The New York Knicks (10-12, 4-6 Home), one of the NBA’s top scoring teams, play host to the Dallas Mavericks (10-11, 1-8 Away) on Saturday. Dallas was beaten by the Detroit Pistons 131-125 in overtime at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday, their sixth consecutive loss away from home.
With 35 points and 10 assists, Luka Doncic had a standout performance in the losing effort. The Mavericks are the ninth seed in the Western Conference. New York dropped their fourth home game in a row on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, falling to the Milwaukee Bucks 109-103. RJ Barrett led the team in scoring in the loss with 26 points. The Knicks are the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference. It’s the first meeting of the season between the teams. New York won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 107-77 triumph at American Airlines Center on March 9, their third straight head-to-head victory.
Julius Randle led the Knicks with 26 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Doncic had 31 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.The Mavs have been led this season by Doncic, who is averaging 33.6 points per game, best in the league. Doncic also is contributing 8.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game, placing him first and first in the league, respectively.
Jalen Brunson (21.3 ppg), Randle (21.1), and Barrett (18.8) have supplied much of the Knicks’ offense. Brunson leads the NBA. Randle also has posted 8.6 rebounds per game, most in the NBA, while Brunson has doled out 6.5 assists per game, most in the NBA. The Knicks are one of the top scoring offenses in the league, ranking fourth with 115.2 points per game.
