Phoenix Suns @ Milwaukee Bucks (Game 6) – 9pm EDT

A road team has finally won and now the Milwaukee Bucks return home with a 3-2 lead and an opportunity to win the 2021 NBA Championship tonight. It wasn’t always easy for Milwaukee in game five as the Phoenix Suns took a 16 point lead after the first quarter and looked dominant throughout. However, it was all Bucks from there.

A 43-24 second quarter helped Milwaukee to swiftly remove that lead and take over control by halftime, leading by three at the main break. From that point, Phoenix never saw the lead again and the Bucks now lead in the series for the first time.

The 123-119 win saw Milwaukee’s Big Three dominate on both ends of the floor, playing their best game as a trio for the entire season, when it mattered most. All three scored at least 27 points whilst shooting 50%+ from the field and combining for just six turnovers. It was a masterpiece by the three of them and it is the reason they have a chance to win it all tonight.

After scoring 40 points in game four, many thought that Khris Middleton would have a dip in production, like he usually does. However he was still hitting shots from all over the field, putting up 29 points on 52.2% shooting, along with seven boards and five assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo, despite seeming to be battling fatigue, was his usual dominant self inside, scoring a team-high 32 points while shooting 60.9% from the field, along with nine rebounds and six assists.

However, the game-ball could only go to one man. Jrue Holiday has been incredible in the Finals and Game Five might have been one of the best performances of his career. He has been unmatched on the defensive end, showing toughness and smarts like no other, while being the best playmaker in the series. His 27 point, 13 assist and three steal night doesn’t fully explain how valuable he has been, now leading the series in assists (one ahead of Paul) and steals.

While he has been an incredible defensive stopper, both Devin Booker and Chris Paul had plenty of opportunities to get theirs on Saturday. Like Antetokounmpo did earlier in the series, Booker scored 40+ points for the second straight game, highlighting his incredible ability to score at will. Shooting 51.5% from the field and 50% from behind the arc, Booker finished with 40 for the game.

After managing just 10 points in Game Four, Paul turned things around offensively, shooting 60% from the field and 3-3 from deep for his 21 points, adding 11 assists compared to just one turnover. With Paul getting back to the point god that he is, it allowed the rest of the team to thrive, with all three other starters reaching double figure points, led by Deandre Ayton’s 20 point, 10 rebound and two block performance. Phoenix needs Ayton to be productive at both ends of the floor to have any chance of winning tonight but he needs Paul to be the playmaker he has been for his entire career, which he was again on Saturday.

Looking ahead to tonight’s game, it is hard not to be backing Milwaukee. Yes, Phoenix have their backs against the wall and only one life left, so they will come out swinging for the fences. However, Game Five was almost a perfect game by the Suns and they still lost by four, at home. Shooting 55.2% from the field, 13-19 (68.4%) from deep and only having eight turnovers at a team would get you a win 99/100.

Monty Williams will have to make some massive adjustments, particularly on the defensive end, if Phoenix are to pull the rabbit out of the hat and extend this series tonight. Can they slow down Giannis and the Bucks, especially when they are limiting their own turnovers and misses, which are prime fastbreak opportunities? We don’t think so. Milwaukee have an opportunity to win an NBA Finals on their home floor, with their own fans cheering them on and they seem hungrier than Phoenix at this stage of the series.
