3:Toronto Maple Leafs

Stanley Cup Odds: +800
Record: 28-11-3

Auston Matthews has been as instrumental this week as he has all season, picking up 9 points over his last 4 games including a hat trick against the Senators, and extending his point streak to 5 games.

They had their 6 game win streak snapped by the Canadiens yesterday, losing 4-2, just their second loss from the last 10 games, the joint best return in the league.

5:Carolina Hurricanes

Stanley Cup Odds: +1100
Record: 27-10-4
Last Week’s Ranking: 2

The Hurricanes slip down to 5th from last week’s 2nd, they got their week off to a very good start with back to back wins against the 3rd place Panthers.

After which they continued their homestand with 2 games against the last place Red Wings. They lost the first match in a shootout, but very few expected them to come out and lose in the second game, the Red Wings prevailed in the second game though, winning 3-1.

They face 2 more home games against the Predators before commencing a 6 game road trip.

6:Washington Capitals

Stanley Cup Odds: +1400
Record: 27-11-4
Last Week’s Ranking:7

The Capitals also didn’t get off to the best start this week, registering a shutout loss to the Islanders on Tuesday, followed by a surprising loss to the Bruins on their home turf in Washington.

They rallied for their trip to Buffalo though, winning 4-3 to prevent a 3 loss streak, and backed it up with a huge 8-1 victory over the Bruins, with T.J Oshie, Lars Eller and Connor Sheary all burying 2 goals to exact some vengeance on the Boston side.

7:New York Islanders

Stanley Cup Odds: +1100
Record: 27-11-4
Last Week’s Ranking: 8

The Islanders earnt another jump up the ranks following a successful week which saw them win 3 of the 4 games they played. They started it off with a 1-0 win over the 1st place Capitals, it was the 6th shutout of the Islanders campaign so far, the joint most in the league.

They also narrowly got up over the Flyers in a shootout 3-2, after which they welcomed the Rangers for 2 games on their home soil, splitting the points 1 game each. It was the final match of a 6 game homestand for the Islanders, they have an impressive home record of 18-2-2, the best in the league.

8:Pittsburgh Penguins

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 27-13-2
Last Week’s Ranking: 10

The Penguins did incredibly well this week through a tough 4 game roadtrip which saw them play the likes of the Rangers, and the Devils over 2 legs.

After losing the first game to the Rangers in a painful 8-4, they went on to win the second game by a convincing 5-2. They then took to New Jersey to beat the Devils in back to back games, winning 6-4 and 5-2.

The Penguins will head back to Pittsburgh for a single game with the Flyers before travelling to Buffalo to play the Sabres, they are some pretty solid fixtures so it would not be surprising to see them make another move up the rankings.

9: Florida Panthers

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 26-12-4
Last Week’s Ranking: 4

The Panthers had to be moved back down the rankings after an unimpressive win which has seen them lose all 3 of the games they played for the week.

They started off with a 2 game series against the Hurricanes, losing the first 5-2 after leading all the way up until the final term. They came out in the next game and lost, this time around they were kept goalless for the 3rd time this season, losing 3-0.

After that they headed to Dallas for 2 games with the Stars, they got off to a terrible start with a 4-1 loss, just their 3rd goal in 3 games while allowing 12.

10: Winnipeg Jets

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 25-14-3
Last Week’s Ranking: 13

The Jets put up a disappointing performance against the Senators in Ottawa in their most recent game yesterday, losing 4-2, and ending their win streak in the process.

The Jets had won the previous 3 games for the week, picking up wins against the likes of the Senators at home, as well as 2 very impressive away wins to the Canadaiens, including a 5-0 shutout, their 4th of the season.

They have a chance at revenge against the Senators on Wednesday before gearing up for a very tough run of games which has them pitted to play against either the Oilers or Maple Leafs for the next 7 games straight.

11: Minnesota Wild

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 24-13-3
Last Week’s Ranking: 9

The Wild have to slip down the ranks after the average week they just had, they started it off with a tight defeat to the Avalanche, but redeemed themselves with a massive 8-3 win over them in the next game.

That momentum didn’t do too much for them though as they traveled to St. Louis for 2 games with the Blues, losing the first 9-1, their biggest defeat of the year. They came out in the next game and kept the margin much tighter, however, they ultimately lost in a shootout.

12: Edmonton Oilers

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 18-12-9
Last Week’s Ranking: 14

The Oilers did enough to jump up the rankings, picking up a clean sweep over 2 games over the Senators in Ottawa, winning 7-3 on aggregate.

They then played the Flames, who have not been at their best lately, and played like a shadow of the team they are capable of, losing 5-0 for their 4th shutout of the season

Their road trip continues against the Canucks on Friday after a one week break, perfect timing for the Oilers after their painful defeat to the Flames.

