The Padres took Monday’s series opener 10-3. Starter Blake Snell threw five scoreless innings – striking out seven – for the win. Xander Bogaerts went 3 for 3 with a home run and a double in the win. He scored two runs and drove in three. Fernando Tatis Jr. went 3 for 5 with a triple, two runs, and three RBIs.

Luis Rengifo was 3 for 4 with a home run and two runs for the Angels. Mike Moustakas added one run on two hits.

ON THE MOUND

Shohei Ohtani (7-3, 3.02 ERA) is set to take the mound for Los Angeles. The RHP ranks second in the AL in strikeouts (127). Ohtani allowed one run over 6.1 innings in his last start, a 4-2 road win over the White Sox on June 27.

He got the win, giving up four hits while striking out 10 and walking two. Righty Joe Musgrove (6-2, 3.80 ERA) will toe the rubber for San Diego.

It’s his first appearance of the season against the Angels. In his last start on Thursday, Musgrove took a no-decision on the road against the Pirates. He threw six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking one in the 5-4 defeat.
