US Open Predictions 2022: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For Women’s Semifinals
Thu 8th September 2022

It’s the final four here at the US Open, and on the women’s side of the draw the world number one, Świątek, has successfully made it through to the semifinals. Joining her is 17th seeded Garcia, 5th seeded Jabeur, and 6th seeded Sabalenka.

With so much to play for, who will rise to the challenge, and who will crack under the pressure? Both matchups are set to be a cracker and you don’t want to miss this, as a spot in the finals is up for grabs.

Enjoy our free tennis picks and predictions for each round at the US Open for the 2022 season.

Caroline Garcia (17) vs Ons Jabeur (5)

The 17th seeded Carolina Garcia defeated American CoCo Gauff in the quarterfinals to reach this semifinal matchup. She did it in straight sets as well, which was incredibly impressive, as she has yet to lose a single set during this tournament run. The 5th seeded Jabeur defeated unseeded Ajla Tomlijanovic to reach this semi finals matchup.

Both Jabeur and Garcia have put on an absolute show in this tournament. Jabeur has only lost 1 set against Rogers in the third round. In the quarter-finals, Alja Tomijanovic put up a fight as best as she could, but Jabeur looks to be playing the best tennis of her life at the moment. The Tunisian star must be pleased with her performance, and I believe she considers herself the best player in this tournament, and she can go on and win the trophy!

Garcia has had the best tournament of any player so far. She has won every single match in a genuinely dominating fashion, and the only one who made her spend more than an hour and a half on the court was Cori Gauff in the quarter-finals. All the opponents that played her at the US Open have lost 2 to 0 in sets in a quick fashion. I expect this match to steal the show of the semi-finals. The Jabeur – Garcia matchup is a must-watch symphony of tennis that I hope and believe will end up going three sets. I am predicting the match to go over the 22.5 games mark.

Aleksandar’s US Open Pick:

Over 22.5 Games (+110)

Carolina Garcia has been incredible during her North American swing this summer. She won her third WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati and currently rides on a 13-game winning streak. The French has reached her peak performance in the best possible time as she is just two steps away from achieving her greatest feat in her career. However, she will most likely need to face off some of the most consistent tennis players this season which will be a real test of her mentality. Garcia has shown a fantastic display of skills against Bianca Andreescu and Coco Gauff which should raise some red flags for her opponents.

Ons Jabeur, on the other hand, survived a Third Round upset against Shelby Rogers which gave her the much-needed confidence for her matches with Kudermetova and Tomljanovic. She eventually cruised past them without losing a set, but each one the sets she played went all the way down the wire. It feels that the Tunisian might be slightly out of rhythm as she doesn’t seem as dominant as previously this year. Even though she has all the shots in her arsenal to overcome Caroline Garcia, I think that the French’s momentum will help her keep her winning streak.

Dennis’ US Open Pick:

Garcia (-160)

An exciting match awaits as Caroline Garcia and Ons Jabeur meet for a chance to reach this year’s US Open Final. Both players have been in scintillating form and have reached the semi final stage off the back of two really convincing performances in the last round.

Caroline Garcia is on a thirteen match winning streak and produced arguably the match of her life to beat Coco Gauff in two comfortable straight sets. Garcia has always had the talent to be at the top of the women’s game but has always looked to have lacked the belief that she truly belongs. That’s all changed now. Garcia has a great serve and a heavy forehand and both are being used to full effect at the moment.

For Ons Jabeur she is wanting to go one match better than at Wimbledon where she lost in three sets to Elena Rybakina. The Tunisian is one of the most popular players in the women’s game and the variety of slices and spins that she brings to the court is truly unique. Jabeur has just dropped one set en route to the semis and produced an assured performance to beat Serena Williams’ conquer Alja Tomljanovic in the quarterfinals. Jabeur will start this match as the favorite and that won’t be a burden to her. Jabeur holds a 2-0 head to head lead over Garcia and with her big match experience I think she will make it 3-0 here.

