Which teams will put their best foot forward and make it through to the next round?

Look below to find our free soccer picks for all the games on today’s FIFA World Cup schedule!

Switzerland vs Cameroon – 5AM ET

Switzerland and Cameroon kick things off early Thursday morning. Switzerland’s odds to win the World Cup currently sit around the middle of the pack, at +10000, while Cameroon’s odds are towards the bottom, at +25000. These two teams are in Group G, which also includes the current World Cup favorites, Brazil, along with Serbia.

Tony Battalio

The Swiss come into this game as a potential dark horse to make a long run in this year’s World Cup. They have a ton of momentum after they put up a solid performance in the Euros that were originally scheduled for 2020 but were played in 2021 instead. According to the latest version of the FIFA men’s world rankings, the Swiss come into this tournament ranked as the 15th best team, just ahead of the United States. In the last World Cup they made it to the Round of 16.

The Cameroon national team comes into this one as the underdogs and the likely last place finishers in this group that also has favorites Brazil, and another dark horse Serbia in the group, as well as their opponents in this game. According to the latest version of the FIFA men’s world rankings, the Cameroonians come into this tournament ranked as the 43rd best team, five spots down from the previous rankings. In the last World Cup they appeared, back in 2014 they finished as the worst team. I think the Swiss will get a clear win in this game.

Tony’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Switzerland (-133)

Switzerland comes to the World Cup with an experienced, seasoned squad. They have had decent success and some surprising results. Last year, in the European Championship, they beat the reigning World Cup Champions – France and kicked them out of the tournament. The driving force of Switzerland and one of Arsenal’s best players – Granit Xhaka, is playing the best soccer of his life and could prove to be the difference in this match. Shaqiri is coming to Qatar in bad form, but he has always played on the highest level for his nation, and I have no doubt in my mind he will perform – once again.

Cameroon is a tough, athletic and powerful squad with lots of experience. They lack a bit in the technique department, but they more than make up for it with lots of running and enthusiasm. The addition of Brentford’s Mbeumo to the squad can prove to be the difference in them making it to the next rounds. This will be a hard-fought, tactical battle, and lots of tackles flying around. Tempers will run hot, and there will be lots of yellow cards. The team of Switzerland is the favorite, but I would rather take the bet for under 2.5 goals.

Aleksandar’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Under Goals – 2.5 (-161)

Switzerland and Cameroon are in Group G where all four teams are seeing their chances to advance. Switzerland is a pretty good team who has seen success in major competitions. They passed the group stage in Russia four years ago and eliminated France at the last EURO competition. Arsenal’s captain Granit Xhaka is the leader of this team and Xherdan Shaqiri will most likely become the Swiss player with the most World Cup appearances. This will be a special game for the Swiss striker Breel Embolo who is actually born in Cameroon and will go against his compatriots.

Cameroon is the team with the most World Cup appearances than any other African nation and has a solid team led by the real legend of this country, Rigobert Song. As any other team from Africa, Cameroon is playing defensively and will definitely use that tactic to try to stay undefeated against Switzerland. The Swiss team will not mind that at all since they are a patient team that can use any open space for a fast break. In 90 minutes, Switzerland will definitely find a way to score and that will be enough for getting the three points.

Marko’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Switzerland (-133)

Uruguay vs South Korea – 8AM ET

Two teams from Group H kick off their campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, when Uruguay take on South Korea. Uruguay have odds which put them in the top half of teams to win the World Cup, currently listed at +3300, while South Korea are towards the bottom of the pack, as they have odds of +25000. The other two teams that will be competing in Group H include Portugal and Ghana.

Tony Battalio

This game could end up being the best of the day as these two evenly matched teams are set to square off to open up their 2022 World Cup campaigns. We have already seen one team from Asia upset a solid European team when Japan fought back to take down Germany. Uruguay won the first edition of the World Cup, however they haven’t had much luck since, as they haven’t won a World Cup since 1950.

