Super Bowl LVI: Overview of Main Betting Markets

Super Bowl LVI: Overview of Main Betting Markets
Sat 12th February 2022

It’s that time of year again, Super bowl week!! Everybody is gearing up for the big game in Los Angeles on Sunday, and with the growing popularity of sports betting, there will be plenty of people, placing their first wagers ever for this one. It is expected that a record number will be placed in Super Bowl 56, so we have your guide to everything you need to know before placing your wagers.

Who is favored to win Super Bowl 56?

The Los Angeles Rams are favored, as they opened up as 3.5 point favorites after the Conference Championship games. However, that line quickly moved up to 4.5 the Monday after the Conference Championship games where it sat until later in the week.

As of Saturday morning, the line is at 4 and here’s what that means: if you bet the Rams spread at -4, the Rams will have to win by 5 to win your bet. If you bet the Cincinnati Bengals spread at +4, the Bengals have to lose by 3 or less or win the game outright for you to win your bet. If the game ends in a 4 point win for the Rams then it’s a push and all funds will be refunded.

What is the Super Bowl over/under?

The total for the game or over/under is set at 48.5 as of Saturday morning. This one is pretty simple, it just means that if you bet the over you will need the point total of the game to reach at least 49 (28-21, 35-14, etc.). If you take the under, then you need the point total to stay under that 48.5 point mark (24-10, 48-0, etc.). it’s a popular bet for neutrals who don’t really care who wins the game and just want to have something to root for.

What is the Super Bowl moneyline?

The moneyline is different then the point spread, as you are just simply picking who will win the game. It doesn’t matter if they win by 50 or 1, if they win, you win your bet. For this game, the Rams moneyline sits with a price of -198 meaning you would have to bet $198 on the Rams moneyline to win $100. The Bengals moneyline price sits at +166, meaning a $100 wager will win you $166.

What is a Super Bowl  prop bet?

Prop bets are also wildly popular during the Super Bowl and every season. You can bet on everything from Joe Mixon’s rushing yards to the over/under on the amount of time the National Anthem will take. It’s just like the game over/under, meaning if you bet the over on Mixon’s rushing yards, then he will need to exceed that yardage for you to win your bet.

The two most popular bets this year are a bet on who will score the first touchdown and who will win Super Bowl MVP. Rams wideout Odell Beckham Jr. has received the most bets to score the first touchdown at +1000 odds.

The most popular bet to win the Super Bowl MVP is Rams deceive tackle Aaron Donald, who’s odds shifted from +1600 to +1200 due to all the money coming in on him. The favorites for Super Bowl MVP are the two quarterbacks. Ram’s Matthew Stafford is +140 and Bengals Joe Burrow is +225.

Like I said, there are thousands of different ways to bet and get some action in the Super Bowl and you should take full advantage. The American Gaming Association said earlier this week, an record-setting $7.6 billion is expected to be wagered on this years Super Bowl, up 78% from last year.

It is most important to have fun and wager responsibly and remember there is no such thing as a sure bet. This is gambling, so you have to know the risk you run but it’s definitely a fun activity that can bring us all together and I hope this article was a good beginner’s guide for you to confidently get in on the action!
