Toronto Blue Jays @ Baltimore Orioles – 7:05PM ET

The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. These two American League East division teams have met once this season. They split a four game series as each team picked up two wins. This will be the first of two times they play this month.

Tony Battalio

It’s been a solid season this far for the Toronto Blue Jays but it is also still fair to say that they have been underwhelming. Or to put it better, under performing as they were expected to be one of the top teams in the American League and have been completely out-shadowed by the Houston Astros and New York Yankees. They come into game one of this series with a record of 60-48 through their first 108 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

The Baltimore Orioles have been surprisingly competitive this season as they were expected to be towards the bottom of the standings again this year and then dangerous in the future. However, the rebuild has seemingly ended a year early and the Orioles are making a playoff push this season. As they come into this game with a record of 56-52 through their first 108 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. I have them taking the win in game one of this series as well.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Baltimore Orioles (+120)

The Toronto Blue Jays got the win on Sunday in their series finale against the Minnesota Twins and now will travel to Baltimore for an AL East battle with the Orioles. The Orioles fell short of getting the sweep on the Pittsburgh Pirates by losing 8-1 in the finale but still feel really good about how things sit at the moment as the wild card is right within reach.

This series is an important one if they want to prove to themselves they can hang with the best teams in the league as Toronto currently holds the top wild card spot in the AL. This is an advantageous pitching matchup for Baltimore’s offense as Toronto’s starter Yusei Kikuchi has not had much command all season. The Os bullpen should do enough to neutralize the Jays’ offense and help them pull off this upset win at home.

Baltimore Orioles (+120)

The Baltimore Orioles are fourth in the AL East with a 56-52 record. Last night’s loss to the Pirates put an end to their five-game winning streak. The Orioles are 20th in the league scoring 4.27 runs per game and are ranked 11th in the league allowing 4.23 runs per game. Baltimore will start Jordan Lyles tonight who is 8-8 for the season with a 4.40 ERA. The Orioles have won 4 of the last 5 games when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game and the last 4 games played on Monday.

The Toronto Blue Jays are second in the AL East with a 60-48 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-2 series tie against the Minnesota Twins. The Blue Jays are 3rd in the league scoring 4.88 runs per game and are ranked 13th with 4.27 allowed runs per game. Toronto will start Yusei Kikuchi tonight who is 4-5 for the season with a 4.86 ERA. The Blue Jays have won the last 5 opening games of a series and 4 of the last 5 games when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game.

Marko’s MLB Pick:

Toronto Blue Jays (-145)

Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

The Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. This is the second of two times these two teams will be meeting this season. As they played in a three game series earlier this year. The Mets won that series two games to one.

Tony Battalio

It has been an incredibly rough year for the Cincinnati Reds as they have been one of the worst teams in all of Major League Baseball. They come into this game 19 games below the .500 mark as they have only managed to win 44 out of the 107 games they have played this season with a record of 44-63 on the year. Somehow they are still in third place of the division, although they’re pretty much out of the playoff race as they are 15 1/2 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central division.

The New York Mets have been riding high all season long as they have hung on the first place of the National League East division for pretty much the entire year at this point. They come into this game with a record of 70-39 through her first 109 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They currently hold a six and a half game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the division as they have a record of 8-2 over the course of their last ten games on the year.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

New York Mets (-350)

Don’t look now but the Cincinnati Reds have now won three consecutive series after taking two of three from the Milwaukee Brewers on the road over the weekend. They will now be facing off with another first place team in this upcoming series, as the New York Mets are set to host them for three games. The Mets are in top flight form at the moment and are coming off a series where they took four of five from the second place Atlanta Braves. Chris Bassitt will take the mound for New York on Monday against Justin Dunn of the Reds who is making his MLB debut.

It should not be expected for this rookie to just come in and have success against one of the best teams in baseball, so there’s no way I can back the Reds in this spot at all. Give me the Mets in a blowout in front of their home fans.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

New York Mets -2.5 (-110)

The New York Mets are on top of the NL East with a 70-39 record. They have won 5 of the last 6 games and are coming off a 4-1 series win against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets are 5th in the league scoring 4.84 runs per game and are ranked 4th in the league allowing 3.81 runs per game. Chris Bassitt will start for the Mets tonight who is 8-7 for the season with a 3.61 ERA. The Mets have won 29 of the last 34 games when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game and the last 6 games after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.

