Texas Rangers @ Miami Marlins – 1:10PM ET

The Texas Rangers and Miami Marlins will be playing the first game of their quick one game series in this one. Both teams are coming off of the break needing to string some wins together and have a strong second half of the season.

The Texas Rangers are coming out of the break with a record of 41-49 through their first 90 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in third place of the American League West division at the moment. They went into the break having lost six out of their last ten on the year and on a four game losing streak as well. They will be looking to sweep this one game series against the Miami Marlins and get the second half of their season started off on the right foot. 

The Miami Marlins are coming into this game with a record of 43-48 through their first 91 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in fourth place of the National League East at the moment as they trail the New York Mets by fourteen games heading into the second half of the season. The Marlins are coming out of the break having lost six out of the last ten on the year and are currently on a three game losing streak. 

Jeffery Thomas

The Texas Rangers and Miami Marlins will play each other in a makeup game that came from a result of the lockout to start the season. It’s just a one game series as Texas looks to turn their season around, sitting at a season-worst eight games under .500. They went into the All star break in bad form losing four straight games but Miami also wasn’t playing well either, losing their last three games before the break. 

The break could have been a good reset for both teams but it’s hard to see Miami running away with this game. They are averaging just 1.9 runs a game over their last 10 at home and on the season are just 15-29 against the run line at home. I like Texas here to keep it close and maybe even win the game outright.

The Miami Marlins are fourth in the NL East with a 43-48 record. They have lost 5 of the last 7 games and are coming off a 0-3 series loss against the Philadelphia Phillies. Miami is ranked 24th in the league scoring 4.13 runs per game and 12th in the league allowing 4.27 runs per game. Pablo Lopez will start for the Marlins tonight who is 6-4 for the season with a 2.86 ERA. Miami has won 13 of the last 16 games against teams with a losing record and have lost 21 of the last 27 interleague games.

The Texas Rangers are third in the AL West with a 41-49 record. They have lost 4 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 0-4 series loss to the Seattle Mariners. The Rangers are 13th in the league scoring 4.54 runs per game and are ranked 21st in the league allowing 4.55 runs per game. The Rangers will start John Gray who is 6-4 for the season with a 3.71 ERA. Texas has won 5 of the last 7 interleague games against a team with a losing record and 7 of the last 10 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.

New York Yankees @ Houston Astros – 1:10PM ET

The New York Yankees and Houston Astros will be playing the first game of their two game doubleheader In this one. Both teams are in first place coming out of the 2022 All-Star break and they will both be looking to continue after their strong start to the season.

The New York Yankees are coming out of the all-star break as the best team in Major League Baseball. They currently have a record of 64-28 through their first 92 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are far and away the best team in the league and are the current favorites to win the World Series this season. It would be a return to the top of Major League Baseball mountain and that is a peak they haven’t reached since 2009. It would also be their 28th World Series win. They have won five out of their last ten on the year and are currently on a two game winning streak. 

The Houston Astros are having a great start to the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are coming into the second half of the season with a record of 59-32 through their first 91 games of the year. They have been the most successful team in the American League over the last decade or so it seems like, and they just continue to keep winning every single year. They won six out of their last ten going into the break and are currently on a one game winning streak.

This is the perfect way to start up the second half of the baseball season for us fans. We get the top two teams in the American League squaring off as the New York Yankees travel down to Texas for a series with the Houston Astros. These two have already played five times, with the Astros owning a 3-2 record over the Yankees and the two losses being via walk-off fashion. They never trailed in any of those five games until the final pitch so it’s been a very favorable matchup for them despite New York owning the best record in baseball. 

Game 1 will be started by Jameson Taillon (Yankees) and Cristian Javier (Houston) which means runs should be coming in at a good rate. Taillon has given up six home runs in his last three starts alone while Javier has has been pretty efficient giving up eight runs in his last two outings which were both losses. This is a game where I don’t see either starter making it past the 6th inning and I think the over is a great bet.

The Houston Astros are on top of the AL West with a 59-32 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 1-2 series loss to the Oakland Athletics. The Astros are 14th scoring 4.50 runs per game and are ranked third in the league allowing 3.40 runs per game. Houston will start Cristian Javier tonight who is 6-5 for the season with a 3.22 ERA. The Astros have won 5 of the last 8 home games against teams with a winning record and 13 of the last 21 third games of a series.

The New York Yankees are on top of the AL East with a 64-28 record. They have lost 5 of the last 8 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are on top of the league scoring 5.39 runs per game and are allowing a league low 3.23 runs per game. The Yankees will start Jordan Montgomery tonight who is 3-2 for the season with a 3.19 ERA. They have won 21 of the last 28 games after allowing no more than 2 runs in their previous game and 6 of the last 9 home games.

Detroit Tigers @ Oakland Athletics – 3:37PM ET

The Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics will be playing the first game of their doubleheader in this one. Both of these teams had a very disappointing first half of the season. They will be looking to make up some ground in the second half of the year.

The Detroit Tigers are coming into this game with a record of 37-55 through their first 92 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in fourth place of the American League Central division as they are 12 games back of the division leading Minnesota Twins. They are having a miserable year as they are 18 games below the .500 mark heading into the second half of the season. They have lost eight out of their last ten games on the year and are currently on a four game losing streak. 

