With the Champions League Round of 16 approaching, and a plethora of strong teams remaining, let’s break down the odds for some of the tournament favourites to uncover who has the best value to lift the cup.
Bayern Munich +400
Reigning champions of Europe, Bayern Munich, are the joint favourites to lift the cup for a second year in a row. Having dropped one point in their previous 17 Champions League games, going back as far as the start of 2019 to find the last time they were defeated, Munichs’ short odds are justified. A next round tie against Lazio should see Munich progress through to the quarter finals comfortably.
Manchester City +400
This year could be the year that Pep Guardiola acquires his much desired Champions League title with Manchester City. Historically, City have struggled to do well in the tournament, never making it past the semi-finals.

Having played well domestically and in the tournament up until now, this could be the City team to break the curse. At +400 to win outright, the price reflects the strength of their form and the likelihood of defeating Borussia Monchengladbach in the next leg.
Liverpool +800
The current Liverpool side do not resemble the same team that lifted the league cup last year, mired by lengthy injuries to many star players, Liverpools’ 2020/21 season marks one of the worst title defenses in history.
The possibility of European glory is still very much alive, but an in-form RB Leipzig stands in their way. Given Liverpools’ inconsistency of late, there are teams left in the competition which are better valued and more predictable.
Juventus +1300
Andrea Pirlos’ Juventus side are 7 points behind league leaders, AC Milan, facing the prospect of their first time not winning the league since the 2010/11 season. While certainly not playing as well as previous years, their domestic troubles are more a testament to the strength of the teams above Juventus.
In the fortuitous position of playing FC Porto in the Round of 16, and boasting all time Champions League goal scorer, Christiano Ronaldo, in the squad, Juventus should expect to reach the quarter finals.
At +1300, Juventus have some of the best odds available, however, they were knocked out in the same round last year by Olympique Lyon, a tie that Juventus were the clear favourites to win.
Atlético Madrid +1500
At +1500, Atletico Madrid seem severely overvalued when looking at the pool of teams remaining. The structure of Diego Simeones’ team is hard to fault in the league this season, having lost only 1 game from 20, sitting atop the table with 5 points on second place Real Madrid.

It’s hard not to like Madrids’ chances of progressing looking to their next cup tie with Chelsea, who are performing better since appointing Thomas Tuchel as manager, but don’t look ready to defeat this Madrid outfit.
