Arizona Coyotes @ New Jersey Devils – 7PM ET

The Arizona Coyotes will be looking to open up this brand new season with a victory on the road against the New Jersey Devils here on Friday evening. For the last several seasons, the Arizona Coyotes have been the most dysfunctional and disappointing franchise in the entire league, and if they don’t turn things around quickly, there is even been talk of a potential relocation for the franchise at some point in the near future. They finished as one of the worst teams in the league last season, and that was to be expected, and they are also expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this season, so they will be able to prove the doubters wrong with a season opening opening victory here on Friday night against the Devils.

This will be the second game of a back-to-back for the New Jersey Devils with both of those games coming at home. On Thursday night they hosted the Detroit Red Wings to open up their home slate of the season. Now they will be looking to pick up a victory over Arizona here on Friday night as they start the season with two of the weakest teams in the entire league. With both of those games at home, the outcome of this one looks pretty favorable for them as they do not have to travel between the second and first leg of this back-to-back. I think that’ll result in a comfortable New Jersey Devils win here on Friday night as I look for them to cover the puck line as well as pick up the victory in the process.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Washington Capitals – 7:30PM ET

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be looking to bounce back from their season opening loss to the Chicago Blackhawks with a victory over the Washington Capitals here on Friday night on the road in Washington DC. Pittsburgh held a lead throughout the majority of their game against Chicago before blowing that lead, and they ended up losing the game by a couple of goals. Now they will be looking to recover even their record on the season with a comfortable victory over one of their biggest rivals in the league as we get yet another instalment of a Sydney Crosby versus Alexander Ovechkin matchup. The Pittsburgh Penguins will be looking to grab a huge road victory here on Friday night to open up their road slate on the season. 

The Washington Capitals will be looking to open up their season with a quality victory over one of their rivals here on Friday night at home. They have the rest advantage in this game, and they will be looking to take advantage of it, and grab a victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins to kick off this brand new campaign on a positive note. They had a solid performance last season, but they couldn’t quite get the job done throughout the later parts of the year and they ended up missing out on the opportunity to win a second Stanley Cup title because of that. I expect them to put together a performance in this game and grab a victory over Pittsburgh here on Friday night for their first victory of the season.
