Brooklyn Nets @ Philadelphia 76ers – 7.30pm ET

Only two games on in the NBA today, and first cab off the rank is a game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets finally managed to put an end to their four game losing streak with a win last time out, against the Hornets, 1320121. The 76ers have won eight of their last 10 games, and this takes their overall season record to 40-24.

The Brooklyn Nets locked in on Tuesday night and put together a very professional performance when they really needed a win. The 132-121 win over Charlotte moved their record back to .500 at 33-33 and gave them sole possession of the 8 seed in the East. Now they will focus their attention on the Philadelphia 76ers and former teammate James Harden in what will be a very interesting battle. The Sixers have looked like maybe the best team in the entire league since acquiring Harden from the Nets and Brooklyn on the other hand hasn’t been able to enjoy all their assets from the deal. Ben Simmons has yet to suit up for his new team and there’s not even a timeframe for when that may happen.

Seth Curry has been a nice addition for Brooklyn, and may be very key down the stretch for home games since Kyrie Irving as of right now can still only play road games. Luckily for the Nets, this huge battle is on the road so they will have their superstar point guard, who is fresh off a 50 point game against the Hornets. It’s so perfect that this will be the only NBA game on at the time and we can all just focus on the storylines and great action we will get. Kevin Durant took a backseat to Kyrie last game, but something tells me he will be the one in attack mode in this game. He and James Harden’s relationship appears to have soured during the latter half of Harden’s time in Brooklyn and I think he will try and obliterate him in this matchup. When the Nets see an opportunity and have their backs against the wall, is the best time to back them and that’s exactly the situation they’ll be in on Thursday in Philly. They will not allow this game to get out of hand so give me the points with Brooklyn who may just win the game outright.

Jeffery’s NBA Pick: Brooklyn Nets +4.5 (-112)

The Brooklyn Nets travel to Philadelphia on Thursday to take on the 76ers, in what might just be the NBA’s most tense rivalry at the moment. These two teams—just about 2 hours in distance—have already had high tensions toward one another over the past three seasons, but that only escalated in the last month when two disgruntled stars, the Nets’ James Harden and the Sixers’ Ben Simmons, were traded for each other. Simmons had been sitting out the entire season for the Sixers and still is “ramping up” to compete, so he will be able to avoid a rude welcome back from the Sixers faithful tomorrow night. Meanwhile, Harden will be fully ready to take on his former team of just over a year. So Far the Sixers have gone 5-1 since Harden’s debut, with the one loss coming in a game in which Harden rested.

He’ll be ready to turn up the volume against his former team, which is known for their fair share of defensive struggles. Even though all eyes will be on Harden in this one, they should be on Joel Embiid, as the MVP candidate continues to roll, and faces a Brooklyn team that doesn’t really have an answer for him. As for the Nets, they’ll have both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in this one, and after they pretty easily handled a Charlotte Hornets team that was battling them for the eighth seed, they’ll come into a tense atmosphere with a bit of confidence. This one either ends up being another close contest between these two or the 76ers just ride their home atmosphere from the jump and never look back. I’ll pick (and hope) for this one to be close, but I’ll go with the Sixers to prevail thanks to a dominant effort by Embiid.

Michael’s NBA Pick: Philadelphia 76ers (-196)

The Brooklyn Nets have finally won another game, as they knocked off Charlotte in their last game. They’ve been abysmal as of late, primarily with Kevin Durant out of the lineup, but they also struggled once KD returned, which had many people, including myself, worried. Now, with a win, we’ll get the chance to see whether they can carry that momentum forward, against a  Philadelphia team that is playing like one of the best teams in the NBA.

