Two outstanding offenses square off on Friday when the Memphis Grizzlies (10-8, 6-2 Home) play host to the New Orleans Pelicans (11-7, 5-4 Away). New Orleans dismantled the San Antonio Spurs 129-110 at AT&T Center on Wednesday. With 32 points and 11 rebounds, Zion Williamson was a top performer. The Pelicans are the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
Memphis lost on Tuesday at FedExForum, falling to the Sacramento Kings 113-109. Ja Morant had 34 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the loss, leading the team.
The Grizzlies are ninth in the Western Conference. This is the last meeting of the season between the teams. After winning the only prior season matchup against Memphis 113-102 at Smoothie King Center on November 15, New Orleans will be seeking a season sweep.
CJ McCollum led the Pelicans with 30 points and nine assists. Morant had 36 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Williamson and Brandon Ingram, averaging 23.1 and 21.7 points per game, respectively, have led the Pels in scoring this season. Both are among the league’s top scorers, as Williamson is No. 1 and Ingram is first.
Meanwhile, Jonas Valanciunas is grabbing 9.3 rebounds per game, most in the NBA, and McCollum is dishing 6.1 assists (1st). Morant has powered the Grizzlies’ offense, averaging 28.9 points per game. He is the No. 1 scorer in the league. Morant also has distributed 7.0 assists per game, most in the NBA.
Steven Adams has averaged 10.9 rebounds per game. The Pelicans and the Grizzlies rank as two of the highest-scoring teams in the NBA, third and fifth in points per game, respectively. New Orleans is scoring 117.6 per game, while Memphis is averaging 114.1.