13: St Louis Blues

Stanley Cup Odds: +500
Record: 19-16-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 20

The Blues claim the 13th place with a well earnt jump up the rankings, and it seems they have finally put their losing ways behind them. They got their 5 match homestand off to the worst start possible when they lost 6-1 to the Golden Knights last week, and it looked like they would be in trouble with some tough fixtures ahead.

However, they went on to win 3 games straight, picking up a 3-1 win over the Knights, a shootout victory over the Wild, as well as a massive 9-1 win, also coming against the Minnesota team. They play 4 of their next 5 against the Avs at home, so they will be looking to keep that home ground momentum going against the divisions’ top team.

14: Montreal Canadiens

Stanley Cup Odds: +2000
Record: 18-12-9
Last Week’s Ranking: 11

The Canadiens are down from 11th last week after the very average week they had, starting off with a 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs, and backing it up the next day with another loss, this time at the hands of Jets 4-2.

They got another crack at the Jets and it was thought they would fare better with some more rest, but they came out and were shutout in a painful 5-0 loss. Not wanting to go 4 games without a win, the Canadiens put on a good performance against the Maple Leafs yesterday, winning 4-2.

15: Nashville Predators

Stanley Cup Odds: +6500
Record: 23-19-1
Last Week’s Ranking: 15

The Predators had another stellar week, continuing to surprise critics and fans alike with their efforts. They started the week off with a clean sweep away from home over the Red Wings, winning 10-3 on aggregate.

After which they took to Tampa to face the lightning, but despite their hot form they were kept goalless in a 3-0 loss. They bounced back straight away with a big win over the Stars on Sunday, with the game going to shootout to decide the winner, the win maintaining the Predators flawless shootout record (5-0).

They probably could have moved up the rankings this week, but with some tough fixtures coming up they remain here, another good week and they will definitely be moving up.

16: New York Rangers

Stanley Cup Odds: +7500
Record: 19-16-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 27

The Rangers went 2-2 from their 4 games last week, enough to earn them a move up to 16th place this week. They got off to a flying start with a huge 8-4 win over the Penguins, but couldn’t back it up in the next game, losing 5-2.

They then faced their cross town rivals, the New York Islanders, and once again won the opening game, but went on to lose in the second game, however, they did at least pick up a handy overtime point.

17. Chicago Blackhawks

Stanley Cup Odds: +6500
Record: 15-14-11
Last Week’s Ranking: 20

The Blackhawks now move back up the rankings after the Chicago side enjoyed a very solid week. They started the week off with a 2 game series against the Stars, sharing the points evenly as both teams won a game each.

After a loss to the Stars they hit the road for 2 games against the Blue Jackets, it wasn’t easy, but the Blackhawks walked away with back to back 4-3 wins, the latter of which came in a shootout.

Their road trip continues with 2 games against the last place Red Wings, every point is critical now as the Predators lead 2 points ahead, and the Stars continue to pressure from below.

18: Dallas Stars

Stanley Cup Odds: +6000
Record: 15-14-11
Last Week’s Ranking: 22

The Stars continued to impress this week, taking home 5 points from a possible 8 with wins against the Blackhawks and Panthers. They most recently faced the inform Predators in Nashville, losing the 5 game 3-2 via a shootout.

They have played 7 of their last 9 games away from home, and they will now play the next 5 straight games at home. While it doesn’t look too likely, if they can have a solid run from here until the end of the season then a playoff position is definitely not impossible.

19. Philadelphia Flyers

Stanley Cup Odds: +7500
Record: 19-16-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 19

The Flyers remain in 19th after another underwhelming week which saw them come away with just 1 win from 4 games. First up they played, and lost to, the Bruins, before travelling to New York to face the Islanders, coming as close as a shootout, but ultimately failing to get the win.

After a win against the Bruins the Flyers had to play the day after against a Sabres team who were rell wested, it didn’t go well for the Flyers as they lost 5-3. They now find themselves 4 points away from a playoff position with a tough run of games yet to play.

20: Boston Bruins

Stanley Cup Odds: +1600
Record: 21-12-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 12

The Bruins had an up and down week, they are currently sitting on 2 straight losses with some tough fixtures in the mix ahead.

They started their week off well with a win over Caps away from home, but followed it up with an away loss to the Flyers, and then an embarrassing 8-1 defeat during a rematch with the Caps, this time played in Boston.

It was surprising scoreline for the Bruins as they have been very strong defensively this season, with the second fewest goals conceded in the division (104).

21: Arizona Coyotes

Stanley Cup Odds: +5000
Record: 19-19-5
Last Week’s Ranking: 16

The Coyotes had to be moved back down the rankings, they failed to maintain that epic form that saw them win 6/7 games to earn their jump in rankings.

Instead losing 4 consecutive games to albeit very difficult opposition in the form of the Golden Knights and Avalanche. Their match today against the Wild is the final of their 9 game roadtrip, they are currently 3-5, and just 1 point from a playoff position.

