Seattle Mariners @ Tampa Bay Rays – 6:40PM ET

It was a sluggish start to the season for the Seattle Mariners and at one point in the year it looked as if they’re streak of two consecutive 90 win seasons, and their hunt for a second consecutive playoff appearance would come to an end this year. However, as the summer months arrived Seattle picked it up throughout the year, and they now sit in a prime position to make another playoff appearance this season. Now Seattle comes into the opening game of this four game weekend series with a record of 78-61 through their first 139 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. They come into the opening game of this series looking to bounce back after their loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday afternoon.

Tampa Bay has been one of the best teams in all of baseball this season, but they have been searching for a way to replace the production of Shane McClanahan and Wander Franco over the last couple of weeks. The absence of two of their best players have certainly hurt their production over the last month or so, and they will be looking to get things back on track with a victory over the Seattle Mariners in the opening game of this four game weekend series at home on Thursday night. They will be looking to further extend the American League wildcard race lead as they have built up an eight game lead for the top spot in the AL wildcard race. I expect them to grab a victory here in this one as well at home.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Miami Marlins – 6:40PM ET

The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to pick up a victory in this series against the Miami Marlins, and they will be looking to do so in the series finale here on Thursday night in Miami. In fact, Miami has had the Dodgers number throughout the season as they have picked up three victories in five games against the first place team in the National League West division. Los Angeles will be looking to even up the season series here in the finale of the series as these two teams will meet for the final time in the regular season. Los Angeles will also be looking to get one game closer to officially clinching the division championship and a top two seed in the National League as well.

The Miami Marlins will be looking to complete the three game series sweep over the Los Angeles Dodgers with a victory here on Thursday night at home. Miami will also be looking to put some distance between themselves and the Cincinnati Reds for the third wildcard spot in the National League, which they are currently tied for heading into the final game of the series on Thursday night. It has been a roller coaster of a season for Miami, but they are getting hot at the right time as they come into this game on a five game winning streak and they will be looking to pick up their six consecutive victory here on Thursday to wrap up this series. Unfortunately for Miami, I don’t see that happening as I have the Los Angeles Dodgers grabbing the win here in this one.

Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees – 7:05PM ET

The Detroit Tigers haven’t been playing great baseball this season, but because of how weak the American League Central division has been this year, they are realistically still within striking distance to win the division. However, they will have to get hot very quickly and hope both Cleveland, and Minnesota go on huge losing streaks. As the Tigers currently find themselves nine games out of first place within the division and they have a long road ahead of them if they want to get into playoff contention coming into the final month of the season. Detroit will be looking to snap their one game losing streak in the finale of this series against the Yankees on Thursday night. 

The New York Yankees come into this game well out of playoff contention at this point unless a miracle occurs the Yankees will be missing the postseason and go yet another year without winning a World Series. That is almost unheard of from a franchise as historic as the New York Yankees, as another year without a World Series trophy will tie the longest drought in franchise history of fifteen seasons. Injuries have really hurt the New York Yankees this season, no pun intended and they will have to get on a lengthy winning streak if they want a chance at the postseason this year. Luckily for the Yankees, I do think they pick up the victory in this game to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

St.Louis Cardinals @ Atlanta Braves – 7:20PM ET

It has been a rough year for the St. Louis Cardinals, and they have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball this season after coming into the year with plenty of expectations. At this point in the season, they will simply be looking to spoil the hopes of other teams, as well as build momentum towards the future of what could be a lengthy rebuilding era for the franchise. St. Louis build up a massive lead over the Atlanta Braves early on in their game on Wednesday night and they were able to hang on for the victory and now they will be looking to replicate that performance here on Thursday as well to take the series from one of the best teams in the league on the road, where they have been really hard to beat this season. 

The Atlanta Braves come into this game looking to bounce back after they were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. Atlanta put up a massive fight as they attempted a huge comeback, but they fell short after scoring six runs against St. Louis on Wednesday night. Now they will be looking to wrap up the series here on Thursday and move on to other weekend plans as they look to clinch the top seed in the National League and continue to string wins together before heading into the postseason. That is exactly what I expect as I have the Atlanta Braves picking up the victory over the St. Louis Cardinals here in this one on Thursday night to wrap up the series.

Cleveland Guardians @ Los Angeles Angels – 9:38PM ET

Cleveland had a rough showing against Minnesota during the week but they were able to grab the series finale to keep their faint playoff hopes alive coming into the rest of the month. Now they will be looking to pick up a victory in the opening game of this four game weekend series out in Los Angeles against a struggling Angels team. Luckily, for Cleveland their victory over Minnesota on Wednesday gave them the season series over the Twins, which could loom large coming down the final stretch of the year. They currently find themselves six games out of first place in the American League Central division with 22 games remaining in the season. 

The Los Angeles Angels went all in at the trade deadline, and their experiment failed, and now they run an even higher risk of losing out on Shohei Ohtani for free over the off-season. It’ll be interesting to see how this team finishes the season, and if they choose to shut down Ohtani and Trout for the remainder of the year so they can heal up heading into next season. Despite all the talent on their roster over the last several seasons, they have never quite been able to get it all together and they were once again miss out on the playoffs at the end of the regular season this year as well. I don’t see them getting the victory here in this game on Thursday night as I have Cleveland picking up a much-needed win.
