The Michigan State Spartans (1-1) host the No. 4 Kentucky Wildcats (2-0) Tuesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Kentucky dominated the Duquesne Dukes 77-52 at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center on Friday. Antonio Reeves was the scoring leader with 18 points.
Sahvir Wheeler was another key contributor with 11 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds. Michigan State lost a close one on Friday at USS Abraham Lincoln, falling to the Gonzaga Bulldogs 64-63. Mady Sissoko had 14 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort to lead the team.
The Wildcats won the last meeting between the teams 69-62 at Madison Square Garden in November 2019. Tyrese Maxey led the Wildcats with 26 points. Cassius Winston had 21 points in the losing effort.
The Wildcats have been led so far this season by Reeves and CJ Fredrick, who are averaging 20.0 and 17.0 points per game, respectively. Meanwhile, Jacob Toppin is grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game, and Cason Wallace is dishing 6.5 assists.
A.J. Hoggard (10.5 ppg), Joey Hauser (10.0), and Pierre Brooks (9.5) have supplied much of the Spartans’ offense. Hoggard also has recorded 7.0 assists per game. Meanwhile, Sissoko has averaged 7.5 rebounds per game.
