Luis Castillo, one of this season’s stingiest pitchers, leads the way for the Seattle Mariners (33-33) as they host the Miami Marlins (37-31) at T-Mobile Park on Wednesday with the home team eyeing a sweep of the three-game Interleague series.
The Mariners lead the series 2-0 after winning 9-3 on Tuesday. Starter George Kirby got the win, giving up one run (0 ER) on three hits over six innings and striking out 10.
Mike Ford went 3 for 4 with two home runs, three runs, and three RBIs in the win. Jose Caballero added a triple and three RBIs. Garrett Cooper was 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Marlins.
ON THE MOUND
Eury Perez (3-1, 2.17 ERA) is slated to start for Miami. The right-hander allowed one run over five innings in his last start, a 2-1 road defeat against the White Sox on Friday.
He gave up five hits while striking out six and walking two in the no-decision. Right-hander Castillo (4-4, 2.70 ERA) is on the mound for Seattle.
It’s his first appearance of the season against the Marlins. Castillo made one start against the Marlins in 2022, throwing seven innings for the Reds in a 5-3 home win on July 27. He gave up six hits and walked one while striking out eight in the win.
In his last start on Friday, Castillo took the loss on the road against the Angels. He threw six innings and gave up five runs (3 ER) on six hits, striking out 10 and walking one in the 5-4 defeat. The right-hander is tied for third in the AL in strikeouts (92).
