The No. 17 Mississippi State Bulldogs (10-0), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, play host to the Nicholls Colonels (4-5) on Saturday. Nicholls blew out the Rust College Bearcats 85-65 at David R. Stopher Gym on Sunday. Caleb Huffman was the standout player with 31 points and five steals.
Mississippi State won their 10th in a row on Wednesday at Mississippi Coliseum, beating the Jackson State Tigers 69-59. D.J. Jeffries recorded 15 points to lead the team in scoring. With 13 points, Tolu Smith also produced a strong performance.
Latrell Jones and Huffman, averaging 15.8 and 15.2 points per game, respectively, have led the Colonels in scoring this season. Meanwhile, Manny Littles is grabbing 8.3 rebounds per game, and Micah Thomas is dishing 3.8 assists. Smith’s 16.3 points per game have powered the Bulldogs on offense.
Smith also has pulled down 9.0 rebounds per game. Cameron Matthews has recorded 2.6 assists per game.
