The Charlotte Hornets (3-7, 1-3 Home) will be looking to halt their losing skid when they welcome the Washington Wizards (4-6, 2-3 Away) on Monday. Washington is playing the second of a back-to-back after dropping their last game against the Memphis Grizzlies 103-97 at FedExForum yesterday.
Monte Morris was the top scorer in the losing effort with 18 points. Jordan Goodwin chipped in with 9 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals. The Wizards are ninth in the Eastern Conference.
Charlotte lost their fourth in a row on Saturday at Spectrum Center, falling to the Brooklyn Nets 98-94. Terry Rozier led the team in scoring in the losing effort with 25 points. With 18 points and four blocks, PJ Washington also produced a strong performance. The Hornets are the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference.
It’s the first meeting of the season between the teams. Charlotte won three out of four games between the teams last season, including a 124-108 triumph in their last meeting at Spectrum Center on April 10. Rozier led the Hornets with 25 points and six assists.
Rui Hachimura had 21 points in defeat. The Wizards have been led this season by Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, who are averaging 21.6 and 19.2 points per game, respectively. Porzingis also has grabbed 8.2 rebounds per game, while Beal has dished 5.7 assists per game. Kelly Oubre Jr. (17.4 ppg), Washington (15.6), and Gordon Hayward (15.4) have powered the Hornets’ offense.
Mason Plumlee is collecting 8.1 rebounds per game, and Dennis Smith Jr. is distributing 5.8 assists. The Wizards have not found much success at Spectrum Center in recent seasons, losing nine of the last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Wizards lost the only prior game this season when playing on consecutive nights, which also saw them at a rest disadvantage.
The Hornets are 0-1 with a rest advantage. Washington is 4-6 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -5.3 (106.9-112.2). Charlotte has gone 3-7 over the last 10, allowing 114.4 points per game on average while scoring only 110.0 (-4.4 margin).
