Australian Open Predictions 2023: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For Women’s Final
Fri 27th January 2023

It’s the Final here at the Australian Open, and on the women’s side of the draw we have two seeded players fighting for the title of 2023 champion. The fifth seeded player at the Grand Slam, Aryna Sabalenka, has also successfully made it through to the Final. She will take on the 22nd seed, and 2022 Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina.

With so much to play for, who will rise to the challenge, and who will crack under the pressure? This matchup is set to be a cracker and you don’t want to miss this, as a spot at glory and an Australian Open title is up for grabs.

Elena Rybakina (22) vs Aryna Sabalenka (5)

The two in form players at the Australian Open will clash for the right to call themselves the 2023 Australian Open champion. Elena Rybakina has made it all the way to the Final, only dropping one set along the way, with her biggest win coming against world number one, Świątek, in the Round of 16. While the fifth seed, Aryna Sabalenka, hasn’t even dropped a set so far at the Australian Open.

Elena Rybakina has had a phenomenal Australian Open, losing only one set in the tournament to Collins. She has treated the crowd to outstanding tennis performances, including her two-set victory over favorite Swiatek in the Quarterfinal. After that, Rybakina quickly dispatched Ostapenko and Azarenka, in the Semifinal, and earned her a spot in the Final. She has shown a perfect balance between strong attacks, impressive footwork, and defensive abilities. However, she faces the toughest opponent yet, Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka has yet to lose a set in 2023. After winning the Adelaide tournament in dominant fashion, she has carried that same form into the Australian Open. Sabalenka’s attacks remain an unsolvable enigma for her opponents, and she appears to be playing at a level above everyone else. Sabalenka and Rybakina have met four times in their careers, with every match proving to be a delight for the fans. Each match finished two sets to one, with Sabalenka winning three of them. I expect to see another great match and a Sabalenka victory.

Aleksandar’s Australian Open Pick:

Match Winner – Sabalenka (-125)

After winning the 2022 Wimbledon, Elena Rybakina is once again on top of her game at this year’s edition of the Australian Open. The Kazakhstani talent performed extraordinarily well throughout the second week of the tournament. She first eliminated Iga Swiatek from contention and then picked up two more clean victories over Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka. Rybakina has been one of the best players in 2022, but with Wimbledon points not being counted, she is currently sitting at world number 25. However, a win on Saturday would not only see her lifting a second Grand Slam title, but she would also reach a career-high among the top 8 in the WTA.

On the other hand, Sabalenka will be determined to prove her progress from last year with a maiden title in Melbourne. The Belarusian has been struggling a lot with her serve which took its toll throughout the entire year. She worked hard to deal with these psychological issues as she seems to be a whole new player right now. Her experience might help her in the Final, but she will still have to rely on her serve to stop Rybakina’s thunderous return. Sabalenka hasn’t lost a set in 2023 yet which makes the bookmakers put her as a favorite on Saturday. However, I think that we will see a tight match with an uncertain end. So, I will go with the option for over 2.5 sets as it seems to be the most valuable pick out there.

Denis’ Australian Open Pick:

Total Sets – Over 2.5 Sets (+135)

An exciting Final awaits between two of the biggest hitters on the WTA Tour as Elena Rybakina takes on Aryna Sabalenka. For Rybakina, this is an opportunity to win her second Grand Slam title in under a year, whereas this will be the first Grand Slam Final that Sabalenka would have competed in. Both players have been in magnificent form over the fortnight with Rybakina beating Iga Swiatek, and Sabalenka overcoming some tricky looking challenges in the form of Belinda Bencic and Elise Mertens. Both were expected to advance to the Final from their respective Semifinals. It was Rybakina who looked to have the trickier task as she had to overcome the challenge of former Australian Open Victoria Azarenka. In what was always going to be a tight and competitive match, Rybakina edged a nervy first set on a tiebreak and never looked back.

Dominating the majority of the rallies, Rybakina used her power to full effect, bludgeoning 30 winners on her way to victory. In this matchup against Sabalenka she faces one of the few players who can match her for power. In her Semifinal victory over Magda Linette, Sabalenka handled the pressure of being the heavy favorite with aplomb. Similarly to Rybakina’s match against Azarenka, Rybakina managed to hold her nerve by winning a first set tiebreak before accelerating away in the second set to win 7-6, 6-2. Sabalenka is still yet to taste defeat this year and hasn’t even lost a set, and will be looking to round her hot start to the year off with her first Grand Slam title. The pair have met on four occasions with Sabalenka leading the head to head series 3-1. However it was Rybakina who won the pair’s last meeting just a month ago and it wouldn’t be a surprise to me if she came out on top once again.

Jack’s Australian Open Pick:

Set Betting – Rybakina 2-0 (+220)
