SportsTips’ Euro 2020 Predictions – Quarter-finals
Fri 2nd July 2021

Our Euro 2020 Predictions are back, predicting the outcome of all four games this weekend and including our best prop bet too! After going 6-4 overall and 3-2 head to head in the Round of 16, we are confident we have found more winners for you in the Euro 2020 Quarter-finals.

It was upsets galore in the Round of 16 with three group leaders being eliminated and three third-placers advancing to the Quarter-finals. But now the Euro Final is just two wins away and the pressure is on but which teams have the strength to get through to the next round?

Switzerland vs Spain

Friday, July 2nd, 12.00 PM (EDT)

The opening game of the Quarter-finals sees Spain, second favorite to win the tournament, take on Switzerland in Saint Petersburg. The Spaniards advanced to the final eight after needing extra time to beat Croatia 5-3 while the Swiss needed penalties to dispatch of the former tournament favorites, France.

Spain’s Round of 16 performance put them in the record books, becoming the first nation in Euro history to score five goals in back to back games, showing how incredible their offensive firepower really is. The best bit is, they are very evenly spread with their 11 goals coming from seven different players, and one own goal.

While Spain has scored 11 goals and has a goal difference of +7 through their first four games, Switzerland has managed to score just seven times, with a goal difference of -1. They have allowed opposing teams to score three goals in half of their games and have a heavy reliance on Haris Seferovic and Xherdan Shaqiri, the former scoring three goals and the latter scoring two while assisting on another.

To make matters worse for the Swiss, this is uncharted territory for them, advancing to the Quarter-finals for the first time since 1954, whilst also being without their captain, Granit Xhaka, who has been suspended due to receiving two yellow cards in the tournament.

Ultimately, Spain should just win this game. They have lost to the Swiss just once from their 22 matches against each other and are the much better team going into this one.

Match Prediction: Spain (-160)
Best Prop: Over 3.5 Goals (+240)

Belgium vs Italy

Friday, July 2nd, 3.00 PM (EDT)

The matchup of the round as Belgium and Italy, fourth and third tournament favorites respectively, face off for a Semi-final berth. Both sides finished on top of their group and were flying through their first two games, however Belgium drew the toughest third place getter, Portugal, while Italy drew Austria, who finished second in Group C.

Belgium advanced to the Quarter-finals by beating Portugal 1-0, scoring their eighth goal of the tournament. Thorgan Hazard was the lone scorer in that game, his second of the tournament while Romelu Lukaku is their leading scorer with three to his name.

There are some interesting matchups in this one, especially with Lukaku playing against most of the Italian team in his most recent season with Inter Milan in the Serie A. This may give him an edge over his defenders due to familiarity, but they could say the same for him.

Those Italian defenders have definitely been working hard all tournament, not allowing any goals during the group stages and just 1 through their first four games. This has allowed Italy to open up a +8 goal differential for the tournament, even beating fellow Quarter-finalist Switzerland 3-0. While their defense has obviously been on point, their offense has been potent, with three different players scoring twice so far.

There are multiple streaks on the line in this one, with both nations on fire lately. Belgium have won 14 straight Euro games, including qualifiers, while Italy have won 12 straight internationals and haven’t lost in their last 21 games. Unfortunately for the Red Devils, Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne both failed to see out the Portugal game and then couldn’t complete their Wednesday training session, with injury clouds over both of their stars heading into this knockout clash.

That gives Italy, who are 14-4-4 all time against Belgium, and their stout defense an opportunity to capitalize on an underdone Belgium side and advance to the Semi-final round.

Match Prediction: Italy (+135)
Best Prop: Under 3.5 Goals (-600)

Czech Republic vs Denmark

Saturday, July 3rd, 12.00 PM (EDT)

In somewhat of a lacklustre event, Denmark and Czech Republic will face off in Baku on Saturday afternoon with a shot to advance to be one of the last four teams standing. After finishing second in Group B, Denmark came up against Wales in the Round of 16 and dispatched them easily, winning 4-0, while Czech Republic, who finished just third in Group D, faced Netherlands and won 2-0.

Denmark took a while to ease into the tournament, having lost their first two games with a combined 1-3 scoreline, but they have really turned it on of late, winning 4-1 and 4-0 in their most recent two. Three different players have scored at least two goals for Denmark and they have to be full of confidence following their spectacular play against Wales last Saturday.

They will be boosted by the return of Yussuf Poulsen, who has scored two goals during the tournament but missed the Round of 16 clash with Wales due to injury. The Czechs will get some extra help too with Jan Boril available after a one match suspension and will be a vital piece of their defense.

Defense will be needed as, while they have only allowed two goals in their four games, the Chech Republic have only scored five times themselves, compared to a massive nine for Denmark. Patrik Schick has scored four of those five goals, proving his importance to the side and a key matchup that the Danes will focus on.

Neither side were really expected to make it to this stage, which is a massive compliment to them both, however only one can prevail. Czech Republic will attempt to make this a slow, defensive grind by Denmark have too many options and may prove to be too good in this one.

Match Prediction: Denmark (+110)
Best Prop: Both Teams to Score – No (-128)

Ukraine vs England

Saturday, July 3rd, 3.00 PM (EDT)

England and Ukraine go head to head in potentially the most anticipated matchup of the round, albeit the most lopsided. England were always a top three chance to win the title but are now a comprehensive +175 favorite to take it all out after their 2-0 victory over Germany in the Round of 16. Ukraine meanwhile are lucky to be alive, needing a last second goal in extra time to overcome Sweden.

Completely outmatched on paper, coming up against the winner of Group E, Ukraine had nothing to lose and that is how they played. They got on the board first and with scores tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, and even at the end of extra time, Artem Dovbyk was the saviour in stoppage time, giving the Ukranians a 2-1 win.

Ukraine has two wins and two losses for the tournament, scoring six goals and allowing six goals too, but face their toughest opponents, England. After finishing third in their group and only qualifying for the Round of 16 by one goal, Ukraine are playing with house money and are massive underdogs in Saturday’s match, as seen by PointsBets’ promo above!

That is because England have been clinical, at least defensively, through their first four games. The Brits are the only nation yet to allow a goal in the tournament and have been buoyed by some excellent striking from Raheem Sterling. The striker has netted three of England’s four goals, with captain Harry Kane scoring the other.

This is a pretty straightforward selection, as the tournament favorites should breeze past this easy Quarter-finals matchup, but it would be classic England to choke at this stage. While it is always a bit of a laugh to make fun of the Brits, they are playing some really good football and will be too classy in this matchup.

Match Prediction: England (-260)
Best Prop: Both Teams to Score – No (-176)
