The Washington Wizards (11-17, 3-10 Away) will try to slow down one of the NBA’s top scoring teams when they travel to face the Denver Nuggets (16-10, 7-3 Home) on Wednesday.
Washington dropped their last game against the Brooklyn Nets 112-100 at Capital One Arena on Monday, their seventh loss in a row. Will Barton was the key player in defeat with 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. The Wizards are the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference.
Denver won on Saturday at Ball Arena, beating the Utah Jazz 115-110. Nikola Jokic had a triple double with 31 points, 14 assists, 12 rebounds, and four blocks to lead the team. The Nuggets are third in the Western Conference, 1.5 games behind the New Orleans Pelicans.
This marks the first meeting of the season between the teams. Denver won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 127-109 triumph at Capital One Arena on March 16. Jokic led the Nuggets with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. Deni Avdija had 19 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Wizards have been led this season by Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma, who are averaging 22.6 and 21.3 points per game, respectively. Both are among the NBA’s top scorers, as Porzingis is No. 1 and Kuzma is first.
Porzingis also has grabbed 8.9 rebounds per game, most in the league. Meanwhile, Monte Morris is dishing 5.2 assists per game. Jokic (23.8 ppg) has powered the Nuggets on offense. He is the No. 1 scorer in the NBA.
Jokic has also tallied 10.1 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game, for which he ranks first and first in the NBA, respectively.The Nuggets rank as one of the top scoring offenses in the league, second-best with 115.0 points per game.
The Wizards have had the advantage in recent games at Ball Arena, winning six of the last 10. Washington is looking to avoid an eighth successive loss away from home this season. In the last 10 games, Washington is 1-9 with an average margin of -4.8 (114.1-118.9).
