Are the Jacksonville Jaguars Worth Your Super Bowl Bets?
Thu 17th December 2020

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the middle of a challenging position. The Jaguars are the second-worst team in the NFL, there’s no idea what the team wants to do at quarterback, and whether coach Doug Marrone will stay in 2021 remains unclear.

There’s also the ongoing concern about the team’s status in Duval County and whether they could relocate someday, as team owner Shahid Khan is trying to have the Jaguars play even more games in London.

The Jaguars are nearing the end of their first season in years where they didn’t have any games in London, although travel restrictions kept them from being able to travel to Wembley Stadium. The Jaguars had extra time in Duval County for a change, but a change in scenery hasn’t done much, as they are 1-12. The team has a strong chance of getting the second-overall pick in the 2021 draft.

The Jaguars are not a team to pick for Super Bowl bets any time soon. Here are some reasons for this point.

Coaching Problems

Doug Marrone is on the hot seat as the Jaguars’ coach. He has been the official coach since 2017. He led the team to an AFC South title in 2017, but the team has fallen apart since then. His 22-28 record over these years isn’t promising, especially considering the dramatic drop-off from their run to the AFC Championship game in his first year. He may get fired after this season.

Quarterback Questions

The Jaguars have the second-worst offense in the NFL, as they score about eighteen points a game on average. There have been significant questions as to whether Gardner Minshew will be the starting quarterback in 2021. Minshew was benched for Jake Luton and Mike Glennon earlier this year, but Minshew has since got his starting position back.

There’s a real chance Minshew will end up being a one-season wonder. The Jaguars may consider drafting Ohio State’s Justin Fields as their new quarterback with the second-overall pick, or Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence if the New York Jets go in a different direction.

Whoever the Jaguars’ coach will be next season will have some young talented wide receivers to work with, including D.J. Chark and Laviska Shenault. But there are too many variables to consider at this point.

How the Ground Game Looks

James Robinson has a thousand rushing yards after thirteen games. He appears to be the most appealing running back option for the future. He may need to carry much of the team’s offense next season, especially when dealing with the team’s poor quarterbacking situation.

A Weak Defense

The Jaguars also have one of the worst defenses in the league, as they give up about thirty points a game on average. The team has given up at least thirty points seven times this year, including bottom-feeding teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions.

Should You Bet on the Jaguars?

It may take a while for the Jacksonville Jaguars to be worthwhile for Super Bowl bets. The team’s poor performance is a problem, and there’s no telling what they will be doing in 2021.

The Jaguars have a long way to go before they can become competitive once again. There’s also no telling what continent they will play most of their games on when they eventually become competitive.