Jack’s US Open Pick:

Jabeur (+130)

Iga Świątek (1) vs Aryna Sabalenka (6)

It has been an incredible run by the world’s number one overall player, Iga Swiatek. Now she will face her toughest test yet in sixth seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Both of these women have flown through the competition thus far and have lost a set here and there but they didn’t let it stop them from reaching the final four in one of the most important grand slams in tennis.

I sense a pattern in Aryna Sabalenka’s game. In the US Open, after every 2 – 0 win, she lost the first set in a terrible fashion, and then went on to win the match, In the first round, she sliced through the defense of Harrison, 2-0 in sets, and then went on to lose the first set to Kanepi with 6 games to 2, in only 28 minutes. After that, she played against Burel and beat her in a little over an hour, 2-0 in sets, and then she played against Collins and got smashed 6-3 in the first set. Now, she has won against Pliskova 2 sets to 0, so I wonder… Will she start the match with a lack of focus again? Because if she does, I don’t think he can come back the same way versus Swiatek as well.

The number one ranked player in the world – Iga Swiatek has been impressive this whole year, and that continues. She has only won many major tournaments, and that form has continued at the US Open as well. She has lost only one set so far, versus the German power-hitter Neimeier who was spectacular on the day. Swiatek comes in this match as the favorite – because she is the better player. I hope Sabalenka brings her A game, and we get to see a great fight. Because everything less than 100%, wouldn’t be enough to win over Swiatek. That’s why I have Swiatek winning this matchup.

Aleksandar’s US Open Pick:

Swiatek (-190)

Iga Swiatek has been struggling to make her move at the US Open so far, but she has now set her eyes on winning the trophy. The 21-year-old Polish has already won two Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros as she is certainly looking to cement her legacy in another place as well. Swiatek showed sheer consistency that should eventually lead her to the Final match in New York. She might have raised some concerns following her tough match against Jule Niemeier, but anything was erased with a solid 2-0 victory over Jessica Pegula in the Quarter-Finals. Swiatek will certainly rely on her ironclad consistency against Aryna Sabalenka on Wednesday night.

The Belarusian has just made her third Semi-Final at a Grand Slam which can easily boost her lost confidence following a tough year filled with personal issues and hard time on the court. Sabalenka lost her last three meetings with Swiatek without winning a set and it all happened in 2022. The Belarusian had to wait until August before picking up some rhythm that can elevate her game to a level at which she is competitive enough against the up-and-coming young generation, especially Swiatek and Jabeur. However, I think that the Polish won’t have plenty of difficulties in the upcoming game with what seems to be a more troublesome Sabalenka.

Dennis’ US Open Pick:

Swiatek 2-0 (+120)

A battle of the big hitters awaits in our second semi final as Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka prepare to lock horns in a bid to reach this year’s US Open Final. Similarly to Garcia and Jabeur both Swiatek and Sabalenka head into the matchup in great form following dominant victories in the quarterfinals.

For the top seed Swiatek this is her first ever US Open semifinal and she has only dropped one set so far in the tournament. In the quarterfinals she overcame the challenge of both Jessica Pegula and the home crowd as she cruised to a 6-3 7-6 victory. Swiatek’s serve and forehand were both on full display and played a significant part in helping her get the victory. Swiatek will end the year as the world number one but will want to do it in style with her third Grand Slam title.

For Aryna Sabalenka this is her second US Open Semi Final and the Belarusian has spoken of her desire to reach the US Open Final following her inability to play at this year’s Wimbledon. Sabalenka was able to combine superb consistency with awesome power as she smashed her way through Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals. This is a tricky matchup for the Belarusian as Swiatek plays a similar style to her, but can do it better. Swiatek has won their last three matchups in straight sets and I would expect a similar outcome here.

Jack’s US Open Pick:

Swiatek 2-0 (+120)
