The Utah Jazz (4-2, 2-0 Home) will try to slow down one of the NBA’s top scoring teams when they host the Memphis Grizzlies (4-1, 2-1 Away) on Saturday. Memphis defeated the Sacramento Kings 125-110 at Golden 1 Center on Thursday. Desmond Bane was the standout player with 31 points and six rebounds.
The Grizzlies are zero games behind the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference, currently sitting in second. Utah is playing the second of a back-to-back after losing yesterday at Ball Arena, falling to the Denver Nuggets 117-101.
Lauri Markkanen recorded 17 points to top the scoresheet in the loss. With 14 points, Mike Conley also played a part. The Jazz are level with the Portland Trail Blazers atop the Western Conference, currently sitting in first.
The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Memphis won two out of three games between the teams last season, though Utah won 121-115 in overtime in the last meeting at Vivint Arena on April 5. Rudy Gobert led the Jazz with 22 points and 21 rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 28 points in defeat.
Ja Morant is averaging 32.6 points per game, fourth-highest in the league, to lead the Grizzlies in scoring early this season. Morant also has dished 6.8 assists per game. Meanwhile, Steven Adams is grabbing 10.2 rebounds. Markkanen has supplied much of the Jazz’s offense, averaging 21.2 points per game.
Jarred Vanderbilt is posting 9.3 rebounds per game, and Conley is doling out 7.3 assists. The Grizzlies rank as one of the most explosive offenses in the NBA, third-best with 119.8 points per game.The Jazz have had the advantage in the Grizzlies’ last 10 trips to Vivint Arena, winning six.
Utah is looking to remain undefeated at home this season in two games. Meanwhile, the Jazz lost the only prior game this season when playing two days in a row, which also saw them playing against a rested opponent.
