NHL Playoffs Round 2: Free NHL Picks Today for Saturday, June 5th, 2021
Sat 5th June 2021

The 2021 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing! With just the 2 games on the agenda today, we have had plenty of time this morning to research the fixtures in depth and bring you the absolute best predictions. Have a read below for all our NHL picks.

Carolina Hurricanes @ Tampa Bay Lightning (Round 2 – Game 4) – 4.00 PM EDT

After putting on a miserable showing in games’ 1 and 2 in Carolina the Hurricanes scored a huge win in game 3 to keep their playoff dreams alive, beating the reigning champions 3-2 in overtime.

The first period went goalless, but it took just 5 minutes into the second for Brett Pesce to change that, and after assisting in the first it wasn’t too long after that Sebastian Aho made it 2 with a goal of his own.

The Lightning pulled themselves back into the game by the end of the period, scoring back to back goals from Brayden Point and Alex Killorn, both of which were scored with the man advantage.

At the end of regulation time the score was still locked up at 2-2, sending the match to overtime, where Jordan Staal stepped up with the decisive goal, capitalizing on a power play to secure the crucial win.

The Hurricanes were bettered by the Lightning for shots attempted, fortunately Petr Mrazek put up a solid performance in place of Alex Nedeljkovic in net, saving 35 of 37 attempts in his first start of the postseason.

After 2shaky performances the Carolina side showed how dangerous they can be, especially when Sebastian Aho is feeling up for it, however, considering how consistent the entire Lightning side have been they once again have our bet.

Boston Bruins @ New York Islanders (Round 2 – Game 4) – 7.15 PM EDT

The Bruins replied in a big way against the Islanders on Thursday, winning 2-1 in overtime to heap the pressure onto the New York side ahead of the fourth fixture.

With just the three goals scored Thursday’s game was the tightest of the series, but with a total of 70 shots between them there was no shortage of chances. Craig Smith opened the scoring just 5 minutes into the game, and it wouldn’t be until the games’ closing 5 minutes that the Islanders would find their equalising goal via Mathew Barzal.

After withstanding an onslaught of shots and clawing back into the game, the Islanders hard work was undone after just 3 minutes, when Brad Marchand buried his team leading 5th goal to claim the victory.

With so many chances at either end of the ice the level of goaltending was impressive. Semyon Varlamov made 39 saves to keep the Islanders in the game, while Tuuka Rask was also clinical at the other end, allowing just 1 goal from 30 attempts.

It was a disappointing result for the Islanders in front of a near max capacity Nassau Coliseum, but they get another chance today in the crucial fourth game, and we like their chances to salvage the series while they still have the home advantage.
