Buffalo is looking to snap a four-game losing streak. They lost to Washington on Thursday, 3-1. The Sabres are 4-7-2 with a -9 goal differential. Linus Ullmark is expected to be in net.

He has started eight games with a 2.60 GAA and a .907 save percentage. Victor Olofsson and Jack Eichel are tied for the team lead in points with 12.


New Jersey won their third straight game, defeating Boston on Thursday, 3-2. The Devils are 6-3-2 giving them a .636 winning percentage, third best in the division. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 25 of 27 shots and Kyle Palmeiri had two goals in the victory over Boston.

Blackwood now has a 1.94 GAA and a .945 save percentage in five starts. Those are the first two goals of the season for Palmeiri who now has six points.

New York Rangers @ Washington Capitals – 12:30 PM ET

New York defeated Philadelphia in a shootout on Thursday, 3-2. That snapped a four-game losing streak. The Rangers are 5-7-3 with a -5 goal differential. Alexandar Georgiev stopped 20 of 22 shots to earn the victory.

He has started six games with a 2.95 GAA and a .893 save percentage. Artemi Parnarin added his team-leading 11th assist in the victory over the Flyers to give him team-leading 16 points.


Washington won their second straight game, defeating Buffalo 3-1. They beat Pittsburgh by the identical score on Tuesday. Washington is now 8-4-3.

Vitek Venacek stopped 22 of 23 shots in the victory; he has started 13 games with a 2.90 GAA and a .909 save percentage. Nicklas Backstrom scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the victory over Buffalo. He leads the team with 20 points.

Vegas Golden Knights @ Colorado Avalanche – 3:00 PM ET

Colorado defeated Vegas on Tuesday, 3-2. That drop of the Golden Knights to 10-3-1. They have a +12 goal differential. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 22 of 25 shots and William Karlsson had two assists in the loss.

Fleury has started nine games with a 1.56 GAA and a .937 save percentage. The two assists now give Karlsson 10 points. He is the sixth Vegas player to reach double digits in points.


Philipp Grubauer stopped 27 of 29 shots in the victory and Joonas Donskoi recorded two assists in the win. The Avalanche are 8-4-1 with a +14 goal differential, best in the division.

Grubauer has started 11 of the team’s 13 games with a 1.64 GAA and a .936 save percentage. The two assists give Donskoi 10 points, making him the fifth Avalanche player to reach double-digit points. Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal for his team-leading 15th point.

Florida Panthers  @ Detroit Red Wings – 5:00 PM ET

These teams play each other Friday night. This preview was written prior to the conclusion of that game. Florida defeated Carolina in overtime on Wednesday, 4-3. They are now 4-1-0 in their last five games.

The Panthers lead the Central Division at 10-2-2. Jonathan Huberdeau scored the game-winner in overtime, giving him two goals and an assist in the contest. He leads the team with 20 points. Sergei Bobrovksy has made seven starts and has a 3.33 GAA and a .84 save percentage.


Detroit had lost their first two games of the week, falling to Chicago in both of those games. Detroit was shot out on Wednesday, ruining an outstanding start by Jonathan Bernier who stopped 24 of 25 shots.

The Red Wings are in last in the Central Division at 4-11-3. They have a -21 goal differential, worst in the division. Thomas Greiss has a 2.90 GAA and a .899 save percentage.

Los Angeles Kings @ Arizona Coyotes – 7:00 PM ET

Los Angeles won their third straight game, beating Arizona in a shootout on Thursday, 3-2. The Kings are now 6-6-3 and are finally in the positive in goal differential (+1). Jonathan Quick had another outstanding outing, stopping 20 of 22 shots.

Quick lowered his goals-against average to 3.19 and now has a .889 save percentage in eight starts. Anze Kopitar added his team-leading 19th point in the victory.


Darcy Kuemper was solid in net himself, stopping 27 of 29 shots. The loss drops the Coyotes to 7-6-3, tied with Colorado for third place in the division.

Kuemper lowered his goals-against average to 2.22 and has a .920 save percentage in 13 starts. Conor Garland scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year and now leads Arizona with 15 points.

San Jose Sharks @ St. Louis Blues – 7:00 PM ET

St. Louis defeated San Jose in overtime on Thursday, 3-2. The Sharks are now 6-7-2 with a -14 goal differential, worst in the division. Martin Jones played exceptionally well in the game, stopping 42 of 45 shots.

Two power-play goals proved to be the difference in this game. Jones now has a 3.66 GAA and a .882 save percentage and 11 starts. Goal scoring has been a problem as the Sharks have just 40 and 15 games.


With the victory, the Blues are now 10-5-2. They have a +4 goal differential. Jordan Binnington was excellent in the victory, stopping 30 of 32 shots.

