The No. 22 San Diego State Aztecs (7-2) will try to break down one of the NCAA’s top scoring defenses when they head to face the Saint Mary’s Gaels (6-3) on Saturday. San Diego State topped the Troy Trojans 60-55 at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl on Monday, their third win in a row.
Matt Bradley was a top performer with 19 points. Saint Mary’s dropped their third in a row on Saturday at Dickies Arena, falling to the Houston Cougars 53-48. Logan Johnson had 17 points and six rebounds in the loss to lead the team.
It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. San Diego State came out on top in the only game between the teams last season 63-53 at Footprint Center in December 2021. Trey Pulliam led the Aztecs with 15 points and six assists.
Tommy Kuhse had 13 points in the losing effort. The Aztecs have been led this season by Bradley and Darrion Trammell, who are averaging 12.1 and 11.8 points per game, respectively. Meanwhile, Nathan Mensah is grabbing 6.1 rebounds per game, and Lamont Butler is dishing 3.3 assists.
Alex Ducas (13.9 ppg), Mitchell Saxen (13.3), and Aidan Mahaney (13.0) have supplied much of the Gaels’ offense. Saxen also has posted 8.6 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Johnson has distributed 4.0 assists per game. Holding opponents to 57.0 points per game, the Gaels are one of the toughest scoring defenses in the country (10th).
