Atlanta Braves @ Philadelphia Phillies – 6:40PM ET

The Atlanta Braves come into the second game of this series looking to cap off this doubleheader with a victory on Monday night on the road in Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta has been one of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball this season and they will be looking to keep the momentum rolling in the second game of the series against their National League east divisional opponents. Atlanta could take another massive step forward towards clenching the top record of the National League and clinching the National League East division, with some successful performances during this series. As they come into this game with a magic number of six and it could drop down to as low as two  if they sweep this doubleheader. 

It was a slow start to the season for the Philadelphia Phillies but they were able to recover when the summer came around and they now find themselves in the middle of the National League wildcard race. Philadelphia is likely all but officially eliminated from the National League East division title race at this point in the season as even a sweep of the Atlanta Braves in this four-game series wouldn’t do much to cut into the Braves division lead at this point. Philadelphia will be more focused on building their lead in the National League wildcard race with some quality victories over Atlanta here today and tonight. Unfortunately for the Phillies, I don’t see that happening here in this one as I have the Braves picking up the victory.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

It has been a solid season for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but they will be looking to get things back on track here on Monday against the New York Mets as they are running the risk of the train coming completely off of the tracks late in the season. Arizona comes into the first game of the series on Monday night in New York City sitting in second place in the National League West division. Although the division title is well out of their reach at this point, they are still within the top three in the National League wildcard race, and they will be looking to extend their lead within the wildcard race with a victory over the New York Mets here on Monday night.

The New York Mets came into the 2023 Major League Baseball regular season with a ton of expectations. As they were expected to be a potential contender to win the National League pennant, and the World Series as well, considering they came into the year with one of the highest payrolls in all of baseball. Unfortunately, for the New York Mets, the amount of money that they were spending off of the field, did not match the production that they were getting on the field from some of their super star players. They have a losing record and they are currently in last place of the National League East division, and that is likely where they will remain throughout the rest of the regular season. I don’t see it getting much better for New York here in this one as I have Arizona picking up the victory.

New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox – 7:10PM ET

It has been a rough season for the New York Yankees and at this point in the year it is almost official that they will be missing out on the postseason. After several years of injuries hampering their performance throughout the middle of the season it finally caught up to them this season, and it has hurt them enough to the point where they have a losing record coming into the second week of September. In years prior, they have been able to get away with it because they were the strongest team in the American League East division but that has not been the case this season. As they have fallen behind teams like Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Toronto, and arguably even Boston as well. Unless a miracle occurs, it seems very likely that the Yankees will not be participating in the chase for a World Series this year.

The Boston Red Sox are having a solid season, but they have flown under the radar this year as well. Despite likely recording a winning season, they will probably miss out on the playoffs as well. They have been good, but at the end of the day they have just not been good enough to make a postseason appearance this season. With three weeks left to go in the season that could obviously change, but it would take a miracle of a winning streak to get Boston into the postseason at this point. Boston comes into this game six games out of the third wildcard spot in the American League but I do think they grab a victory here in this one to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.

Cleveland Guardians @ San Francisco Giants – 9:45PM ET

After having such a successful season last year, the Cleveland Guardians regressed in a major way this season. They will be missing out on the playoffs, and they were unable to win what is arguably the worst division in all of Major League Baseball this season. While they are not officially eliminated, as of right now, they are trending down at the moment, while Minnesota just seems to be unstoppable as well. Which is building up a nearly insurmountable lead for Cleveland to try and overcome throughout the last couple weeks of the season. They are coming off of a series where they lost three out of four games to the Los Angeles Angels, and they will be looking to recover in the second leg of their west coast trip here in San Francisco on Monday night.

It has been a solid season for the San Francisco Giants and they will be looking to keep the momentum rolling when they open up this three game interleague series against Cleveland on Monday night at home. While San Francisco cannot win the National League west division at this point in the season, they could still qualify for one of the top three spots in the National League wildcard race. It is currently the tightest race in baseball, so San Francisco cannot afford to drop games that they should be winning like this game here at home against Cleveland on Monday. That is exactly what I expect as I look for the San Francisco Giants to pick up the victory over Cleveland to open up the series.

San Diego Padres @ Los Angeles Dodgers – 10:10PM ET

It was supposed to be a season of excellence for the San Diego Padres this season, but they have been nowhere close to that this year. At times throughout the season, they have looked like one of the worst teams in all of baseball and their decision to go all in at last year’s trade deadline is starting to look like one of the biggest mistakes the franchise has ever made. So far it has only resulted in an early playoff exit, and now a Season, where they will likely not make the playoffs at all, and have to sell off some of their big pieces over the off-season. The San Diego Padres come into the opening game of this series with a record of 67-77 through their first 144 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. 

It was a slow start to the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers but they are in total control of the National League West division at this point in the year. They can take another massive step towards clinching yet another division title, with a quality performance in this series against the San Diego Padres, and it starts here on Monday night at home. The Los Angeles Dodgers come into this game with a record of 87-55 through their first 142 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. Their magic number to clinch the division is down to seven and with some solid performances throughout the week, they could have the division clinched by the weekend. I expect them to get this series off on the right foot with a victory over San Diego here on Monday night.
