The Detroit Pistons (11-33, 5-14 Home) will try to slow down one of the league’s top shooting teams when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves (20-21, 8-12 Away) on Wednesday. Minnesota topped the Houston Rockets 104-96 at Toyota Center on Sunday, their fourth consecutive win.
With 22 points and six assists, D’Angelo Russell had a standout performance. The Timberwolves are the ninth seed in the Western Conference. Detroit is playing on back-to-back days after losing their third in a row in blowout fashion yesterday at Wells Fargo Center, falling to the Philadelphia 76ers 147-116.
Jaden Ivey, Saddiq Bey, and Rodney McGruder topped the scoresheet in the loss with 17 points apiece. With 14 points and eight rebounds, Hamidou Diallo also had a strong game. The Pistons are 15th in the Eastern Conference.
The teams are meeting for the final time this season. Detroit will be pursuing a season sweep against Minnesota after getting the win in the only prior meeting 116-104 at Target Center in December 2022.
Bojan Bogdanovic led the Pistons with 28 points. Anthony Edwards had 30 points and seven rebounds in defeat. Edwards is averaging 23.7 points per game to lead the T’Wolves in scoring this season.
Meanwhile, Rudy Gobert is grabbing 11.9 rebounds per game, second-most in the league, and Russell is dishing 6.4 assists. Bogdanovic’s 21.0 points per game have powered the Pistons on offense. Jalen Duren is posting 8.5 rebounds per game, and Killian Hayes is doling out 5.6 assists.
The Timberwolves are shooting 49.1% from the field, ranking as one of the most accurate field goal shooting teams in the NBA (3rd). The Timberwolves are 3-2 in five games at Little Caesars Arena. Meanwhile, the Pistons are 2-7 when playing on consecutive nights this season and 1-5 in such games against opponents with at least a day of rest.
