Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Islanders – 7:00 PM ET

Pittsburgh dropped their second straight game, losing to the Islanders on Friday, 4-3. They are 1-3-1 in their last five games and are 5-5-1 overall. Pittsburgh has scored 33 goals while allowing 41. Their -8 goal differential is the worst in the East Division.

The Penguins are 1-5-1 on the road this season. Casey DeSmith has done a solid job in net with a 2.85 GAA and a .882 save percentage. However, it has been Tristan Jarry (3.95, .857) that has been between the pipes for seven of the team’s 11 games. Sidney Crosby leads the team in scoring with just nine points.

After defeating the New York Rangers on Monday, the Islanders have now won two straight games. They are 5-4-2, one point ahead of Pittsburgh in the standings. New York has scored 25 goals while allowing 27. They are 3-0-0 at home this season.

Semyon Varlamov is regaining his form after a 2-0 shutout of the Rangers. He now has a 1.88 GAA and a .932 save percentage. Goal scoring continues to be a problem for New York. Mathew Barzal leads the team in points with 12 and Jordan Eberle is the leading goal scorer with five.

NHL Pick – New York Islanders (-115)
Spread Pick – Pittsburgh Penguins +1.5 (-276)
Total Goals Pick – Under 5.5 (-105)

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Florida Panthers – 7:00 PM ET

Tampa Bay enters this contest on a six-game winning streak. They dominated Nashville on Tuesday, 6-1. The Lightning are 9-1-1, scoring 42 goals while allowing 20. Their +22 goal differential is the best in the NHL.

Tampa Bay goaltenders have allowed just one goal in each of the last four games. Curtis McElhinney finally got to see some action, stopping 23 of 24 shots in the victory over Nashville.

However, it has been Andrei Vasilevskiy who has started 10 of the team’s 11 games (1.80, .936) and he will likely be between the pipes for this game. Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point each have 14 points to lead Tampa Bay in scoring.

Florida defeated Detroit on Tuesday, 2-1. They are 2-1-1 in February and are 7-1-2 overall this season. The Panthers have scored 32 goals while allowing 28. They are 4-1-1 at home.

Florida continues to get outstanding goaltending out of Chris Driedger, who has a 1.97 GAA and a .937 save percentage. Florida is led in scoring by Jonathan Huberdeau with 14 points. Three players of the team have at least 10 points.

NHL Pick – Tampa Bay Lightning (-169)
Spread Pick – Tampa Bay Lightning -1.5 (+313)
Total Goals Pick – Under 6.0 (-105)

Edmonton Oilers @ Montréal Canadiens – 7:00 PM ET

Edmonton earned their second straight victory, completing a sweep of Ottawa Tuesday with a 3-1 victory. The Oilers are 8-7-0, third in the North Division. They have scored 52 goals while allowing 52. The 52 goals scored are the most in the NHL. The combination of Connor McDavid (9 G, 18 A) and Leon Draisaitl (8 G, 17 A) continue to lead the team.

They are 1 and 2 in the NHL in scoring. Mikko Koskinen (3.43, .895) started 13 of the team’s first 14 games, but it looks like he gets a break now that Mike Smith finally returns off IR. Smith looked great against Ottawa on Tuesday, stopping 27 of 28 shots.

Montréal is coming off a 2-1 victory over Ottawa on Saturday. They face Toronto on Wednesday night, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that game. The Canadians are 8-2-2, scoring 48 goals while allowing 31. The +17 goal differential is tops in the division. Montréal is 3-2-0 at home this season.

The combination of Jake Allen (1.81, .940) and Carey Price (2.81, .899) have been outstanding. It is likely that Allen will be between the pipes on Thursday. Montréal has five players with at least 10 points this season, led by Jeff Petry with 14 points. Tyler Toffoli is second on the team with 13 points and leads Montréal with nine goals.

NHL Pick – Edmonton Oilers (+118)
Spread Pick – Edmonton Oilers +1.5 (-210)
Total Goals Pick – Over 6.5 (+115)

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Chicago Blackhawks – 8:00 PM ET

Columbus defeated Carolina on Monday, 3-2. That gave them a split of their two-game series. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 22 of 24 shots for the victory. The Blue Jackets are now 6-5-3, scoring 39 goals while allowing 45.

