Top Predictions Premier League For Game Week 17
Fri 1st January 2021

Everton vs West Ham

Friday, January 1, 12:30 PM ET

Week 17 of the 2020-21 English Premier League season kicks off Friday at the famous Goodison Park in Liverpool where Everton host West Ham. The Toffees are riding a four-game win streak and will search for their third consecutive home victory. On the other side, the Hammers are winless in four straight outings, recording three draws in the process.

Everton sits at the fourth spot of the Premier League table with 29 points and continues fighting for the Champions League qualification. Still, the Hammers are just six points behind, while there’s a long way to go for both clubs.

The Toffees are obviously playing in a better form than their next rivals. During their winning streak, Everton have conceded just once while scoring six goals in a return. In their previous two home games, the Toffees beat Chelsea 1-0 and Arsenal 2-1, so we expect them to defeat the Hammers, too.

West Ham failed to score in its last two road tilts. The Hammers are winless in four straight encounters with Everton, recording just one draw in that stretch.

EPL Prediction: Everton win +100

Manchester United vs Aston Villa

Friday, January 1, 3:00 PM ET

The Red Devils extended their rich vein of form with a 1-0 home victory over Wolves in the previous round. Manchester United are now sitting at the second spot of the EPL standings, just three points behind Liverpool and four points ahead of the fifth-placed Aston Villa.

As well as the Red Devils, the Lions are undefeated in five straight outings, recording three wins and a couple of losses in the process. They are undoubtedly the most pleasant surprise of the season, and the Lions have conceded only once in their previous five showings.

This should be a hard-fought battle, as two in-form clubs take on each other. The Red Devils have won three of their last four home games along with a draw, while the Hammers have won two of their last three road contests along with a stalemate.

It’s hard to separate these two foes at the moment, but we have to take the hosts who are a better team on paper. Also, Manchester United have defeated Aston Villa in 12 of their last 16 encounters, while four matchups ended in a draw.

EPL Prediction: Manchester United win -130

Tottenham vs Leeds

Saturday, January 2, 7:30 AM ET

After a strong start of the season, Tottenham have struggled mightily over the last few weeks. The Spurs have earned just two points in their previous four outings, suffering a 2-0 loss to Leicester City and a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool along with a pair of 1-1 draws against Wolves and Crystal Palace.

They will try to get things going Saturday against Leeds at home, but the Peacocks have been a tough rival to beat all season long. Leeds have won three of their last four games, scoring a whopping 13 goals in the process and allowing eight in a return.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Peacocks push forward in numbers and pressure their opponents high. That risky approach mostly brings a lot of goals on both sides, so the Peacocks lead the Premier League, as ten of their first 16 games produced more than a couple of goals in total.

We would avoid the three-way bet here and take the Over 3.0 goals. Just one of Tottenham’s last eight Premier League games saw three or more goals in total, and this is a perfect chance for a proper high-scoring affair. Leeds have the second-worst defense in the EPL, but the Peacocks have bagged 17 goals in eight games on the road.

EPL Prediction: Over 3.0 Goals -115

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United

Saturday, January 2, 10:00 AM ET

Sheffield United are having a horrible season. The Blades have earned just a couple of points out of their first 16 games, tying Portsmouth for the worst start in Premier League history. Chris Wilder is still their manager, but nobody’s sure for how long.

On the other side, the Eagles have been struggling, too, recording one win, three draws, and four losses in their last eight games. Still, they have 19 points and sit way above the relegation zone, but the Eagles have to regroup as soon as possible.

We don’t like log streaks, and the Blades are winless for too long. Therefore, bet on the visitors to win at +300 if you want to take a risk, but wagering on the Blades to stay undefeated in London seems like the best wager here.

There are still 22 games to be played, so nothing’s lost for Sheffield United. They just have to get things going, and we think the Blades will be fired up to finally break out of their funk and save their manager’s job.

EPL Prediction: Sheffield United double chance -120

Brighton vs Wolves

Saturday, January 2, 12:30 PM ET

As it was expected, Brighton are fighting against relegation, sitting at the 17th spot of the Premier League standings with 13 points and an 18:25 goal difference. The Seagulls are winless in seven games in a row, tallying four points during that stretch, while they couldn’t win in eight straight home games in all competitions.

We expect this trend to continue even though the Wanderers have disappointed thus far. They are 12th in the league with 21 points and a 15:21 goal difference, winning just one of their last six games along with four losses.

The previous three meetings between Brighton and Wolves were finished in a draw, so w’ll try to get some hefty wager here. Both teams prefer to take a cautious approach, and we shouldn’t expect to see a lot of scoring chances in this one.

EPL Prediction: Draw +225

WBA vs Arsenal

Saturday, January 2, 3:00 PM ET

WBA take on Arsenal to wrap up Saturday’s slate, and we’re all over the Gunners to win all three points. After some poor displays and three losses early in December, Arsenal have won two straight games and enter Saturday’s game at The Hawthorns with high hopes.