The Cincinnati Reds are fourth in the NL Central with a 44-63 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Cincinnati is 16th in the league scoring 4.41 runs per game and is ranked 28th in the league allowing 5.28 runs per game. The Reds will start Justin Dunn tonight who will make his season debut. Cincinnati has won the last 5 games when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game and 4 of the last 5 games following a win.

New York Mets (-350)

Los Angeles Angels @ Oakland Athletics – 9:40PM ET

The Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. These two American League West division teams have met three times this season. The Los Angeles Angels currently lead the season series six games to four.

Tony Battalio

The Los Angeles Angels have been a complete disappointment this season and there is no path to recovery at this point. After such a hot start where they were one of the best teams in the league they absolutely collapsed and they are yet again wasting another year of Mike Trout’s prime as well as Ohtani’s. The Angels come into this series with a record of 46-63 through their first 109 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are 23.5 games out of first place in the American League West as well.

The Oakland Athletics haven’t been much better, in fact they have been much worse than the Los Angeles Angels this season. The Athletics come into this game in last place of the division as they are 27 games below the .500 mark at the moment with a record of 41-68 through their first 109 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are 28.5 games out of first place in the division and much like the Angels, they are already virtually from the playoff race.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Los Angeles Angels (-105)

Jeffery Thomas

The Los Angeles Angels had a chance to win a series over the weekend after losing two straight but had to settle for a split with the Seattle Mariners, thanks to the 6-3 loss in the finale on Sunday. They’ll now get revenge on the Oakland Athletics who just beat them in a series last week, and who they are trying to hold down in that last place spot in the division. The As had a winless weekend at home as the San Francisco Giants came in and took both of the games in the series, by a combined score of 13-7.

This pitching matchup between Cole Irvin and Jose Suarez is a rematch of the one from August 2nd that was won by Suarez. Only two combined runs were scored on each guy and with the ineptitude of both offenses, I think it’s easy to see another pitching duel. I like the under in this one, much like the 3-1 result we got last time these pitchers squared off.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Under Total Runs (-115)

The Oakland Athletics are at the bottom of the AL West with a 41-68 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 0-2 series loss to the San Francisco Giants. The Athletics are second to last in the league scoring 3.52 runs per game and are 22nd in the league allowing 4.62 runs per game. Oakland will start Cole Irvin who is 6-8 for the season with 3.04 ERA. The Athletics have won 5 of the last 6 games against AL West and have lost 21 of the last 27 home games against teams with a losing record.

The Los Angeles Angels are fourth in the AL West with a 46-63 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-2 series tie against the Seattle Mariners. The Angels are 25th in the league scoring 3.97 runs per game and 14th in the league allowing 4.31 runs per game. The Angels will start Jose Suarez who is 3-4 for the season with a 4.55 ERA. The Angels have won 5 of the last 6 games after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game and have lost 25 of the last 35 road games.

Los Angeles Angels (-105)

San Francisco Giants @ San Diego Padres – 9:40PM ET

The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. These two National League West division teams have met three times this season. The San Diego Padres currently lead the season series six games to four.

Tony Battalio

The San Francisco Giants are coming into this game with a record of 53-55 through their first 108 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in third place in the National League West division. They trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by 22 games as they will likely be fighting for a wildcard spot for the remainder of the year. San Francisco has won five out of their last 10 games on the season and come into this game on a two game winning streak.

