The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians will be playing the first game of their four game series in this one. These two American League Central teams have met five previous times this season. The Guardians currently lead the season series eight games to seven.

The Detroit Tigers will be coming into game one of this four game series and game one of this day and night doubleheader with a record of 43-73 through their first 116 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in last place of the American League Central division at the moment as they come into this series against the first place in the division 19 games out of first place. They have lost nine out of their last ten games of the year and are currently on a seven-game losing streak. 

The Cleveland Guardians are one of the hottest teams in all of Major League Baseball at the moment. As they come into this game with a two-and-a-half-game lead in the American League Central division over the Minnesota Twins. They come into this game with a record of 61-53 through their first 114 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have won seven out of their last ten games on the season and I think they will take game one of this series as well.

The rough stretch continued for the Detroit Tigers as they were swept out by the Chicago White Sox over the weekend in three games. Each game was a two-run loss and every game in this 7-game losing streak except one has been decided by three runs or less. Their inability to win the close games is why this is a lost season but they can try and salvage a little bit of success down the stretch. That can start on Monday when they travel to Ohio to take on the division-leading Cleveland Guardians. 

The Guardians got a big series win over the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend, finishing things off with a 7-2 victory on Sunday in the finale. These two teams just squared off a few days ago with Cleveland getting the three-game sweep and not much should be expected to change this time around. I’m rolling with the first-place Guardians to build on their 9-7 record against Detroit this year with another win on Monday.

The Guardians will start Aaron Civale tonight who is 2-5 for the season with a 6.05 ERA. Cleveland has won 4 of the last 5 opening games of a series and 6 of the last 7 games following a loss.

The Detroit Tigers are at the bottom of the AL Central with a 43-73 record. They have lost the last 7 games and have only two wins in August. The Tigers are at the bottom of the league scoring 3.28 runs per game and are ranked 20th in the league allowing 4.53 runs per game. Drew Hutchinson will start tonight for the Tigers who are 1-6 for the season with a 4.45 ERA. Detroit has lost the last 5 opening games of a series and 9 of the last 10 games against AL Central teams.

Philadelphia Phillies @ Cincinnati Reds – 6:40PM ET

The Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds will be playing the first game of their three-game series. These two National League teams will be playing for the first of two times this season. They will play in a four game series next week as well.

The Philadelphia Phillies come into this series against the Cincinnati Reds with a record of 63-51 through their first 114 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently 11 1/2 games out of first place in the National League East division. They have picked up seven victories in their last 10 games of the year but will enter game one of the series on a two-game losing streak. They will be looking to bounce back after a rough weekend series against the division-leading New York Mets. 

It’s been a rough year for the Cincinnati Reds all season long and it likely isn’t gonna get better as the season comes to an end within the next month and a half. They come into this game 23 games below the .500 mark with a record of 45-68 through their first 113 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have lost seven out of their last 10 games on the season but they will come into this game on a one-game winning streak after winning the series finale against the Cubs on Sunday.

When the Philadelphia Phillies got the 2-1 victory over the New York Mets on Friday, I’m sure they thought it was going to be a great weekend in that series but things quickly went downhill. Philly would go on to not score a run during the other two games in that series while being outscored 7-0 and seeing their lead for that last NL wild card spot shrunk to just 1.5 games. 

They now prepare for a road series against the Cincinnati Reds who just managed to snap a five-game losing streak with an 8-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. I’m not expecting that winning streak to reach two on Monday as Mike Minor will be pitching for the Reds with his 1-9 record and 6.24 ERA. He has not won a start since June and rarely puts Cincinnati in a position to win games so this should be a pretty straightforward victory for the road Phillies.

The Cincinnati Reds are fourth in the NL Central with a 45-68 record. They have lost 5 of the last 6 games and are coming off a 1-2 series loss to the Chicago Cubs. Cincinnati is 18th in the league scoring 4.34 runs per game and is ranked 28th in the league allowing 5.34 runs per game. The Reds will start Mike Minor tonight who is 1-9 for the season with a 6.24 ERA. Cincinnati has won 7 of the last 9 home games against teams with a winning record and has lost 4 of the last 5 opening games of a series.

The Philadelphia Phillies are third in the NL East with a 63-51 record. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 1-2 series loss to the New York Mets failing to score a run in the last two games. The Phillies are 7th in the league scoring 4.68 runs per game and 9th in the league allowing 4.09 runs per game. Noah Syndergaard will be the Phillies’ starter tonight who is 6-8 for the season with a 3.96 ERA. Philadelphia has won the last 4 games after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game and the last 6 games when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game.

San Diego Padres @ Miami Marlins – 6:40PM ET

The San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins will be playing the first game of their three-game series. These two National League teams will be playing for the second of two times this season. The San Diego Padres lead the season series three games to one.

It has been a pretty successful season for the San Diego Padres and they have done it all without their star player as well. They come into the series 13 games above the .500 mark with a record of 65-52 Through their first 117 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in second place in the National League West division at the moment as they trail the Los Angeles Dodgers by 16 games at the moment. However, they currently hold onto a wildcard spot in the National League at the moment. As they are five games out of the top wildcard spot at the moment. 

