There’s no great revelation in this article. No controversial assertions or wild takes. Probably nothing you haven’t heard before.
Just one, simple, incontrovertible fact. An undeniable truth. The polar opposite of fake news.
Christian Jackson McCaffrey – Carolina Panthers RB / WR / kick returner / Mr Do-It-All – is currently the best player in the National Football League.
It’s not really even that close.
This kind of all-round offensive dominance – through the air and on the ground – is not really something we’ve seen in recent years. The last RB to win the league’s MVP award since Adrian Peterson’s 2,000-yard rushing season in 2012.
McCaffrey is currently second in the league for rushing yards per game (105.0), and equal second in rushing touchdowns (8).
Currently averaging 154 yards of total offense per game, McCaffrey is easily the most productive RB in the league. He’s just the 14th player since the year 2000 to have over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in the first seven games of a season.
Hilariously, McCaffrey is more productive in terms of total offensive yards than QBs Ryan Tannehill and Ryan Fitzpatrick, and only marginally behind Mason Rudolph (160) and Mitch Trubisky (172.8).
McCaffrey has had a string of outrageous performances this season; his 188 yards from scrimmage against the Cardinals in Week 3 and 237 against the Jaguars in Week 5 the two standouts of many.
After racking up 117 yards on the ground with one TD and 38 through the air in Carolina’s 38-point loss to the 49ers on Sunday, the third-year RB is now ranked 10th in Panthers history in career receiving yards (1,861).
Despite an overall poor game by the Panthers today in San Francisco, McCaffrey was still quite clearly the best player on the field. Whatever the game situation, there was invariably the feeling that he would be able to make something happen.
With his nearest competitor in the race for MVP – Russell Wilson – finishing with just 186 total yards of offense and two TDs against the lowly Falcons, one thing has become abundantly clear.
Christian McCaffrey is the best player in all of football. Period.