They are 2-3-1 on the road this season. Columbus is led in scoring by Oliver Bjorkstrand, the only player with more than 10 points this season (11). He is also tied for the team lead in goals with four. Elvis Merzlikins will likely be between the pipes on Thursday. He has a 2.76 GAA and a .913 save percentage.

The Chicago Blackhawks are catching fire. They defeated Dallas on Tuesday in overtime, 2-1, their second straight 2-1 overtime victory over Dallas. That moved the team to 4-0-1 in their last five games. The Blackhawks are now 6-4-4, tied for second in the division.

They have scored 39 goals while allowing 41. It has been the turnaround of their goaltending that has been the difference. After allowing 20 goals through their first four games, Kevin Lankinen (2.17, .933) and Malcolm Subban (2.93, .913) have been outstanding. Patrick Kane leads the team in points with 17. He is tied with Alex Debrincat for the team-leading goals with six.

NHL Pick – Chicago Blackhawks (-115)
Spread Pick – Chicago Blackhawks -1.5 (+233)
Total Goals Pick – Under 5.5 (-115)

Detroit Red Wings @ Nashville Predators – 8:00 PM ET

Detroit is getting a lot better goaltending of late, but it is not translating into victories as they have dropped nine of their last 10 games. The Red Wings are now 3-9-2, allowing 46 goals while scoring 27. The -19 goal differential is the worst in the division.

The goaltenders have allowed six total goals over the last three games as Thomas Greiss (2.90, .904) and Calvin Pickard (2.22, .905) look like they are the right combination.

However, goal scoring has been an issue with Dylan Larkin, the team leader in points with nine. Tyler Bertuzzi leads the team in goals with five. Of the teams 27 goals, 17 have come from four players.

Nashville got swept by Tampa Bay earlier in the week and are now 1-4-0 in February. The Predators are 5-8-0 overall, scoring 31 goals while allowing 46. While Detroit’s goaltenders are getting better, those between the pipes from Nashville are stumbling this month. They have allowed 22 total goals in five games.

Pekka Rinne (2.65, .909) has been the better of the two. Juuse Saros (3.68, .881) performed well early on, but he has given up 15 combined goals over his last three starts. Nashville is led in scoring by Filip Forsberg with six goals and 11 points.

NHL Pick – Nashville Predators (-208)
Spread Pick – Detroit Red Wings +1.5 (-150)
Total Goals Pick – Under 5.5 (-120)

Ottawa Senators @ Winnipeg Jets – 8:00 PM ET

Ottawa lost to Edmonton on Tuesday, 3-2. That was their third straight loss and dropped the team to 2-11-1. They have scored 31 goals while allowing 58, giving them a -27 goal differential, the worst in the NHL.

Goaltender Matt Murray has been looking much better of late, reducing his goals-against average to 3.63. He has allowed two goals in each of his last three starts. The Senators are not doing a lot of scoring, as Brady Tkachuk leads the team in points with eight.

Winnipeg lost to Calgary on Tuesday, 3-2. That snapped their two-game winning streak against the Flames and they are now 2-1-1 in the last four games against Calgary, all of which have happened over the last nine days. Winnipeg is now 7-4-1, fourth in the North Division.

They have scored 41 goals while allowing 35 and are 5-2-1 at home this season. While Ottawa is having a lot of problems scoring, Winnipeg has five players with at least 11 points, led by Mark Scheifele with 15. Nikolaj Ehlers leads the team in goals with eight. Both Connor Hellebuyck (10.55, .911) and Laurent Brossoit (2.98, .918) have played very well in goal.

NHL Pick – Winnipeg Jets (-189)
Spread Pick – Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+125)
Total Goals Pick – Under 6.5 (-125)

St. Louis Blues @ Minnesota Wild – 8:00 PM ET – Postponed

*This game has been postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, a new date has not been confirmed at this time*

Carolina Hurricanes @ Dallas Stars – 8:30 PM ET

Carolina suffered a 3-2 loss to Columbus on Monday. That dropped the Hurricanes to 7-3-0. They have scored 34 goals while allowing 27. If there was a positive note in the game it was that Alex Nedeljkovic only allowed three goals, however, he only faced 22 shots.

With All-Star Petr Mrazek out, goaltending becomes a big question mark for Carolina. James Reimer (3.13, .883) has not looked very good in his last two starts. Andrei Svenhnikov is tied for the team lead in goals was six and leads the team in points with 10.

Dallas lost their third straight game when they fell to the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime on Tuesday, 2-1. It was their second straight overtime loss to the Blackhawks dropping Dallas to 5-2-3. They are now 4-0-2 at home.

