Mon 19th June 2023

The Texas Rangers (44-27) take their MLB-best lineup on the road to face the Chicago White Sox (31-42) at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday for the first of a three-game series. The Rangers are kicking off a six-game road trip after closing out a seven-game homestand (3-4).

They won two out of three in their last series against the Blue Jays, taking the finale 11-7 on Sunday at Globe Life Field. Corey Seager was 4 for 5 with two doubles, one run, and three RBIs. Ezequiel Duran also went 4 for 5 with a double and three runs.

The White Sox are back home for a six-game homestand after finishing up a tough six-game road trip (2-4). They lost two of three against the Mariners in their last series, dropping the finale 5-1 on Sunday at T-Mobile Park.

Elvis Andrus went 1 for 3 with a double and one run. The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Last season, the Rangers won four of the seven games between the teams, although they split their most recent four-game series at Globe Life Field in August.

ON THE MOUND

Andrew Heaney (4-4, 4.05 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Texas. The southpaw allowed one run over 3.2 innings in his last start, a 6-3 road win over the Angels on Wednesday. He gave up five hits while striking out five and walking four in the no-decision.

AT THE PLATE

The Texas offense is averaging 6.1 runs per game for the season, the best in MLB, with a slash line of .270/.339/.453. Four Rangers hitters have an OPS of .800 or better, led by Josh Jung (.839). The third baseman is slashing .280/.337/.502 with 14 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 49 runs over 68 games.

Over the last five games, however, Texas has averaged only 5.0 runs a game due in part to a declining team batting average (.262). Chicago is slashing .235/.294/.389 for the season and averaging 4.1 runs per game.

Luis Robert Jr. leads the team with a .835 OPS. The center fielder has 17 home runs, 37 RBIs, and 45 runs scored with a slash line of .258/.312/.523.

The Sox have a .734 OPS against lefties in 2023. With a 1.219 OPS over 49 at-bats, Robert Jr. also has been their best hitter against left-handers.

HOME AND AWAY

Texas is 20-14 on the road in 2023, scoring 5.8 runs per game while allowing 3.8 runs. Chicago has gone 17-17 at their home ballpark this season, averaging 4.2 runs per game while surrendering 5.0. Chicago is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings at Guaranteed Rate Field with an average scoreline of 5.8-4.2.

STANDINGS UPDATE

The Rangers lead the AL West by four games over the Astros. The White Sox are third in the AL Central, five games behind the Twins.
