Cleveland Guardians @ Chicago White Sox – 1:10PM ET

The Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox will be playing the second game of their four game weekend series in this one. These two American League Central teams have met three times already this year. In game one it was the Guardians who got the win.

Tony Battalio

The Cleveland Guardians used a huge first and second inning to pick up a must win victory over the Chicago White Sox in game one of their series. Now they will be looking to take game one of this doubleheader and game two of the series overall. They have been a resilient team this season as most people expect them to have a rebuilding year. However, now they find themselves only 2 1/2 games back of the American League Central division lead. They come into this game with a record of 47-44 through their first 91 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

It was another disappointing performance from the Chicago White Sox as they are now one game under the .500 mark. They will be facing almost a must win situation when they head into game one and game two of this doubleheader on Saturday. They come into this game with a record of 46-47 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. I don’t look for it to get much better for the white shocks here in game two as I have the guardians picking up another win.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Friday’s loss to the Cleveland Guardians was not what the Chicago White Sox needed as they once again fall below .500 on the year at 46-47. It was the fourth consecutive win for Cleveland as they pounded Chicago’s starter Lucas Giolito in the opener of this four-game weekend set. The game was never in doubt as the Guardians were already up 6-0 by the time the 2nd inning was over and starter Cal Quantrill earned his third straight win.

This was a weird result out of the break considering how good the White Sox were starting to look and I’m not going to let Friday’s game cloud my judgement too much. Johnny Cueto starting game one of this doubleheader should be able to neutralize the Guardians’ lineup enough to give Chicago plenty of opportunity to take leads and control the game. They can’t let the division get too far away from them and they know that, so expect to see some inspired play from the home team on Saturday.

The Chicago White Sox are third in the AL Central with a 46-47 record. They have won 5 of the last 7 games but are coming off an 8-2 loss to the Guardians in the series opener. The White Sox are 17th in the league scoring 4.40 runs per game and 22nd in the league allowing 4.61 runs per game. Johhny Cueto will be the White Sox’ starting pitcher tonight who is 4-4 for the season with a 2.80 ERA. The White Sox have won 6 of the last 7 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game and have lost 4 of the last 5 home games against teams with a winning record.

The Cleveland Guardians are second in the AL Central with a 47-44 record. They have won 6 of the last 8 and are currently on a four-game winning streak. Cleveland is 15th in the league scoring 4.45 runs per game and is ranked 14th in the league allowing 4.33 runs per game. The Guardians will start Triston McKenzie tonight who is 7-6 for the season with a 3.20 ERA. Cleveland has won 4 of the last 5 games following a win and 10 of the last 13 games after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Houston Astros @ Seattle Mariners – 4:10PM ET

The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners will be playing the second game of their three game weekend series in this one. These two American League West teams have met four times already this year. In game one the Astros ended the Mariners impressive winning streak.

Tony Battalio

After going undefeated for the majority of July the Seattle Mariners have finally lost a baseball game. After 14 straight victories the Houston Astros ended their impressive winning streak and took game one of the series in the process. The Mariners are still eight games above .500 heading into game two of the series and have plenty of time to bounce back and still win the series as well. Seattle comes into game two of this weekend series with a record of 51-43 through their first 94 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

The Houston Astros picked up a much-needed win on Friday night behind a great performance at the plate and a solid performance on the mound from Jose Urquidy. As he went six innings and gave up only one run to a red hot Mariners lineup. Jose Altuve also stepped up at the plate as he had himself a big performance as well. He will be looking to repeat his numbers from Friday night on Saturday and carry the Astros to another victory in this series. As the Astros come into this game with a record of 62-32 through their first 94 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

Houston Astros (-140)

It looks like the fears of Mariners fans came true as the All Star Break seemingly came at the worst time for their team. Seattle had won 14 in a row heading into the break and in the first game back lost to the Houston Astros, snapping the historic streak. Or it could be just the fact that the Astros are the better team and have been all season as the leaders of the AL West by over 10 games.

They showed exactly why they are the top team in the division, winning 5-2 in Seattle and getting their record up to 62-32 on the year. This win on Friday came after sweeping a doubleheader over the Yankees who own the best record in all of baseball so Houston is really putting the league on notice at the moment. This is not a team I would want to play right now and I definitely can not pick against them at the moment.

