With the series score tied up at 1 game a piece this epic battle travels to New York, where the Nassau Coliseum plays host for games’ 3 and 4. After their tight defeat in the opener game 2 was absolutely crucial for the Lightning, and they came up clutch, bouncing back with an emphatic 4-2 win.
Brayden Point opened the scoring 9 minutes into the first term, marking his NHL leading 10th goal of the postseason. The aptly named Point is now sitting 3 goals clear of the next active player in the playoffs, and at his current pace is looking very likely to finish there.
Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov unsurprisingly sat atop the scoreboards, with Hedman bagging a powerplay goal on top of an assist and Kucherov having a hand in 3 of the 4 goals with a hat trick of assists.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made some big saves in net to keep his side ahead, stopping 24 of 26 attempts. At the other end of the ice Semyon Varlamov didn’t enjoy the same night, after his elite showing in game 1 the Russian shot stopper struggled on Tuesday, allowing 4 goals from 27 attempts to see his 4 game winning streak come to an end.
The Islanders claim the hosting duties today, and they have so far been stronger on home ice, conceding fewer goals while creating more chances, which is exactly what they will need to be doing against the reigning champions.
