The Golden State Warriors (3-6, 0-5 Away) travel to face the New Orleans Pelicans (4-3, 1-1 Home) Friday in what should be a shootout. Golden State is playing on back-to-back days after being edged out by the Orlando Magic 130-129 at Amway Center yesterday, their fourth loss in a row.
Stephen Curry had a standout performance in the losing effort with 39 points and nine assists. The Warriors are the 12th seed in the Western Conference. New Orleans dropped a close one on Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers 120-117 in overtime.
Zion Williamson had 27 points and seven assists in defeat, leading the team. The Pelicans are seventh in the Western Conference. This is the first meeting of the season between the teams. Golden State won two out of three games between the teams last season, including a 128-107 triumph in their last meeting at Smoothie King Center on April 10. Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 41 points. Naji Marshall had 19 points in defeat.
Curry is averaging 31.0 points per game, seventh-highest in the league, to lead the Warriors in scoring this season. Curry also is contributing 7.0 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game. Williamson (22.8 ppg), Brandon Ingram (22.0), and CJ McCollum (20.7) have supplied much of the Pels’ offense. McCollum also has recorded 7.3 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Jonas Valanciunas has collected 10.4 rebounds per game. The Warriors and the Pelicans are both averaging 118.8 points per game, respectively, the top two teams in the NBA in scoring. The Warriors are 6-4 in the last 10 games at Smoothie King Center. Golden State is winless away from Chase Center this season. Meanwhile, the Warriors lost the only previous game this season when playing the second of a back-to-back, which also saw them at a rest disadvantage.