The Sixers have been on fire lately, seeming to put to rest the question of whether or not Joel Embiid and James Harden could play well together. They’ve won eight of their last 10, and are showing that they’re a real contender to come out of the East. That is certainly reliant upon both superstars playing great ball though, as outside of those two, the team is lacking some depth, partially due to what they gave up in the trade. As for this matchup, I’m going to take the duo of Harden and Embiid over Durant and Irving, especially with it being in Philadelphia. It was a good one-game winning streak for Brooklyn, but they get back to their losing ways here, as they can’t keep up with a Philly team that’s playing phenomenal basketball right now.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Philadelphia 76ers -4.5 (-108)

Golden State Warriors @ Denver Nuggets – 10pm ET

The final game on Thursday night in the NBA will see the Golden State Warriors go up against the Denver Nuggets. The Warriors finally managed to snap their five game losing skid last time out, with a win over the Clippers, 112-97. The Nuggets are playing on back-to-back nights and last time out they beat the Kings, 106-100.

Jeffery Thomas

After resting all their starters on the first leg of a back-to-back, the Warriors came out on Tuesday and beat the Clippers handily by a score of 112-97. It wasn’t the greatest shooting performance ever by the Splash Bros, who combined for 3-15 from three point range but they got the win with elite defense, holding LA to 35% shooting. It was a much needed win for the Dubs who were on a five-game losing streak and now have to be feeling even more motivated with the news that Draymond Green is eyeing a return for their Saturday game against Milwaukee. They got Wednesday off and will not get Denver on Thursday, who will be coming in on the back-to-back after facing the Sacramento Kings.

The Warriors have not fully regained our trust, but the Clippers game was a sign of hopefully good things to come. I think that game off for all their starters was a true eye-opener and a possible turning point for their season, as they were really heading towards a complete fall off from the hot start to the season they had. The Nuggets own a 2-9 record over Golden State this season, so it’s a double revenge spot and a rest advantage spot for the Warriors who come in as short road favorites. I think this spread is spot on as it’ll be a close game throughout, but in the end I think the Nuggets will run out of gas after a tough game against the Kings the night before.

Jeffery’s NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors (-136)

Michael Lantz

The Denver Nuggets are one of basketball’s hottest teams, going 9-1 in their past ten, with one loss being a shocker against an Oklahoma City Thunder team missing some key players. Still, aside from that loss, this team has just continued to impress despite being without two of their best players (Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr.). Nikola Jokic has been an absolute stud, putting up numbers that could have him winning his second straight MVP award. While the Nuggets don’t have a true number two player, night in and night out they have guys stepping up, including the likes of Jeff Green and Monte Morris. Thursday will be the second time the Nuggets have played the Golden State Warriors this week, but this time, Golden State will look a little different than they did on Monday.

When the Warriors faced off against Denver on Monday, they rested Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins, and still only lost by seven points against a Denver squad who were playing their normal lineup. Golden State rested their stars in that game because they were playing a game against the L.A. Clippers 24 hours later. That move worked out for them as they beat the Clips 112-97. This broke a five-game skid for the Warriors as they’re looking to get back to the two-seed in the West. Even more exciting for the Dubs: Draymond Green and James Wiseman are scheduled to be back soon. Their recent struggles could all be a thing of the past here in a couple of weeks. On Thursday they’ll look to carry over that momentum from their win against the Clippers, as they face a Nuggets team that their backups only lost to by seven a couple of days ago. I’ll pick the Warriors to snag this win on the road.

Michaels’s NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors -2 (-110)

Noah Dunlap

Much like Brooklyn, the Golden State Warriors got back on the winning side of things in their last game, as they destroyed the LA Clippers to pick up their first win in six games. Defense led the way in that one, as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson continued their struggles, which has been one of the biggest reasons for their struggles of late. Draymond Green being out has also played a huge part, but with reports that he could return as early as this weekend, the Dubs have to be confident moving forward, especially if Steph and Klay get things going once again.

Denver, on the other hand, has been playing great basketball lately, virtually solely behind the phenomenal play of Nikola Jokic, who has shown that he’s arguably the best player in basketball when he chooses to be. They’re coming off of a game last night at home that saw them have to hold on to survive against Sacramento. Now they get the chance to host Golden State, and I don’t think they get quite as lucky, as I think the Warriors try to speed the game up against what is likely to be a slightly fatigued Denver team. While I think Jokic has a big night, I think Golden State pulls out a close one on the road.

Noah’s NBA Pick: Golden State Warriors -2 (-110)
