The Europa League Finals are finally here as Rangers from Scotland will take on Frankfurt from the Bundesliga.
Frankfurt vs Rangers – 3PM ET
This game has a ton of implications to it as a win by Rangers will put them directly into the group stage after they have already qualified for the 2022-23 Champions League via domestic league play. As for Frankfurt they are a mid level German Bundesliga team who will have to win if they want to play UEFA Champions League soccer next season. In fact they won’t be playing any European club competition’s next season if they lose as they finished 11th in the Bundesliga this season, only nine points removed from a relegation playoff spot.
This is going to be a good one regardless of the outcome as Rangers is always a fun club to watch. They finished second in the Scottish Premiership as the title was won by their rivals Celtic. As with most years it’s them and Celtic who are fighting for the title, in fact it has been Celtic or Ranger to win the title every year since the 1984-1985 season. To get here Rangers has come from the Champions League where they lost in the third round. They then defeated Armenian side Alashkert, and finished second in a group with Lyon to advance.
They defeated Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade, RB Leipzig and Braga. Frankfurt’s path has been different, as they qualified directly to the UEFA Europa League group stage via 2020-21 Bundesliga play. They topped Group D and advanced to the knockout stage where their first opponent was Real Bettis. In the Quarterfinals they upset Spanish and European giant Barcelona, and beat West Ham in the semifinals. As for the result of this one however, I am going with Rangers to get the win to put two Scottish teams directly into the group stage of the 2022-23 Champions League.
