A pair of productive hitters are set to face off when the Colorado Rockies (24-31) match up against the Arizona Diamondbacks (31-23) at Chase Field on Tuesday, as Ketel Marte and his 27-game on-base streak host Charlie Blackmon and his 18-game streak.
The Diamondbacks took Monday’s series opener 7-5, their third head-to-head victory in four games this season. Starter Ryne Nelson went five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, to get the win, and Andrew Chafin pitched 0.1 scoreless innings to earn his eighth save.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2 for 4 with a solo home run in the win. Pavin Smith added a home run and three RBIs. Ryan McMahon was 4 for 5 with a home run and a triple for the Rockies. He drove in three runs.
ON THE MOUND
Kyle Freeland (4-5, 3.86 ERA) is set for the start for Colorado. The LHP allowed two runs over five innings in his last start, a 7-6 road win over the Marlins on Thursday. He scattered seven hits while striking out four and walking two in the no-decision.
Freeland has made one previous start against the Diamondbacks this season, a 9-1 home loss on April 28. He surrendered three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one. Right-hander Zac Gallen (6-2, 2.97 ERA) will toe the rubber for Arizona. It’s his first appearance of the season against the Rockies.
Gallen made five appearances against the Rockies in 2022, all starts, striking out 35 and walking six over 31 innings (3-0, 2.90).In his last start on Wednesday, Gallen took a no-decision on the road against the Phillies.
He threw 5.2 innings and gave up two runs on five hits, striking out three and walking two in the 6-5 defeat. The right-hander is tied for the NL lead in wins.

Over the last five games, Colorado has averaged 7.0 runs a game, up from their season average of 4.6, while slashing better across the board (.350/.415/.572).
Against righties like Gallen this season, the Rockies have a .754 OPS. Blackmon has been the team’s biggest slugger against right-handers with a .511 SLG in 119 at-bats.