22: Los Angeles Kings

Stanley Cup Odds: +10000
Record: 16-19-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 21

The Kings go down just 1 place to 22 after a decent week which saw them win 2 of their 4 games, the wins came from a game with the Coyotes which the Kings won 4-3 and came very close to choking.

The other win came on Saturday against the Sharks, with Dustin Brown and Jeff Carter guiding the L.A team to victory with a goal and assist each.

They went on to lose to the Knights 4-2 the next day, but they have done well in the second game of a series recently with 1 more game to play against the Vegas side.

23: San Jose Sharks

Stanley Cup Odds: +15000
Record: 18-19-4
Last Week’s Ranking: 21

The Sharks failed to back up their season best 4 win streak last week, losing all but 1 of the 4 games they played this week.

They lost one game against the Kings, and beat them in another, they also played the Ducks on home turf and were exposed over 2 games by the last place team, losing over the 2 games by an aggregate of 9-1, recording their 5th shutout of the season.

The Sharks will want to get back to winning ways with the playoffs looming, they have 1 more chance to get the better of the Ducks tomorrow.

24: Detroit Red Wings

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 15-23-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 28

The Red Wings get a strong move up the rankings this week, the result of one of their more impressive series’ of the season.

After losing to the Predators over 2 games, nobody gave the Red Wings much hope as they looked to 2 matches away against the Hurricanes, they surprised everyone as they scored a big 5-4 shootout victory over one of the strongest teams in the division.

Everyone gave them even less hope to go out and do it again but that is what they did, picking up the double over the Canes with a 3-1 victory on Sunday.

25: Columbus Blue Jackets

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 15-20-9
Last Week’s Ranking: 24

The Blue Jackets move down 1 from last weeks’ place on the rankings, and if it weren’t for a lack of performance from any club near the bottom, then they would have to be placed lower.

The Blue Jackets started the week off so well by scoring a big win against the Lightning, but couldn’t recapture that form in the next game as they lost 6-4. They followed it up with back to back losses against the Blackhawks on home soil, losing both games by a margin of 4-3.

26: Calgary Flames

Stanley Cup Odds: +15000
Record: 17-21-3
Last Week’s Ranking: 25

There isn’t much to say about the Flames as they have just returned from a 1 week break. Prior to their time off they were the worst performing team in the comp on form, but in the 1 game they have played since returning they got up over the Oilers in an impressive 5-0 performance. It is yet to be seen if that form will continue, if it does then expect a positive move next week.

27: Vancouver Canucks

Stanley Cup Odds: +15000
Record: 16-18-3
Last Week’s Ranking: 25

The Canucks are in the midst of a serious Covid outbreak which will see them out of action until at least the middle of April, and they have not played since the 24th of March. Therefore their ranking is only really affected by the teams around them, last we saw them though they were swept by the Jets over 2 games, 9-1 on aggregate.

28: Anaheim Ducks

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 13-23-7
Last Week’s Ranking: 31

The Ducks land a big move in the right direction after a successful week which saw them pick up two very convincing wins over the Sharks, winning 9-1 on aggregate and picking up their third shutout.

They also went up against the Avalanche, fighting a solid fight in the first game, losing 2-0, but not doing as well in the second match, a 4-1 loss.

The Ducks have 1 more game against the Sharks, they will be keen to make it 3/3 against them recently as they then face the Golden Knights for 3/4 games.

29: Buffalo Sabres

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 10-25-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 30

The Sabres took another step in the right direction this week, picking up a win over the Devils (5-3), and another 5-3 victory over the Flyers, enough to earn them a move up the ranks.

They also had a loss to the Devils in the mix, and another to the Capitals, however, they did well to keep the score so tight with such a strong team.

There is no hope for the Sabres to make the playoffs this year, but they can continue to improve week in week out, and that is what they seem to be doing.

30: New Jersey Devils

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 14-20-6
Last Week’s Ranking: 27

The Devils had to be moved down the ranks for the terrible week they have had, the New Jersey side registered a loss to the Sabres, as well as a clean sweep defeat to the Penguins over 2 games on home turf.

Their only win came against the Sabres away from home, given their terrible record at home this season it is hard to imagine this week getting off to a good start with a game against the Rangers, who the Devils are yet to beat at home this season.

31: Ottawa Senators

Stanley Cup Odds: +25000
Record: 14-25-4
Last Week’s Ranking: 31

The Senators hold down the bottom place this week, their week got off to a shocking start as they notched back to back defeats against the Oilers on home turf, bringing their head to record to 9-0, the most one sided of any in the league.

They then headed to Toronto for a single game against the Maple Leafs, and whilst they played very well, they were eventually beaten 6-5. Nobody had much hope for their game against the Jets on Sunday, but the Senators showed up at their home ground with a 4-2 victory.

They still sit in bottom place on the North table with an almost impressive, -45 goal difference, the second worst in the league with 2 extra games played on the 1st place Sabres.
