The Washington Wizards (9-7, 6-4 Home), one of the NBA’s top shooting defenses, welcome the Charlotte Hornets (4-13, 3-7 Away) on Sunday. Charlotte was beaten by the Cleveland Cavaliers 132-122 in double overtime at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Friday.
Kelly Oubre Jr. was the top scorer in the loss with 34 points. PJ Washington was another key contributor with 28 points and 10 rebounds. The Hornets are 14th in the Eastern Conference. Washington won a close one on Friday at Capital One Arena, beating the Miami Heat 107-106 in overtime. Bradley Beal had 27 points to top the scoresheet. With 17 points, Corey Kispert also played a part.
The Wizards are seventh in the Eastern Conference. It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. Washington will be seeking a season sweep against Charlotte after coming out on top in the only prior game 108-100 at Spectrum Center on November 7.
Kyle Kuzma led the Wizards with 20 points, while Jordan Goodwin added 17 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two blocks. Washington had 25 points in the loss. The Hornets have been led this season by Oubre Jr., who is averaging 19.2 points per game, best in the league.
Meanwhile, Mason Plumlee is grabbing 8.7 rebounds per game, most in the league, and Dennis Smith Jr. is dishing 6.2 assists (1st). Kristaps Porzingis and Kuzma have powered the Wizards’ offense, averaging 20.9 and 18.5 points per game, respectively. Porzingis leads the league in scoring, while Kuzma is first. Porzingis also has averaged 8.8 rebounds per game, most in the league.
Monte Morris has tallied 5.0 assists per game. Holding opponents to only 44.9% from the field, the Wizards are one of the NBA’s toughest FG% defenses (5th). The Wizards have had the advantage in recent matchups between the teams at Capital One Arena, winning six of the last 10.