David Perron had three points in the game, including the game-winner in overtime. Perron extended his team lead in points to 18. Binnington has started 13 games and has a 2.34 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

New York Islanders @ Pittsburgh Penguins – 7:00 PM ET

Pittsburgh defeated New York on Thursday, 4-1. That snapped the Islanders consecutive point streak at eight games. The Islanders are now 8-5-3, tied for second in the division.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 of 36 shots. He now has a 1.99 GAA and a .930 save percentage and 12 starts. Mathew Barzal is the team leader in points with 15.


With the victory, Pittsburgh moves to 8-6-1. Tristan Jarry stopped 31 of 32 shots and Jason Zucker and Bryan Rust each had a goal and an assist. Jarry is starting to turn things around after a disappointing start.

He now has a 3.44 GAA and a .886 save percentage in 10 starts. Rust now leads the team with 15 points. He is tied for the team-leading goals with six and leads the team in assists with nine.

Nashville Predators  @ Columbus Blue Jackets  – 7:00 PM ET

Nashville was shut out by Columbus on Thursday, 3-0. Juuse Saros stopped only 19 of 21 shots in the loss. Nashville is now 6-10-0 with a -19 goal differential.

Saros has appeared in 10 games with a 3.47 GAA and a .882 save percentage. Filip Forsberg leads the team with seven goals and 14 points.


Elvis Merzlikins stopped all 32 shots he faced in recording his first shutout of the season. With the victory, Columbus moved to 8-6-4. They are now 5-2-2 at home. 

Merzlikins has a 2.51 GAA and a .920 save percentage in eight appearances this year. Cam Atkinson had a goal in the victory, giving him a team-leading seven tallies. He also leads the team in points with 14.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Montréal Canadiens – 7:00 PM ET

Toronto defeated Ottawa on Thursday, 7-3. That made the Maple Leafs 6-1-1 in February and they are 13-3-2 overall with a +19 goal differential, best in the division. Mitchell Marner had a goal and three assists and Auston Matthews had two goals and two assists.

Frederik Andersen will be between the pipes for this contest. He has started 15 games with a 2.67 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Marner now leads the team with 19 assists and 27 points. Matthews has 16 goals, tops in the NHL.


Montréal has not played since beating Toronto last Saturday, 2-1. They are 9-4-2, second in the North. They have a +13 goal differential.

Carey Price is playing very well of late for the Canadiens, posting a 2.64 GAA and a .901 save percentage nine starts. Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Petry lead the team with 15 points each.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Carolina Hurricanes – 7:00 PM ET

Tampa Bay was supposed to be playing Dallas on Saturday, but that game was postponed. Now the Lightning switch to Carolina. Tampa Bay lost two of  their last three games to Florida, including a 6-4 loss on Monday.

Andrei Vasilevskiy continues to be dominant between the pipes, posting a 1.92 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 12 starts. Brayden Point leads the team with 16 points. Tampa Bay is 10-3-1 overall. The Lightning have a +22 goal differential, best in the NHL.


Florida has been a nemesis for Carolina as well, defeating the Hurricanes in overtime on Wednesday, 4-3. Carolina will be playing Chicago Friday evening, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that game.

The Hurricanes are also 10-3-1 with a +13 goal differential. James Reimer continues to do a fine job filling in between the pipes. He has a 3.10 GAA .895 save percentage. Carolina is led in scoring by Jordan Staal with 15 points.

Minnesota Wild @ Anaheim Ducks – 9:00 PM ET

Minnesota defeated Anaheim on Thursday, 3-1. Kaapo Kahkonen did not have much work, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he faced. The Wild are now 7-6-0.

The .538 winning percentage is fourth in the division. Kahkonen now has a 2.65 GAA and a .905 save percentage and eight appearances. Jordan Greenway leads the team in points with 10.


John Gibson stopping 24 of 27 shots in the loss. The Ducks are now 6-8-3. Gibson has started 14 games and has a 2.38 GAA and a .919 save percentage.

Max Comtois still leads the team in points with nine and is the team leader in goals with seven. Anaheim has struggled to put the puck in the net all season long, scoring 33 goals in 17 games.

Calgary Flames @ Edmonton Oilers –10:00 PM ET

These teams play each other on Friday night, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that game. Calgary is coming off a 5-1 loss to Vancouver on Wednesday. The Flames are 8-7-1.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom is doing his part, posting a 2.61 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 14 starts. The offense is getting solid production out of Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm who each have 16 points.


Edmonton defeated Winnipeg on Wednesday, 3-2. They are 5-2-0 in their last seven games. The Oilers are 10-8-0 with a +3 goal differential.

They are only a .500 club at home, going 5-5-0. Mike Smith will likely be in that on Saturday. He has a 2.07 GAA and a .938 save percentage in four starts. Connor McDavid leads the team with 32 points.
