The Lightning went big in game 1 against the Hurricanes, beating the Central Division champions 2-1 to secure a 1-0 series lead away from home.
Despite taking less shots, winning less faceoffs, and giving away more penalty minutes than the Hurricanes, the Lightning managed to pull off the tight win thanks to a brilliant performance in net from Andre Vasilevskiy.
The Russian shot stopper made 37 saves from 38 Canes’ attempts, bringing his postseason save percentage to 93.6% from his 7 games.
Brayden Point opened the scoring halfway through the game, capitalizing on a power play to take the lead. The aptly named Point leads the Lightning for playoff goals with 5, with 2 assists on top.

The Canes eventually pulled one back, also using the man advantage early in the third term to tie the score up, but 10 minutes later Barclay Goodrow buried the game winning goal, his first point of the postseason.
The Hurricanes get a chance at redemption in Carolina today before heading to Tampa for the next 2 games, and after their statistically strong performance in game 1 we can’t see them losing again now that both teams are playing with the same amount of time between games.
