The San Antonio Spurs (18-51, 12-24 Home) will try to break down one of the NBA’s top scoring defenses when they play host to the Memphis Grizzlies (41-27, 13-22 Away) on Friday.
Memphis was blown out by the Miami Heat 138-119 at FTX Arena on Wednesday. Jaren Jackson Jr. was the standout player in the losing effort with 25 points and nine rebounds.
The Grizzlies are second in the Western Conference. San Antonio came up short on Wednesday at AT&T Center, falling to the Dallas Mavericks 137-128 in overtime. Keldon Johnson topped the scoresheet in the loss with 27 points.
With 17 points, Romeo Langford also produced a strong performance. The Spurs are 14th in the Western Conference. The teams are meeting for the last time this season.
After taking all three of the earlier season meetings against San Antonio, the most recent of which was a 135-129 victory at FedExForum on January 11, their 10th straight head-to-head victory, Memphis will be pursuing a season sweep.
Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with 38 points. Johnson had 24 points in the losing effort. The Grizzlies have been led this season by Morant, who is averaging 27.1 points per game, eighth-highest in the NBA. Morant also has dished 8.2 assists per game, sixth-most in the NBA. Meanwhile, Jackson Jr. is grabbing 6.6 rebounds.
Johnson has powered the Spurs on offense, averaging 21.7 points per game. Zach Collins is posting 6.2 rebounds per game, and Tre Jones is recording 6.2 assists.
The Grizzlies rank as one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the NBA, fifth-best with 111.9 points per game allowed. The Grizzlies are 7-3 in the last 10 trips to AT&T Center.
