The Lightning and the Red Wings wrap up their 2 game set today in what is the only match on offer this Sunday, and after a nil all draw in yesterday’s match we are hoping for a little more today.
After a goalless regulation period the match went to overtime, neither team was able to find the decisive goal, sending the match to a shootout. The Red Wings were 0-3 from shootouts prior to the match, but they managed to get the job done in an incredibly tense shootout.
Both sides scored from their first two opportunities before missing their next 4 shots each.
As the 7th shooter, Tyler Johnson scored for the Lightning to put the pressure on the Red Wings, fortunately Valtteri Filppula was composed and put away his shot.
After Yanni Gourde missed for the Lightning it came down to Sam Gagner with a game winning shot which he put past Curtis McElhinney with the 16th shot of the shootout.

It was a huge win for the Red Wings who had only managed a measly 15 shots during the game, with Thomas Greiss to thank for the win, the goalie made 33 saves and 3 more in the shootout.
Today is the final head to head of the season between the two teams, the Lightning currently lead 4-3 with the bragging rights on the line, after their statistically dominant performance yesterday it is hard to see them losing twice in a row.