The South Koreans have never had a ton of luck on the world’s biggest stage, but they will be looking to change that in this year’s edition of the World Cup. They come into their opening game ranked 28th in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings. Their best finish ever was their fourth place finish in 2002 when they hosted the tournament. In their previous two World Cup appearances, they have failed to get out of the group stage. I expect this one to be a close fought draw.

Tony’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Draw (+240)

Uruguay has a long history in the World Cup. They won the first-ever competition, and that makes them soccer royalty. Uruguay comes to Qatar with a mix of experience and young legs, but I feel a change of generation coming soon. This competition will probably be Cavani’s and Suarez’s last World Cup, and I am not sure how much they will be able to contribute. For Uruguay to have a good World Cup, Liverpool’s shiny new – 100 million signing – Darwin Nunez, must provide a lot of goals. They have always been a strong, fiery defensive side, and that remains the case in Qatar.

South Korea has had some surprisingly good results in the World Cups. At first glance, they don’t seem like a well-recognized soccer nation, but they have always done well in tournament competitions. However, there are question marks around their superstar and best player – Son. Son had an injury scare a few weeks ago playing for Tottenham. He broke his orbital bone, and I am not sure how physically he will be ready for this match. His country will need him if they hope to have any chance in this World Cup. This should be a tight game, but with Son not being 100% ready, I will back Uruguay as the winner

Uruguay is a synonym of the World Cup as they are the first hosts and the first winner of the competition. Uruguay has always played excellently in big tournaments and will have a chance to start strong against South Korea. Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani are very experienced who can make a difference in games like this. Uruguay has 7 wins in the last 9 games and is in great form despite the recent loss to Iran in a friendly game prior to the World Cup.

South Korea is a team with a totally different playing style and approach than Uruguay. They are regular Asian representatives at the World Cup and made it to the Semi Finals back in 2002 when they were the co-hosts of the tournament. Son Heung-min is the best player on the Korean team but the Tottenham striker is not in his best shape since he has recently recovered from injury. South Korea won the last game against Uruguay but lost the previous six which clearly shows how things stand between these two teams. Uruguay will dominate the game physically and with aggressive offensive will win this game pretty easily.

Uruguay (-141)

Portugal vs Ghana – 11AM ET

Another Group H matchup, but this time we will see Portugal take on Ghana. Portugal’s odds to win the World Cup are among some of the shortest, currently listed at +1200. While Ghana are at the other end of things, with their odds at +25000. The other two teams in Group H include Uruguay and South Korea.

Tony Battalio

Portugal is set to open up the last World Cup of Cristiano Ronaldo’s career with a game against African side Ghana. Despite all the problems he has had in his club career recently, he always seemed to perform well when he is playing for his country. I expect nothing different in this one, as I expect the result of this game to be affected by how he performs on the field over the course of 90+ minutes on Thursday morning.

Ghana is a solid squad that is going to give the Portuguese all they can handle in this opening Group Stage game. It will be interesting to see how they will try and bottle up the world’s greatest player on the world’s greatest stage as well. However, when it’s all said and done, even if Portugal loses this game, I still think Ronaldo will find himself a goal.

Tony’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Anytime Scorer – Ronaldo (+110)

Portugal is coming to Qatar as one of the favorites. This is the last World Cup of the mega superstar – Cristiano Ronaldo, and his teammates will want to send him off to the sunsets with the only trophy he’s never won – the World Cup. Portugal is a well-seasoned team with a lot of talent. One of the best defenders in the World, Ruben Dias, will command the defense. Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Cancelo, and others can cut through the defense of any team and create lots of goal-scoring opportunities. Of course, the spearhead of their attack will once again be – Cristiano Ronaldo, a man who has scored over 900 goals in his career.

Ghana is a tough, athletic side that tends to outrun and outfight its opponents. They don’t possess the technical qualities on the ball to match Portugal, so they will be looking to make this into a physical battle. However, Portugal’s quality should prove too high, and in the end, this should be a comfortable win for them.