The Seattle Mariners are second in the AL West with a 51-43 record. Last night’s 5-2 loss to the Astors put an end to their 14-game winning streak. The Mariners are 23rd in the league scoring 4.19 runs per game and 4th in the league allowing 3.80 runs per game. Seattle will start Logan Gilbert tonight who is 10-3 for the season with a 2.76 ERA. Seattle has won 12 of the last 14 games against AL West opponents and 5 of the last 7 games against teams with a winning record over 60%.

The Houston Astros are on top of the AL West with a 62-32 record. They have won 4 of the last 5 games and are currently on a three-game winning streak. The Astros are 14th scoring 4.51 runs per game and are ranked third in the league allowing 3.41 runs per game. Houston will start Justin Verlander tonight who is 12-3 for the season with a 1.89 ERA. The Astros have won 12 of the last 14 road games against right-handed starter and 10 of the last 14 games against AL West opponents.

San Diego Padres @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

The San Diego Padres and New York Mets will be playing the first game of their three game weekend series in this one. They have met once already, earlier this season in a three game series. In game number one the Padres picked up the win.

Tony Battalio

The San Diego Padres picked up a big victory in game one of the three game weekend series over the New York Mets. They had a two nothing lead after the first five innings of the game and went on to score another two runs to win the game four to one. The victory improves the San Diego Padres record on the season to 53-42 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have now won four out of their last ten games on the season and will be looking to clinch the series victory here in game number two.

The New York Mets didn’t get their second half of the season started the way they would’ve liked to. As they dropped the game to the San Diego Padres at home. They will be looking to bounce back in game two of the series to even it up and set up a winner take all finale on Sunday. Despite the loss the Mets are still in a great position this season as they come into this second game with a record of 58-36 through their first 94 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

New York Mets (-155)

The San Diego Padres got their second half of the season started with a big road victory in New York over Max Scherzer and the Mets. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead before giving up their first run of the game in the bottom of the 7th but still held on for the 4-1 win in game one of this weekend series. Yu Darvish continued his success against the Mets by going seven innings and striking out 9 while only giving up one run.

The Mets will be feeling the pressure from the Atlanta Braves now, as their division lead is down to just 1.5 games following Friday’s results. Blake Snell pitching for San Diego on Saturday is a huge downgrade from Darvish though, and that’s very fortunate for the Mets. They have already handed Snell a loss on the season and are one of the best teams in the league following a loss of their own. Give me the Mets to bounce back at home.

New York Mets (-155)

The New York Mets are on top of the NL East with a 58-36 record. They have won 4 of the last 6 games but have lost the last two. The Mets are 7th in the league scoring 4.70 runs per game and are ranked 5th in the league allowing 3.84 runs per game. Chris Bassitt will start for the Mets tonight who is 7-6 for the season with a 3.79 ERA. The Mets have won 26 of the last 30 games when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game and 5 of the last 6 games played on Saturday.

The San Diego Padres are second in the NL West with a 53-42 record. They have lost 4 of the last 7 games and are coming off a 4-1 win over the Mets last night. The Padres are 18th in the league scoring 4.37 runs per game and are 8th in the league allowing 4.01 runs per game. San Diego will start Blake Snell tonight who is 1-5 for the season with a 5.22 ERA. The Padres have won 4 of the last 5 games against teams with a winning record and 9 of the last 13 games after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers – 7:15PM ET

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers will be playing the third game of their four game series in this one. In game number one of the series the Dodgers got the win and they picked up another win in game number two.

Tony Battalio

The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers had a great game on Friday evening until the Los Angeles Dodgers broke it open in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Dodgers would go on to win by a score of five to one and put themselves ahead two games to zero in this four-game weekend series. They have started out their seven game homestand with two straight victories and now have a shot to clinch this four game series here on Saturday evening. They have been one of the best teams in baseball all season long as they come into this game with a record of 62-30 through their first 92 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

The San Francisco Giants will be looking to bounce back from two straight losses and grab a win in game three to keep their hopes alive of earning a split in this four game series. They come in the game number three of the series only three games above the .500 mark with 48 wins and 45 losses through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are now in third place of the National League west division as they sit 14 1/2 games behind the Dodgers for first. I look for that lead to grow again as I have Los Angeles winning game three as well.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Los Angeles Dodgers (-175)

It was win number 6 in a row for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night as they got the victory at home over the San Francisco Giants. Cody Bellinger’s grand slam in the bottom of the 8th inning broke a 1-1 tie and helped the Dodgers get to win number 62 on the season.  The Giants have had really bad luck in these 8th innings after losing their 6-5 lead in Thursday’s game during the eighth and going on to lose 9-6.

