The Tennessee Volunteers (4-1), one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, play host to the Kansas Jayhawks (6-0) on Friday. Kansas squeaked by the Wisconsin Badgers 69-68 at Imperial Arena at Atlantis Resort yesterday, their sixth win in a row.
Jalen Wilson was the standout player with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Tennessee won their third in a row yesterday at Imperial Arena at Atlantis Resort, beating the USC Trojans 73-66. Julian Phillips had 25 points and eight rebounds to lead the team.
The Volunteers got the win in the last meeting between the teams 80-61 at Thompson-Boling Arena in January 2021. Yves Pons led the Volunteers with 17 points. David McCormack had 17 points in the losing effort.
Wilson is averaging 24.3 points per game to lead the Jayhawks in scoring this season. Wilson also has grabbed 10.3 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Dajuan Harris Jr. is dishing 6.3 assists. Phillips (12.0 ppg) and Tyreke Key (11.0) have supplied much of the Volunteers’ offense.
Phillips also has pulled down 5.2 rebounds per game. Santiago Vescovi has distributed 3.8 assists per game. The Volunteers are holding opponents to 56.4 points per game, ranking as one of the toughest scoring defenses in the NCAA (23rd).
