Jackets, allowing six goals on 43 shots. Despite this, Lankinen has been solid, recording a 2.55 GAA and a .924 save percentage in 10 starts. Kane leads the team in points with 20 and is tied with DeBrincat for the team lead in goals with seven.

Detroit Red Wings @ Nashville Predators  – 8:00 PM ET

Nashville defeated Detroit on Thursday, 3-2. The Red Wings are now 3-10-2, scoring 29 goals while allowing 49, a -20 goal differential, worst in the division. Detroit has lost four of their five games this month.

Thomas Greiss will be on the net on Saturday. He stopped 20 of 23 shots on Thursday and now has a 2.91 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 11 starts. Goal scoring has been a major issue for the Red Wings, who are led in scoring by Dylan Larkin with just nine points. The team leader in goals is Tyler Bertuzzi with five. Of the 29 goals scored by the team, 17 of come from four players.


Pekka Rinne stopped 24 of 26 shots in the victory over Detroit. That moved Nashville to 6-8-0. They have scored 34 goals while allowing 48. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and they are now 2-4-0 this month.

Juuse Saros is expected to be between the pipes on Saturday. He started out extremely hot, but now has a 3.68 GAA and a .881 save percentage. Saros has allowed 15 total goals in his last three appearances. Filip Forsberg leads the team in scoring with six goals and 13 points.

Carolina Hurricanes @ Dallas Stars – 8:00 PM ET

Carolina defeated Dallas on Thursday, 5-3. They are 3-2-0 through the first five games of the six-game road trip. Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal each had a goal and an assist for Carolina. James Reimer stopped 34 of 37 shots in the victory. The Hurricanes are now 8-3-0.

They have scored 39 goals while allowing 30. After two bad starts, Reimer is turning things around, now with a 3.11 GAA and a .889 save percentage. Four players are tied for the team lead in points with 11. That includes Andrei Svechnikov and Vincent Trocheck, who are also tied for the team lead in goals with six.


With the loss, Dallas drops to 5-3-3. They have scored 37 goals while allowing 30. The regulation loss was the first by Dallas at home the season as they are now 4-1-2 at home.

Anton Khudobin stopped only 27 of 31 shots on Thursday and will get a chance to redeem himself in this contest. He has a 2.75 GAA and a .902 save percentage. Joe Pavelski continues to lead the team in scoring with 16 points and eight goals. Three other players are tied for second with 11 points each.

Calgary Flames @ Vancouver Canucks – 10:00 PM ET

Calgary defeated Vancouver on Thursday, 3-1. The Flames are now 7-5-1, scoring 39 goals while allowing 34. They have now won 13 games in a row. Jacob Markstrom was outstanding in the game, stopping 33 of 34 shots.

Mark Giordano had a goal and an assist for Calgary. Markstrom is expected to be back in the net on Saturday. He has a 2.36 GAA and a .921 save percentage in 11 starts. Elias Lindholm and Johnny Gaudreau lead the team with 14 points. Gaudreau has eight goals.


With the loss, Vancouver has now lost six straight games, dropping them to 6-11-0. They have allowed 66 goals the season, the most in the NHL while scoring 51.

Thatcher Demko stopped 23 of 26 shots against Calgary and now has a 3.74 GAA and a .896 save percentage in nine starts. Vancouver has scored plenty of goals the season. Quinn Hughes leads the team in points with 17, including 16 assists. Brock Boeser leads the team in goals with 10.