The Oakland Athletics are also having a rough season this year as they come into this game with a record of 32-61 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are in last place of the American League West division as they trail the Houston Astros by 28 games at the moment. They have lost six out of their last ten games on the year and are currently on a one game winning streak. I have the Detroit Tigers winning this first game of the doubleheader.

The All Star Break was most likely a good escape from reality for the Detroit Tigers who went into it going just 1-8 in their last nine games. Well now it’s time to shift back to reality as they try and right the ship with a series against the Oakland Athletics. It won’t get much easier as the As went into the break beating the AL West-leading Houston Astros in a three game series on the road. This one should be a pretty straightforward win for Oakland at home as the favorite. 

Neither team’s offense is good at all but there is no type of momentum on the side of Detroit at the moment and they are just 2-12 in their last 14 against the Athletics. Give me the As all day and a play on the spread isn’t a bad look either if you are feeling risky.

The Oakland Athletics are at the bottom of the AL West with a 32-61 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Houston Astros. The Athletics are second to last in the league scoring 3.38 runs per game and are 23rd in the league allowing 4.69 runs per game. Oakland will start Zach Logue who is 3-4 for the season with 5.16 ERA. The Athletics have lost 11 of the last 15 home games and 14 of the last 16 opening games of a series.

The Detroit Tigers are fourth in the AL Central with a 37-55 record. They have lost 8 of the last 9 games and are coming off a 0-3 series loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The Tigers are at the bottom of the league scoring 3.24 runs per game and are ranked 20th in the league allowing 4.50 runs per game. Tarik Skubal will start tonight for the Tigers who is 6-8 for the season with a 4.11 ERA. Detroit has lost 10 of the last 14 road games and 8 of the last 11 opening games of a series.

New York Yankees @ Houston Astros – 6:40PM ET

The New York Yankees and Houston Astros will be playing the two game of their two game doubleheader In this one. Both teams are in first place coming out of the 2022 All-Star break and they will both be looking to continue after their strong start to the season

For game two of the doubleheader the New York Yankees and Houston Astros will both be looking for a victory. The New York Yankees ace will take the mound in the night cap as Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for the Bronx Bombers. He is 9-2 on the year heading into the second half of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. 

The Houston Astros are putting Louis Garcia on the mound for the nightcap on this day night doubleheader. He is having a bit of a rough season as he comes into this game with a record of 7-5 on the year. I have the Yankees getting another win and sweeping the double header.

The nightcap of an exciting matchup between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees is set for around 6:40 eastern time. Game 2 of the series should be just.as fun, if not more, than the afternoon contest due to the pitching matchup. Gerrit Cole will be taking the mound for the Yankees and putting his 9-2 record on the line. Opposing him on the other side will be Luis Garcia who is 7-5 on the year but has really been having his game clicking the past few outings. 

Both guys have not lost a start since June so this will surely be a treat to see. I like the Yankees chances in the first game so I’ll have to pick Houston for this one just because I don’t think New York can sweep out the Astros in Houston in one day. Garcia has a good track record against the Bronx Bombers, giving up just four runs in 10 career innings. He also has held Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge to a combined 1-10 so I’m rolling with the Astros to get the job done here.

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers will be playing the first game of their four game weekend series in this one. These two National League West teams have met twice already this year. The San Francisco Giants lead the season series three games to two.

The San Francisco Giants are coming into the second half of the season with a record of 48-43 through their first 91 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in third place of the National League West as they are 12 and a half games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place. They won seven out of their last ten games heading into the break and are currently on a three game winning streak. 

The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming into the second half of the season with a record of 60-30 through their first 90 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have a ton of momentum coming into the second half of the season as they have won nine out of their last ten games on the year. They are currently on a four game winning streak at the moment.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will hope to keep their momentum from before the All Star Break going as play resumes on Thursday. Their chance to do just that comes against their NL West rival San Francisco Giants who will be traveling into LA for this four-game series. The Dodgers currently holds a 10 game lead in the division over the second-place San Diego Padres and 12.5 game lead over the Giants who are in third-place. 

That did not matter however, when these two teams met in June and it was the Giants who swept out LA in three games. Things are totally different at the moment though, as LA has gone 23-7 since then while San Fran is just 15-17. I expect those trends to hold steady Thursday night and for the Dodgers to open up this series with a nice victory in front of their home fans.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on top of the NL West with a 60-30 record. They have won 11 of the last 12 games and are coming off a 2-0 series win against the Los Angeles Angels. The Dodgers are ranked second in the league scoring 5.18 runs per game and are also second in the league allowing 3.29 runs per game. They will start Mitch White tonight who is 1-2 for the season with a 4.20 ERA. The Dodgers have won 12 of the last 14 games when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game and 49 of the last 64 home games.

The San Francisco Giants are third in the NL West with a 48-43 record. They have won 5 of the last 6 games and are coming off a 3-1 series win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Giants are 3rd in the league scoring 4.86 runs per game and are ranked 14th in the league allowing 4.29 runs per game. They will start Carlos Rodon tonight who is 8-5 for the season with a 2.66 ERA. San Francisco has won 5 of the last 6 games against teams with a winning record and 24 of the last 34 following a day off.