The Gunners lay at the 13th spot of the EPL table with just 20 points and a 16:19 goal difference. They are the biggest disappointment of the season, no doubt, and we are surprised that Mikel Arteta is still their head coach.

This time, the Gunners visit the hapless Baggies who have won eight points with an 11:35 goal difference thus far. WBA have lost three straight home games while yielding a whopping 13 goals to their opponents. Just three days ago, the Baggies were humiliated by Leeds at home, 5-0.

Both WBA and Arsenal will miss a few important first-team players. The Gunners certainly possess more depth and should escape with a victory.

EPL Prediction: Arsenal win -180

Burnley vs Fulham

Sunday, January 3, 7:00 AM ET

Every week there’s a game in the Premier League that we would just like to avoid, and Sunday starts with one of those tricky matchups, as Burnley welcome Fulham at Turf Moor. Both teams fight for their lives, so Sunday’s clash seems unpredictable, and the stats don’t help a lot.

Burnley have played in a better form than Fulham over the last few weeks, no doubt. The Clarets have won three of their last five games to escape from the relegation zone.

On the other side, the Whites are winless in five straight outings while earning a draw in the previous four. They sit at the 18th spot of the table, five points behind the 16th-placed Burnley.

Despite their solid form, the Clarets scored only nine goals this season while conceding 20 in a return. The Whites have a 13:23 goal difference, but two of their last four games saw no goals, and the other two were 1-1 stalemates.

We would like to suggest you take the Under 2.5 goals, but the odds are not tempting at all. None of the last five encounters between the Clarets and Whites was ended in a draw, and Burnley hold the slight edge in that span, so we are going with the hosts to win. Also, Burnley have won six of their last seven home games against Fulham.

EPL Prediction: Burnley win +125

Newcastle vs Leicester City

Sunday, January 3, 9:15 AM ET

Both Newcastle and Leicester City had some serious problems in December. In their last four outings, Newcastle earned only a couple of points, while the Foxes tallied four. Interestingly, these two foes met each other last New Year’s Day, and Leicester City easily outlasted the Magpies in Newcastle, 3-0, scoring a pair of first-half goals.

Due to their drop in form, the Foxes are now third in the league with 29 points and a 29:20 goal difference, while the Magpies are 14th with 19 points and a 17:24 goal difference. If they want to keep pace with the other title contenders, Leicester City need to win this game, and we think the Foxes will satisfy the odds.

Newcastle will miss centre-back Jamaal Lascelles and midfielder Ryan Fraser, while Leicester City should come in full strength. Jamie Vardy hasn’t scored in two straight games, so grab him if you like player props. Vardy scored a brace in his lone outing against the Magpies last season.

EPL Prediction: Leicester win -180

Chelsea vs Manchester City

Sunday, January 3, 11:30 AM ET

The biggest game of the week will take place at Stamford Bridge in London where Chelsea welcome Manchester City. This clash is a joy to watch, but finding the best betting value is a tricky job.

It could easily go three-way, and in the last three encounters between these two foes, each club was victorious once while their EFL Cup clash saw a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes.

Still, that was the only draw in the previous 13 duels between the Blues and Citizens, and Manchester City won seven times in the process. Last season, each team won at home, 2-1, and just four of their last seven encounters produced goals on both sides.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City have underperformed so far, earning 26 points each. Chelsea is sixth in the league thanks to a 31:18 goal difference, while Man City is eighth with a 21:12 goal difference.

The Citizens are playing in a good form, unlike the Blues who lost three of their last five games. Manchester City won three of their previous five Premier League tilts along with a couple of draws, and the Citizens are undefeated in ten consecutive games in all competitions.

While Chelsea can count on all their players, Man City will miss a couple of guys. Anyway, the Citizens have so many top-notch players, so we expect them to pile on Chelsea’s misery. The Blues are undefeated at home since September, but they’ve dropped three straight road games in December.

EPL Prediction: Manchester City win +120

Southampton vs Liverpool

Monday, January 4, 3:00 PM ET

The reigning champs will close down Week 17 on Monday, visiting Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium. Liverpool have beaten the Saints in their last six encounters, so don’t hesitate to go with the flow. Last season, the Reds defeated Southampton 2-1 on the road and 4-0 in Liverpool.

The Reds are topping the table even though they’ve failed to win in the last two weeks. After a 1-1 stalemate against the hapless WBA at home, Liverpool earned a goalless draw at Newcastle last Tuesday.

On the other side, the Saints are ninth in the league with 26 points and a 25:19 goal difference, enjoying a wonderful season thus far. However, they are winless in four straight games, tallying three draws in the process and scoring only one goal.

The Reds are coming in full strength, and we expect them to dominate the Saints.

EPL Prediction: Liverpool win -182

Odds correct at time of writing.