The San Diego Padres are quietly having a solid season as they find themselves 11 games above the .500 mark heading into this series. As they come into this game with a record of 61-50 through their first 111 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. However, they are currently on a four game losing streak and now trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by 15 1/2 games for first place. It is likely that much like the Giants they will also be fighting for a wildcard spot for the majority of the season as their deficit to the Dodgers seems insurmountable at this point.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

San Diego Padres (-190)

Jeffery Thomas

The San Francisco Giants are continuing their long shot dash for a wild card spot as they took care of business against the Oakland Athletics over the weekend, sweeping that two game series. They’ll now travel to San Diego for a NL West division battle with the Padres who are licking their wounds after being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

They never stood a chance in any of the three games and were outscored 20-4 in the series. Despite that, their wild card spot is still intact at the moment and they’ll see this as an opportunity to get back on track against an opponent with a record under .500. Padres starter Blake Snell already owns a victory over the Giants this season when he struck out 11 in just six innings back on July 8. He knows how to handle this Giants lineup and I’m expecting a similar performance here at home on Monday, helping his guys secure the victory.

San Diego Padres (-190)

The San Diego Padres are second in the NL West with a 61-50 record. They are currently on a four-game losing streak and are coming off a 0-3 series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres are 15th in the league scoring 4.41 runs per game and are 9th in the league allowing 4.12 runs per game. San Diego will start Blake Snell tonight who is 4-5 for the season with a 4.16 ERA. The Padres have won 5 of the last 6 home games and 6 of the last 8 opening games of a series.

The San Francisco Giants are third in the NL West with a 53-55 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-0 series win over the Oakland Athletics. The Giants are 9th in the league scoring 4.66 runs per game and are ranked 18th in the league allowing 4.45 runs per game. They will start Alex Wood tonight who is 7-9 for the season with a 4.42 ERA. San Francisco has lost 8 of the last 11 games when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game and the last 4 road games against teams with a winning record.

San Diego Padres (-190)

New York Yankees @ Seattle Mariners – 10:10PM ET

The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. These two American League teams have met once this season. As the Seattle Mariners took two out of three games from the New York Yankees.

Tony Battalio

The New York Yankees have been the best team in Major League Baseball all season long but they have hit a bit of a rough patch recently. As they come into game one of the series having lost their last five games in a row and losing six out of their last 10 as well. Despite the losses mounting up they still have the best record in the league and they are still the odds on favorite to go on and win the World Series so I’m sure they’re not sweating it too much just yet. As they come into this game with a record of 70-39 through their first 109 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

The Seattle Mariners have been playing solid baseball as of late as they currently hold the third wildcard spot in the American League. They come into this game eight games above the .500 mark with a record of 59-51 through their first 110 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. The Mariners have picked up five victories in their last 10 games and come into this game on a one game winning streak as well as they find themselves 11 games out of first place in the American League West.

Tony’s MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners (-110)

Jeffery Thomas

These two teams just squared off in the first series of the month where the Seattle Mariners took two of three at home from the New York Yankees. The two wins that the Mariners got in that series were the last two games on August 2nd and 3rd, the days this losing streak for the Yankees started. Yeah, that’s right, the almighty Yankees have not won a game since August 1st as they were swept out by the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.

Newly acquired starting pitcher Frankie Montas had a rough debut with the squad as he was roughed up for 6 earned runs and did not make it past the third inning. It was a taxing day for the bullpen and now the Yanks have to travel across the country to play this series opener against a Mariners team that will not be afraid of them. I think this is a great spot to fade New York as they should be pretty sluggish in this one and will probably need a day to recover from the travel and losing outings from their bullpen.

Jeffery’s MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners (-110)

The Seattle Mariners are second in the AL West with a 59-51 record. They have won 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-2 series tie against the LA Angels. The Mariners are 23rd in the league scoring 4.10 runs per game and 5th in the league allowing 3.93 runs per game. Seattle will start Logan Gilbert tonight who is 10-4 for the season with a 3.09 ERA. Seattle has won 11 of the last 14 games after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game and 22 of the last 29 games following a win.

The New York Yankees are on top of the AL East with a 70-39 record. They are currently on a five-game losing streak and are coming off a 0-3 series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Yankees are on top of the league scoring 5.34 runs per game and are third in the league allowing 3.49 runs per game. The Yankees will start Jameson Taillon tonight who is 10-2 for the season with a 3.96 ERA. They have won 6 of the last 7 games played on Monday and 35 of the last 51 games when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.