The Stars have scored 34 goals while allowing 25. Both Jake Oettinger (2.19, .919) and Anton Khudobin (2.51, .908) looked good against Chicago. They just received no offensive support. The Stars offense has suddenly gone silent, although Joe Pavelski is still among the NHL leaders with seven goals and 15 points.

NHL Pick – Dallas Stars (+105)
Spread Pick – Dallas Stars +1.5 (-349)
Total Goals Pick – Under 5.5 (-110)

Arizona Coyotes @ Colorado Avalanche – 9:00 PM ET – Postponed

*This game has been postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, a new date has not been confirmed at this time*

Calgary Flames @ Vancouver Canucks – 10:00 PM ET

Calgary defeated Winnipeg on Tuesday for their second straight victory. The Flames are now 6-5-1, scoring 36 goals while allowing 33. Calgary continues to get solid goaltending out of Jacob Markstrom who has started 10 of the teams 12 games, posting a 2.50 GAA and a .916 save percentage.

Markstrom stopped 25 of 27 shots in the victory over Winnipeg. Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm are tied for the team lead in points with 13. Gaudreau leads the team was seven goals.

Vancouver has lost five straight games after falling to Toronto on Monday, 3-1. Goaltending has fallen apart for this team as they have allowed 26 goals in five games in February. The Canucks are 6-10-0, scoring 50 goals while allowing 63.

The 63 goals allowed are the most in the NHL and they have a -13 goal differential. Vancouver is 4-2-0 at home this season. The Canucks are getting plenty of offense, with five players with at least 11 points, led Quinn Hughes with 17 points. Braden Holtby (3.75, .885) and Thatcher Demko (3.81, .897) have credible numbers especially considering they are getting no defensive help.

NHL Pick – Calgary Flames (-135)
Spread Pick – Calgary Flames -1.5 (+231)
Total Goals Pick – Over 6.5 (+100)

Anaheim Ducks @ Vegas Golden Knights – 10:00 PM ET

Anaheim lost to Vegas on Tuesday, 5-4. That moved the Ducks to 2-1-1 this month and they are 5-6-3 overall. Anaheim has scored 29 goals while allowing 39. While not scoring a ton of goals, the coaching staff has to be happy about 13 goals scored in these last four games after scoring just 16 through the first 10.

John Gibson (2.48, .918) has still been outstanding, but he did give up for goals-against Vegas, the second time in the last three games he has given up four goals. The Ducks are led in scoring by Max Comtois with five goals in seven points.

With the victory on Tuesday, Vegas has won three straight games and they are now 4-0-1 in their last five. The Golden Knights are 8-1-1, tops in the West Division. They have scored 37 goals while allowing 26 and are 7-0-1 at home this season.

Vegas is led in scoring by Mark Stone with 15 points. Max Pacioretty leads the team in goals with six. The goaltending combination of Marc-Andre Fleury (1.80, .920) and Robin Lehner (2.96, .890) has been outstanding. Fleury is a perfect 5-0-0 this season.

NHL Pick – Vegas Golden Knights (-233)
Spread Pick – Vegas Golden Knights -1.5 (+111)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-120)

San Jose Sharks @ Los Angeles Kings – 10:00 PM ET

San Jose defeated Los Angeles in a shootout on Thursday, 4-3. That moved the Sharks to 5-5-1, two points ahead of Los Angeles in the standings. They have scored 32 goals while allowing 40.

Martin Jones stopped 24 of 27 shots in the victory. He may stay in goal for Thursday night’s game (3.70, .878), or the team may turn to Devan Dubnyk (2.71, .917). The Sharks are led by Logan Couture who is first in goals (6) and points (10).

With the loss, the Kings dropped to 3-6-3, last in the West Division. They have scored 34 goals while allowing 42. Calvin Petersen was in goal for Los Angeles, stopping 37 of 40 shots. He has clearly been the better of the two Los Angeles netminders (2.56, .925) and may keep the No. 1 goaltending spot.

Jonathan Quick (4.05, .867) has not looked very good this season. Anze Kopitar leads the team in assists (12) and points (15) Dustin Brown is second with 11 points. He leads the team in goals with six.

NHL Pick – San Jose Sharks (-115)
Spread Pick – Los Angeles Kings +1.5 (-280)
Total Goals Pick – Over 5.5 (-125)
