Alex Cobb, one of this season’s stingiest pitchers, is set to take the mound for the San Francisco Giants (18-23) as they host the Philadelphia Phillies (20-21) at Oracle Park on Tuesday.
The Giants took Monday’s series opener 6-3, their fourth straight head-to-head victory. Reliever Scott Alexander was credited with the win after throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, and Camilo Doval threw 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his ninth save.
Michael Conforto went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs in the win. Alec Bohm was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double for the Phillies. He drove in three runs.
ON THE MOUND
Zack Wheeler (3-2, 3.80 ERA) is slated to get the start for Philadelphia. The right-hander allowed one run over seven innings in his last start, a 2-1 road win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday. He yielded three hits while striking out seven and walking one in the no-decision.
Right-hander Cobb (3-1, 1.70 ERA) will toe the rubber for San Francisco. It’s his first appearance of the season against the Phillies. Cobb made one start against the Phillies in 2022, throwing seven innings in a 13-1 home win on September 2.
He gave up three hits and walked one, while striking out seven in the win. In his last start on Thursday, Cobb got the win on the road against the Diamondbacks. He threw 7.1 scoreless innings and gave up seven hits, striking out three and walking two in the 6-2 triumph. The RHP leads the NL in ERA.