They have two more chances to beat LA, starting on Saturday against Julio Urias who is already 1-1 against San Francisco this season. He has only given up two runs to them though so he knows how to get through this lineup pretty thoroughly and that will allow the Dodgers offense to lead the way to victory. They’ve only lost two games all month so there’s no reason to believe they’ll drop this game to a mediocre Giants team.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (+110)

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on top of the NL West with a 61-30 record. They have won the last six games including the first two of the series against the Giants. The Dodgers are ranked second in the league scoring 5.22 runs per game and are also second in the league allowing 3.32 runs per game. They will start Julio Urias tonight who is 8-6 for the season with a 2.89 ERA. The Dodgers have won 50 of their last 65 home games and 36 of the last 51 home games against teams with a winning record.

The San Francisco Giants are third in the NL West with a 48-45 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games but are coming off back-to-back losses to the Dodgers. The Giants are 4th in the league scoring 4.88 runs per game and are ranked 15th in the league allowing 4.35 runs per game. They will start Alex Wood tonight who is 6-7 for the season with a 4.20 ERA. San Francisco has won 5 of the last 6 games played on Saturday and the last 4 third games of a series.

San Francisco Giants (+145)

Los Angeles Angels @ Atlanta Braves – PM ET

The Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves will be playing the second game of their three game weekend series in this one. In game number one it was the Atlanta Braves who got the win. Now they will be looking to clinch the series in game number two.

Tony Battalio

The defending World Series champions picked up a huge 7 run victory in game one of the series with the Los Angeles Angels. While the game would remain scoreless through the first six innings the Braves would add eight runs in the seventh and eighth inning combined to take an insurmountable lead over the Angels. They are now 19 games above 500 as they come into game two of the series with 57 victories and 38 losses through their first 95 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. With the Mets loss the Braves have moved within 1 1/2 games of first place in the National League East as well.

The Los Angeles Angels just can’t seem to figure it out right now. After such an incredible start to the year everyone thought they had finally figured the correct formula out and turned it around. However, they would enter a slump and they remain there still as their season continues to slip away. They come into game two of the series 15 games below the .500 mark with a record of 39-54 through their first 93 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Atlanta Braves (-190)

Jeffery Thomas

The Atlanta Braves went into the All Star break winners of three of four and picked things right where they left off on Friday. In the first game back the Braves handed Shohei Ohtani his 5th loss of the season in an 8-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. It was a scoreless game into the 7th inning before Atlanta exploded for 7 runs and never looked back.

This win was also significant given the fact the Mets lost on Friday so the Braves were able to gain a game in the division race, closing the gap to just 1.5 games. Saturday’s game presents yet another good opportunity to gain some ground as Kyle Wright takes the mound. Atlanta has won each of the last five games he has started and with the way these two teams are heading in opposite directions it’s impossible to expect the Angels to pull this win off against the defending champions. Give me the Braves in a blowout at home.

Atlanta Braves -1.5 (+100)

The Atlanta Braves are second in the NL East with a 57-38 record. They have won 4 of the last 5 games and are coming off an 8-1 win against the Angels last night. The Braves are 5th in the league scoring 4.79 runs per game and are ranked 7th in the league allowing 3.96 runs per game. The Braves will start Kyle Wright tonight who is 11-4 for the season with a 2.95 ERA. Atlanta has won the last 4 interleague games and 21 of the last 26 games when their opponent allowed 5 runs or more in their previous game.

The Los Angeles Angels are fourth in the AL West with a 39-54 record. They have lost 8 of the last 9 games and are currently on a four-game losing streak. The Angels are 25th in the league scoring 3.99 runs per game and 17th in the league allowing 4.40 runs per game. The Angels will start Patrick Sandoval tonight who is 3-5 for the season with a 3.00 ERA. The Angels have lost 100 of the last 148 road games against teams with a winning record and 19 of the last 26 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.
