The Detroit Pistons (1-5, 1-2 Home) will try to slow down one of the league’s top scoring teams when they play host to the Golden State Warriors (3-3, 0-2 Away) on Sunday. Golden State is playing the second of a back-to-back after dropping their last game against the Charlotte Hornets 120-113 in overtime at Spectrum Center yesterday.
Stephen Curry led the way in the loss with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. The Warriors are the ninth seed in the Western Conference. Detroit dropped their fifth in a row in blowout fashion on Friday at Little Caesars Arena, falling to the Atlanta Hawks 136-112. Cade Cunningham had 35 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in the losing effort, leading the team.
The Pistons are 14th in the Eastern Conference. The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Golden State won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 102-86 triumph at Chase Center on January 18, their fourth straight head-to-head victory. Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 21 points, while Curry contributed 18 points and eight assists.
Rodney McGruder had 19 points in the loss. Curry is averaging 30.8 points per game, 10th-highest in the league, to lead the Warriors in scoring this season. Curry also is contributing 6.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
Bojan Bogdanovic and Cunningham have powered the Pistons’ offense, averaging 23.0 and 22.5 points per game, respectively. Cunningham also has distributed 6.3 assists per game. Isaiah Stewart has collected 9.8 rebounds per game.
The Warriors rank as one of the top scoring offenses in the league, second-best with 119.5 points per game.The Warriors are 3-1 in four trips to Little Caesars Arena.