Aleksandar’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Portugal (-233)

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the top stars at the World Cup but he has made headlines for all the wrong reasons lately. He made a lot of enemies after his recent interview in which he called out many players. His Portugal teammates were not very fond of the interview and their team chemistry is not on the appropriate level. Things went that far so Ronaldo and Manchester United reached an agreement to part ways and as of yesterday, Ronaldo is the only player at the World Cup without a team. The good news for manager Fernando Santos is that he has multiple great players on the roster such as Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias.

Ghana will have a great chance to use the situation in the Portugal squad and take advantage of it. Just like any African nation, Ghana runs a lot and all the players are ready to defend their goal. Playing against such a powerful offensive line like Portugal, Ghana will have no choice but to ‘park the bus in front of the goal’. In the given circumstances, there will not be many goals in this game, so my pick is under 2.5.

Marko’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Under Goals – 2.5 (-118)

Brazil vs Serbia – 2PM ET

The final game on Thursday will see Brazil face off against Serbia. Brazil currently has the lowest odds to win the World Cup, at +300, while Serbia’s odds are listed at +8000, which puts them in the top half of teams. Brazil and Serbia are in Group G, which include Switzerland and Cameroon, who also play today.

Tony Battalio

The Brazilians come into this World Cup as one of the main favorites to win the entire thing, and it is easy to see why as they are a team that is loaded with talent, and they have won more times than anyone else as well. They come into this edition of the tournament as the best team in the world according to the latest FIFA men’s world rankings.

Serbia is an absolute underdog in this game despite how solid of a side that they are. At the end of the day you’re rarely ever going to be the favorite when you’re going back against the best collection of players on the planet. While I expect them to keep this game close for a short amount of time, eventually I think the Brazilians pull away and get the win.

Tony’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Brazil (-217)

No other country in the world has won the World Cup more times than Brazil. Once again, they are going to Qatar with that goal in mind. With the global icon, Neymar as their leader and best player, this is a formidable side with lots of depth and quality. The thing I love the most about Brazil is even though their team is full of absolute magicians with the ball who can make every player in the world look like a fool, their squad also has one of the best defenses in the world. One of the best defenders in the past 15 years, Thiago Silva, will be captaining the defense, along with his longtime partner – Marquinhos. The 5 time Champions League winner – Casemiro, will be controlling the midfield. This allows the attacking players to dance on the field and create magic.

Serbia is a fun, up-and-coming side that can surprise many people. Juventus’s 100 million signing, Vlahovic, will lead their attack, and one of the best attackers in the Premier League, Mitrovic, should play alongside him and be a nightmare for Brazil’s defenders. Lazio’s Milinkovic-Savic, and Ajax’s captain – Tadic, will look to control the midfield and create goal scoring opportunities. The match against Serbia will be far from an easy match for Brazil. Serbia will play their game and will cause real problems for the Brazilians. I expect to see a fun, open game with lots of goals.

Aleksandar’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Over Goals – 2.5 (-159)

Brazil as usual are the top favorite to win any competition and that is the case in Qatar as well. They have a packed roster with star players from the best European and Brazilian teams, and manager Tite has plenty of options on any position. Neymar is still the leader of this team and Brazil hopes that they will finally win the trophy after 20 years. Brazil is in great form winning 8 of the last 10 games with a total goal difference of 28-3. They outplayed Serbia in the last World Cup by 2-0.

Since then, Serbia has made a significant improvement under new coach Dragan Stojkovic. They won in Lisbon to book their tickets for Qatar and send Portugal to the playoffs. Serbia has one of the best offensive lines in the tournament with Juventus’ Dusan Tadic, Luka Jovic from Fiorentina and Aleksandar Mitrovic. who is one of the best scorers in the Premier League, playing for Fulham. There is no doubt that Brazil is a huge favorite but this will be a demanding game against a young and potent squad.

Marko’s FIFA World Cup Pick:

Brazil & Both Teams Score (+200)
