The No. 25 Auburn Tigers (16-5, 6-2 SEC), one of the country’s top shooting defenses, play host to the Georgia Bulldogs (14-7, 4-4 SEC) on Wednesday.
Georgia edged past the South Carolina Gamecocks 81-78 in overtime at Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday. Mardrez McBride was the key player with 17 points. The Bulldogs remain seventh in the Southeastern Conference.
Auburn dropped a close one on Saturday at WVU Coliseum, falling to the West Virginia Mountaineers 80-77. Jaylin Williams had 18 points in the loss to lead the team.
The teams are meeting for the last time this season. After winning the only previous season game against Auburn 76-64 at Stegeman Coliseum on January 4, Georgia will be pursuing a season sweep.
Terry Roberts led the Bulldogs with 26 points. Johni Broome had 22 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort. The Bulldogs have been led this season by Roberts, who is averaging 14.6 points per game. Roberts also has dished 4.1 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe is grabbing 4.3 rebounds.Wendell Green Jr. and Broome have been the primary providers of the Tigers’ offense, averaging 13.6 and 12.7 points per game, respectively. Broome also has pulled down 8.0 rebounds per game, while Green Jr. has doled out 4.3 assists per game.
Foes are shooting 39.2% from the field against the Tigers, ranking as one of the toughest FG% defenses in the nation (16th). Georgia is 6-4 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -1.3 (69.6-70.9).
For the season, the Bulldogs are averaging 70.1 points per game, compared to 66.9 for opponents. Auburn has a 7-3 record over the last 10, scoring 72.0 points per game on average while holding opponents to 66.4 (+5.6 margin).