The Miami Marlins are in the middle of a rough season at the moment as they come into this game 15 games below the .500 mark with a record of 50-65 through their first 115 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have lost eight out of their last ten games of the year and come into game one of this series on a four game losing streak. They are currently in fourth place in the National League East division.

The San Diego Padres bounced back from their shocking loss to the Washington Nationals on Saturday by winning the series finale in a 6-0 shutout. Blake Snell was lights out as he struck out 10 batters while only allowing three hits in 6 innings, earning his fifth win of the season. The Miami Marlins, on the other hand, continued their struggles by being swept out by their division rival Atlanta Braves over the weekend. They only scored a total of 8 runs across the four games and now have a 3-10 record in August. 

The good news for Miami is that their ace Sandy Alcantara will be taking the mound for this game on Monday against the Padres starter Joe Musgrove. Alcantara is usually a pretty reliable pitcher but has struggled a bit in a couple of outings, giving up 4 runs in two of his last three appearances. With the lack of run support that he will likely get in this one, I don’t see a way the Marlins can win this game against a Padres team that possesses a lot of firepowers.

The Miami Marlins are fourth in the NL East with a 50-65 record. They have lost 4 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 0-4 series loss to the Atlanta Braves. Miami is ranked 27th in the league scoring 3.80 runs per game and 13th in the league allowing 4.22 runs per game. Sandy Alcantara will start for the Marlins tonight who is 10-5 for the season with a 2.01 ERA. Miami has won 4 of the last 5 games against NL West teams and has lost 18 of the last 23 home games.

The San Diego Padres are second in the NL West with a 65-52 record. They have won 4 of the last 5 games and are coming off a 2-1 series win over the Washington Nationals. The Padres are 14th in the league scoring 4.53 runs per game and are 10th in the league allowing 4.09 runs per game. San Diego will start Joe Musgrove tonight who is 8-5 for the season with a 2.91 ERA. The Padres have won 4 of the last 5 games when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game and 5 of the last 6 games against teams with a losing record.

Tampa Bay Rays @ New York Yankees – 7:05 PM ET

The Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees will be playing the first game of their first game series in this one. These two American League East teams have met three times already this year. The Yankees currently lead the season series seven games to three.

The Tampa Bay Rays are coming into this game after taking two out of three from the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend. The Rays come into this game and series with a record of 60-53 through their first 113 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They are currently in third place in the American League East division at the moment as they are eleven games out of first place. They have won six out of their last ten games of the year and come into this series on a two-game winning streak. 

The New York Yankees are coming into the game with the second-best record in the American League as they have been slumping as of late. They come into this one with a record of 72-43 through their first 115 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They currently have a ten-game lead over the rest of the American League East division but have lost eight out of their last ten on the season. They are currently on a one-game losing streak.

It was a very successful weekend for the Tampa Bay Rays who took two of three from the Baltimore Orioles who are chasing them in the wild card race. That series helped them get their lead up to 1.5 games over the Os but now an even bigger test awaits them. The New York Yankees are set to host them and are struggling to find their form at the moment. The team that spent a good portion of the season with the best record in baseball is now just 3-9 in August and has lost four straight series. 

They’ve played pretty well against Tampa though, winning five of their last six meetings but it’s been a couple of months so things could be a lot different this time around. The thing that could hold the Rays back in this spot is their pitching disadvantage though, as Ryan Yarborough is winless this season (0-7) and will be opposed by New York’s ace Gerrit Cole. Cole hasn’t been himself lately though and has not recorded a win since mid-July so it’s not easy to trust him either. With both pitchers struggling I think the best move is to just take the over, as these offenses should have their chances to plate a good amount of runs.

The Atlanta Braves come into this game sitting in second place of the National League East division as they trail the New York Mets by five and a half games at the moment. They come into this series with a record of 70-46 through their first 116 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have won seven out of their last ten games of the year and have won their last six games of the season.

The battle of the top two teams in the NL East will start on Monday night as the Atlanta Braves host the New York Mets. It was a great weekend for both teams, who won their series over division opponents and now will face off for the second time this month. The last series was a long one (five games) and was dominated by the first-place Mets who won four of the five games. Getting the Mets in this game as the underdog is interesting given the fact that they have been the better team all season and have had more success in this head-to-head recently. 

Their pitcher Carlos Carrasco has done a decent job against the Braves this year, only surrendering three runs in 13 innings of work against them. Most importantly, New York won both of those outings. The Braves counter with their rookie Spencer Strider who has given up 11 runs in his last 19 innings of work. This is great value in this spot on the Mets and I can not pass it up.

The Braves are 4th in the league scoring 4.63 runs per game and are ranked 7th in the league allowing 3.99 runs per game. The Braves will start Spencer Strider tonight who is 6-4 for the season with a 3.11 ERA. Atlanta has won 5 of the last 6 games after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game and 4 of the last 5 opening games of a series.
