The Miami Heat (7-10, 1-6 Away) will try to slow down one of the NBA’s top scoring teams when they are on the road to face the Minnesota Timberwolves (8-8, 4-5 Home) on Monday.
Miami is playing on back-to-back days after getting dismantled by the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-87 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse yesterday, their third straight loss. Bam Adebayo had a standout performance in defeat with 21 points and three assists. The Heat are 11th in the Eastern Conference.
Minnesota won their third in a row in a close one on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center, beating the Philadelphia 76ers 112-109. Anthony Edwards tallied 25 points to top the scoresheet. With 19 points and seven assists, D’Angelo Russell also had an impressive game.
The Timberwolves are 10th in the Western Conference. The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Minnesota won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 113-104 triumph at FTX Arena on March 12.
Jaylen Nowell led the Timberwolves with 16 points, while Edwards added 15 points and eight rebounds. Tyler Herro had 30 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the loss. Jimmy Butler and Adebayo, averaging 20.9 and 19.2 points per game, respectively, are leading the Heat in scoring this season. Both are among the league’s top scorers, as Butler is No. 1 and Adebayo is first.
Adebayo also has grabbed 8.9 rebounds per game, most in the league, while Butler has dished 6.1 assists per game, most in the league. Edwards (22.1 ppg) and Karl-Anthony Towns (21.3) have been the primary providers for the T’Wolves on offense.
Edwards leads the NBA in scoring, while Towns is first. Rudy Gobert is posting 12.6 rebounds per game, most in the NBA, and Russell is doling out 6.3 assists (1st).
The Timberwolves rank as one of the most explosive offenses in the NBA, fourth-best with 114.9 points per game. The teams have split their last 10 clashes at Target Center (5-5).
Miami has lost six straight on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Heat are 2-1 this season when playing on consecutive nights and 1-1 with a rest disadvantage. The Timberwolves are 2-0 with a rest advantage.
